Guilds of Historica New Member Guide
Jacob Nion replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Ahoy there youngling. "Castle building" is of vourse not limited to building actual castles; it depends on your personal story. You have all liberties (mostly) what you want to do. Create a character, give him a background and begin your adventure! And then decide what you would like to build to tell us your story. If Kaliphlin matches your personal taste, go for it! As Exetrius said there are plenty opportunities to try out building in the dtyle of other guilds, but your home guild should be the one you can identify the most with. -

The Resistance Unites [Book II, Chapter V: Prelude, Part V]
Jacob Nion replied to MassEditor's topic in Guilds of Historica
I do! I've read something about it on the internet! Right here! Great prelude, ME! I'm glad you took the burden from all of us semi active lazy lords to get our minifigures' butts finally to Shadowmere (without having us hanging around there). From that point I can hopefully continue my personal story.- 14 replies

Sea Rats: Sign-up and Discussion
Jacob Nion replied to Darkdragon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Attention on deck! Me, captain Benjamin Morgan, intend to alienate my class 4A vessel Lagarto (which was absolute legally purchased) for the non-negotiable price of 270 Doubloons (10% off the regular price for that class) . The ship has not yet been built, I repeat: it is un-moced. If interested, please contact me as soon as possible. This is no matter of nationality. I sell to everyone. Yours, B. Morgan -

You make me sad. That sounds as if you do not trust in the honesty of simple privateers. I cannot imagine anyone would have planned to accept a letter of marque by Eslandola, then set sail for a predator run and in the case the unlucky victim was a Mardieran claim the reward. One must be truly a mean and devious character to be up to such scheming. :)

Arrr me lad I want to show everyone what he's dealing with when my black sails glance at the horizon. But the thing is, I am a builder; I have the natural desire to have my builds indexed. I want them to be recognized and I also want to browse other users builds. Indexes are also an important feature for newbies who search for inspiration/information. Since this is the pirates forum, the aspect with the most prestige in this game should be our ships, no houses or plantations. what about something similar to the settlement index? We call it the fleet index. Everyone willing makes a post where he lists and updates his personal fleet. Companies could have a post of its own. Everyone would be responsible to write down his losses, prizes and new built ships on his own.

I am sure this has been asked several times in the months I was lost on the sea, but will the ship index be updated some time in the future? I know it'shard to keep track not only of all the newly built vessels but also of the permanently changing ownership. A solution could be that each faction keeps track of it's members fleets and send an updated list to maxim (or whoever is responsible at the moment).

I'm afraid I lost track of all the things happening here. But I'm glad I still have bank account. Hehe. Just one thing: There is stated an upkeep for troops of 12 DB. As far as I remember I raised 2 platoons, so it seems there's the -30% Sea Rat discount missing. Or was that cancelled?

Nocturnus Minichallenge I: Foreign Aid
Jacob Nion replied to MassEditor's topic in Guilds of Historica
There it is, just in time: For the Black Spire The Great Devourer -
The Black Spire calls for reinforcements. The gears of war are finally put in motion and the terrible, most devastating fate of the Darklands takes its course. While the armies of Historica march to Nocturnus, a single colossus comes down the northern Rakath at the border to Mitgardia; the giant seeks neither glory nor riches, the pure lust for destruction and chaos makes him leaving his home in the mountains and entering the vale. Where he plagues the land, he erases villages. He devours the cattle and leaves nothing but desolation and death.

If by "mature" you mean special houses where you can pay for conviviality and having one or two hours of joy, there are already several establishments in Historica.

Most building techniques you will learn from other builders. That's a key element of GoH. And wirh a bit experience you will come up with your own techniques and style. The more important question is what you want to build and how to depict it. Then you start research about that subject, look after builds from others and real life material or artwork, often films are a good source too. That way you will learn far more. -

Good point! Indeed you van change your guild only at the start of a new book. But that means not you should choose without thinking enough about it. Books last for years. Anyway, you don't have to concentrate on the main story line all the the time. It's good to know the lore and keep up with the current events, but you also can concentrate on developing you character, story and locations. -

Nocturnus Minichallenge II: Temple of Blood
Jacob Nion replied to Captain Flint's topic in Guilds of Historica
Technically, Vlad is a half vampire, so... It's always difficult to claim such superlative titles (well, except for me, I'm the only rat around and therefore the meanest and greatest rat). If it's such a thing for you, you could call him "greatest vampire of the Black Spire", or of a certain realm/tribe/region. But otherwise I like the idea that there are several aspirants of that title, who think of themselves as the mightiest of their kind. Otherwise there would be no conflict. And stories without conflicts are boring. Now onto your build! Your wall design hits my personal taste, so I can say I have no critique about that. Blufiji pointed out what I can only repeat, you bring back that old spirit of Nocturnus we were missing for a while now. Not that I wouldn't enjoy the new diversity of the Darklands, I myself do my part for that. But it's important not to lose that demonic, undead charisma that Nocturnus was intended to be. And I like the use of trans red tiles. Best choice for blood imho. -

You can build one entry for each category. But you don't have to participate in every category. -
Nocturnus Minichallenge I: Foreign Aid

So I guess if most people still want to support the redistance (which is a good thing) building for the spire increases the chances to win (which is an excellent thing). -
This is the most amazing part of your collab. And probably one of the best things you both have ever done. I always felt there could be more dwarven enclaves be depicted in Mitgardia. Now this is all I ever desired for my live for dwarves. To be honest, I am not a big fan of that rockwork. But screw that, you created a whole mountain with it! That alone is impressive. And it features a full interior, with everything a dwarvish mountain needs. Mines, great halls, golden treasures, a forge... and that landing area for dragons is a nice touch. I didn't know that there are dwarves brave enough to go on a flight, but it fits in nicely. Superb work all around. And I really like the fact that Nordheim is inhabited by both dwarves and men, each people in a fitting area.

Ridiculous story! You definitely have a sense for what being a member of Nocturnus is all about. The tavern itself is well done. The only thing you might could improve is to build a dark coloured wall behind the visible wall to hinder the light from shining through the gaps. But that's just something about photographing.

The retaking of Eolas: The last straw
Jacob Nion replied to The Maestro's topic in Guilds of Historica
I find the burnt effect well executed. Maybe you could have added some smoke, built from 2x2 round plates, or using ice cream pieces and that ninjago snake piece in white. But for the building itself it's well done. Perhaps the roof could be a bit more burnt. I don't know how realistic it is that the fire stopped at one point. -
Hey! There are still a few other guys around in this guild. At first, Ilove the fact that you created a people that actually lives under the surface. I find the underrealm must be an important area of Nocturnus, simply for the fact that it houses all of the Drow, Dark Elves, worms and all kinds of sun hating tribes. And the size of the guild territory is a bit compact compared to the other guilds, at least on the surface. So the must be a lot going on in the deep. That ruin is definitely standing out. And the overall colour scheme is excellent. I can really imagine this being a part of a cave.

Excellent work as always! The irony is, while you feel exhausted from building for the Darklands, I as observer am under the impression that you've done only Kaliphlin builds since the great war in the south. But I am not tired of looking at these. I really enjoy the small details. Like how smooth the door frame looks with those cheese slopes at the corners. And how natural the olive green leaves feel in front of the tan building. But now please, allow us a glance at your Nocty builds! I get more and more excited to see you return to the East.
