Cavalry Stable-avalonia task 4-helenia
Jacob Nion replied to mlongworth's topic in Guilds of Historica
Helenia seems to become one of Avalonia's strongest militaries. Again solid work! -
Excellent! The scene is very self explaining and that's always a great point. Really have to get some of those elves sets. You used those parts perfectly.

Love your building style! So many great things I have missed over the last months...

Neat scene, friend. And your writing skills always make your work more enjoyable.

stone quarry-Avalonia task 4- Helenia
Jacob Nion replied to mlongworth's topic in Guilds of Historica
Good job. I always love to see more of Historica's economy. And Avalonia in special needs a lot of stone for its castles. -
Infantry Barracks- Avalonia task 4- Helenia
Jacob Nion replied to mlongworth's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice start. The vegetation fits Avalonian landscape well. You could increase the strengh of your builds by using a plain white background. -
Beautiful! The colour choice, the figure, the lantern all together create a strong atmosphere that really hits my taste of fantasy. Would love to see more of this culture.

Log Entry, Captain Benjamin Morgan, Isla Del Diablo Bit by bit the dense jungle reveals more grisly secrets. My men were exploring the edge of the pristine boondocks, where the slander palm trees slowly begin to make way for larger exotic trees, when they discovered an ancient weathered shrine. With faces pale and a cold shiver running down their spine they stared at two strangely deformed heads, parched but not rotten, with their lids and mouths sewn up. The most curious aspect of these is their size; they are shrunken to miniatures. Did they belong to an unknown race of dwarves? Or was it black magic, lurking in the deep of this diabolic forest? And the most important yet most fearsome question: Who was it that did this godless atrocity to those poor souls? I see myself forced to lead an expedition into the unholy heart of this mystery one day. Something menacing is lurking in the shadows of Isla Del Diablo... ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I'm going to license this as small cultural property. I found it far better fitting for a cutthroat pirate island than some kind of high cultural building in a pirate town. Also I finally wanted to do the name of this jungle justice Thanks for looking!

[ESL-FB1] Please don't take it apart
Jacob Nion replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Wonderful fortress with a strong classic feel! Love the similarities to the old Eldorado fortress. But there are also a few neat updates. Especially that large window on the inside. Great work!- 21 replies

[ESL-FB] Stone Quarry (99 pieces)
Jacob Nion replied to Elostirion's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
99 pieces indeed give this a classic look. I'm always surprised when seeing the low piece counts of old pirate/castle sets that felt so big in my childhood. I'm no fan of BURPs, but in this build they really fit well with all this nostalgia going on. -
Very good build! It's very clean looking, and the green window frames are a well fitting feature. I also really like the angle of the photography in the second pic. That's well arranged. But I myself would have preferred a decent frame to cover the diversity of colours on the sides. Or is the red supposed to be soil?

Impressive ship! The colour scheme works great and it truly deserves class 4A. My small nitpicks would be that the curved lines of the hull are not reflected in the shape of the weather deck. Maybe it would look more harmonic if the deck amidships was laying a bit deeper than the fore- and aft castle.

[Cor vs Car] A Matter Of The Heart
Jacob Nion replied to Jacob Nion's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thank you all very much. As I always mention, I find it hard to find the right humour in such entries. But this one was just flowing when writing. Big thanks to KaiNRG, who proved with her entry for the last build off that trials don't have to be all serious and boring. That really opened my mind for ridiculous court scenes. Thank you. After reading it again I was satisfied that I myself found it funny. Probably my favourite moment too. Thanks! It was fun building in this team. Thank you very much. For a one day build I'm pleased by how it turned out. Thank you all very much, mates. -
Wonderful colourscheme! For me, this is also a favourite from you. Especially the windows are wonderful.

[ESL-FB1] The Old Stone Church
Jacob Nion replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Hahaha! Great pun with Eslandolans worshipping goods instead of gods! Sounds like a reasonable religion for Eslandola. But really, I think in a fantasy setting like BoBS there can be something like a "church of Zeus". On one hand I like the use of the greek/roman pantheon as main religion for the rpg. It's something everyone can deal with without being offended. On the other hand churches, monasteries, cathedrals fit the culture of our nations by far better than temples. So why not worshipping Poseidon in a church? That's just a matter of architectural desires. But I think for continuity there should be Zeus' flash or Poseidon's trident on top of the bell tower instead of the cross, which just makes no sense in the lore of Halos. But now a few words about the build: I really like the texture of the walls. Another great example that a stone wall can look realistic without being overly greebled. Especially the colour scheme is great and keeps the structure from being monotone. Also cheers for the inclusion of an interior. -
I'm pretty sure you'll have to build a small at first, license it, then build the medium, unlicense the small again in order to license the medium. But they have to be separate mocs. Just like it is done with forts.

Winners Annouced! Corrington vs. Carno Build-off

I'm sure. But I find it necessary sometimes to sound a bit like a pirate. -
Winners Annouced! Corrington vs. Carno Build-off
Jacob Nion replied to Kai NRG's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This victory was hard earned. I cannot complain about losing against such strong entries. Congratulations! Now give me those bloody 10 Doubloons. -
Don't waste your time waiting for that old tabloid paper. Read the Sea Rat Investigator instead! It says that all Eslandolan ships were captured by Sea Rats, Oleander convoys are completely lost in hurricanes and every Corlandish crew comitted mutiny. Also every Sea Rat trader made a golden voyage. Sounds trustworthy in my opinion. So no more questions about the results please. Everyone back to building!
