  1. Well, someone needs to take a stand. That's why, as much as I like this set, I'm boycotting it in protest. I invite you all to join me. We want good-quality minifigures!
  2. Actually, the rooftop area is one of my favourite things about this Modular. I really hate how plain the roofs of most Modulars are - after all, we're not minifigures, we look down on these buildings. And I get so sick of the plain roofs that I decorate them with billboards and A/C units and the occasional helipad. So I really like that this Modular actually has something on top, and I hope this becomes an ongoing trend. To each their own, I suppose.
  3. The new part was created for another set. Or, at least, it's been used in one. I saw the scans for Lego Minecraft's The Pirate Ship for next year, and concluded that the mast of the ship was being held on by two of these new pieces. There might be others in the Ship, I can't say yet but it does strike me as a part that would be very useful in Minecraft builds. Now; {yawns} The problem with living in Australia is that sets often get announced while you're asleep. But still, I think this is an excellent set. I really like the diagonal facade, the dark orange and sand blue is a lovely colour combination, and can live with the interior not being tiled over. Garages usually aren't too clean on the inside, and I'd like to think that this decision was a commentary on the designer's part about that feature. I also see they're following through with the Detective's Office style 'build an extra floor to make this taller' design. Can't say I disapprove. And I definitely like the callout to Indiana Jones. Now if only the profession was a little more relevant to him . . XD I wonder if this implies that we might be getting a museum as the 2020 Modular? Eh, either way. Y'now, I think makes me very sad that the Detective's Office seems to be going to retire just as this comes out. I think the best possible way to display this would be to have the Downtown Diner on the left of the Detective's Office and the Corner Garage on the right, and these three 'American' Modulars forming a separate block to all the other, more European Modular Buildings. Overall, I like this, and I'll get it - but not immediately. Gotta wait for a good discount.
  4. I don't see a dragon there. I'm looking at the prominent fangs and thinking Great Devourer. Also, is there a limit to the colours that can be put on stickers? The Preeminent should really be green, not red.
  5. Still keeping my fingers crossed for a Modular Library!
  6. I don't get why everyone complains so much about 6-wide cars. The roads that Lego currently make are 10-wide on both sides. Therefore, I'm comfortable with anything up to 8- or 9-wide on my roads. I'll even make exceptions in special cases for full 10-wide vehicles. 6 is fine. Even if it would be nice if Lego could make more cars that seat multiple minifigs. Hint, hint, designers?
  7. Essentially; since I don't have the Ninjago City, just the Ninjago City Docks, I think that the best way to integrate this set into my city as a complete thing is to take the left-most third of it - Mystake's tea shop, the mapmaker's and the cove with the boat - and put it on the other side of the rest of the buildings. That way, the tea shop and the arcade will be adjacent to each other, and the sections of upper walkway attached to each will like up and create a complete balcony that does not abruptly end. Unfortunately, the tea shop, when attached to the stairs, is a 14-stud-wide build. And the only way to split the Docks is into one 32x32 - the arcade, market, and actual dock - and one 16x32. My city plan, however, does call for the 32x32 Docks module to be in the very corner, so if I split the build into a 14-wide and a 34-wide, it would be simple enough to just have two studs hanging over the edge. Alternatively, I could rotate the entire central building 90 degrees and create a single walkway leading between the market and the arcade. However that would also hang out 2 studs either onto the waterway behind the main dock, or on the baseplate behind it. There is room, there won't be another structure occupying that area. In both cases, I will engineer a different building to replace the apartment on the top, and install a trapdoor/ladder so that it can be accessed from inside the market building, and then use the apartment as an entirely separate structure in a nearby area of my layout. I'm not sure what the best result would be, so please advise?
  8. The one redeeming factor here is the new part; a curved Elves-style vine fence. It's gourgeous. Just a year too late . . . #legoleaks on instagram.
  9. Sets are cute, albeit disappointing. It looks like they're keeping up the Build'n'Swap system going into 2019, but only for some sets. I'm seeing the hallmarks of the system in 41160. 41161 and 41162. That's interesting . . or maybe they're ditching it and it's just a coincidence that those three look to be compatible. After all, the rest aren't. Damnit, though; I was really hoping for something that looked genuinely Arabian for the Aladdin/Jasmine set. That looks like an Arabian beach house, and one that's not up to code to boot. At least we have the flying carpet . .
  10. Holy cow, that Ultra Dragon! The four heads thing was always a bit off-putting, but I gotta say, that thing is gorgeous! My budget's already gonna be pretty cramped next year with Overwatch and TLM2, but I definitely want that beautiful beastie.
  11. Speaking as someone who was in a Dark Age when the first Lego Movie rolled around and actually does not have a Benny minifigure . . I want Benny! I also want the other Classic Spacemen, just because of how big a part of Lego's history they are. Here's hoping they do proper Red, Black and Blue Classic Spacemen in the near future. (Red especially, I can live without the 'spy' Classic Spaceman, but we need at least one pilot. Oh, hey, everyone? Speaking of the 'jobs' of Classic Spacemen; if Red ones are pilots, Black ones are spies, Blue ones are soldiers, Yellow ones are scientists, White ones are explorers and Green ones are mech pilots, what role do you think Pink Classic Spacemen have? (This also applies to the semi-official Grey Classic Spaceman they did in that CMF Rocket Boy a while back, but less so.)
  12. I think the real standouts from this wave are the farm-themed sets, which will be an excellent source of parts for MOCs, Mia's house (though, to be honest, now that I get a closer look at it I don't like it as much. The purple is really garish and contrasts badly with the dark flesh.), and Emma's Art Studio. The Art Studio in particular is a must-buy; it's a two-storey building that's only twelve studs wide, but it still looks nice enough that I'd happily put it in my village with no modification required. And the graffiti on the side is gorgeous.
  13. Wow. Yeah, most of this is standard fare City stuff. Not particularly interesting; Creator is better. I do like that Kayak Adventures set, though. And I'll admit that the Sky Police Drone Chase is . . iffy, but that golden statue is lovely and would be an excellent upgrade to the statue in the Winter Village Fire Station. I'll probably get it just for that.
  14. Can I just say, I love the fact that the 'attack mode' of Sensei Wu's spinner has him armed with teapots. That's so hilarious! Much better than the swords and shurikens.
  15. Good minifigure set? What do you call Introducing Queen Whatevra Wa'Nabi? (Also, it's Whatever I wanna be, not 'you'.) And I think that this wave is similar to the Lego Batman Movie's first wave, with them saving the really big sets for the second and third waves. But Lego has also learned from its mistake with the Ninjago Movie of making too many big sets and not enough small ones - seriously, in the end I only had enough budget for six Ninjago Movie sets, and two of those were the tiny Training and Ninjago City Chase sets - and is instead going to the opposite extreme with a wave consisting mostly of small to medium sets with only a couple of large ones. To be honest, out of the two really big ones both the Rexplorer and the Party Bus are easy passes for me - if there actually is a set of that giant fist-shaped ship, the Rexcelsior, then the Rexplorer will be all sorts of redundant, and the Party Bus is cool but will ultimately just be a waste of space in my layout. I'm probably going to save my money for the inevitable Apocalypseberg Statue of Liberty D2C.
  16. I particularly like the Sunset Racer and the House Boat. Definitely getting both of those for my city - I'm working on a Docks/canal area, and the Houseboat would be perfect.
  17. Eh. Out of the two leaks I've seen so far - note here that I am not a car enthusiast and am really only interested in Speed Champions for the cars' potential to be used as civilian vehicles in City layouts - the McLaren Senna, 75892, looks much nicer, whereas the Ferrari F40 is kind of boxy and plain. Sad thing is, it's the more realistic of the two for my purposes . . but screw that. It's my city, and my citizens will have cars that are nice to look at! Realism be damned! XD
  18. Nebby. Good one. XD Don't forget flesh-coloured Menny.
  19. So, official set pictures have appeared on instagram!
  20. So, we are now getting official leaked pictures of sets 80101 Chinese New Year's Eve Diner, 80102 Dragon Dance, and 80103 Chinese Boat Race. Discuss. Personally, I think that all three sets are absolutely gorgeous. The fact that there's a third set - the Boat Race - in addition to the Diner and Dance is just spectacular, made all the more so by the fact that it looks like the best of the three. The builds are gorgeous and easy to work into a Docks area - and goes especially well alongside the Ninjago City Docks, might I add - and it comes with a record-setting FOURTEEN minifigures. I dearly hope that these are released globally, even if they're Lego Store exclusives. I want that Boat Race for my village. I want it so much.
  21. I like both of these new sets. The Shipwreck is impressive, though I really should have guessed that it could be rebuilt into a full, functional ship. Not like anyone cares that ships like that don't work in Minecraft, eh? (Without mods, anyway.) I'm actually a bit disappointed by the town new player skins. They both look underdetailed, and I thought the prelim pictures showed a player with dark skin and a green jacket. I was looking forward to that, damnit. The pirate one looks plain, and the dragon hunter one is . . alright, but . . eh. Very eh. Also disappointed by the accessories in both sets; no armour? One gold sword for Alex and pirate boy to share? Fighting the Ender Dragon with only an enchanted bow? The mobs, though, are definitely the highlights. The dolphin and turtle are adorable, cheap Enderman is a plus, and the Ender Dragon is epic. And ah, turtle eggs. Little banes of my games. I approve of the 'cannon' dispensers, too. Are those supposed to be fire charges they're shooting? Nice!
  22. Amen. Randomness is awesome. Well, I'd assume that they don't want to make any sets that spoil the movie any more than they have to. I mean, look at what we have so far. We have a bunch of Apocalypseburg-themed stuff that'll probably all be over within the first ten minutes of the movie, two sets with Whatevra Wa'Nabi, both of which are representative of little more than what you see in the trailer, the spaceships, all of which we've seen already in the trailers. The only things that constitute possible spoilers in this set lineup are; 1. The fact that Rex owns an off-road car as well as a spaceship, (which is about as minor as spoilers get). 2. That Owen and Rex are going to come up against 'Plantimals' at some point, probably on their way to the Sistarr System. 3. That the 'Pop-Up Party Bus' is a thing, which I highly doubt will be anything more than an overbuilt joke. 4: And that Emmet's latest big idea is a three-wheeled unicycle. I assume that we'll get more sets with more spoiler-y elements in 2HY.
  23. I'm pretty certain that this wave's Rexplorer is supposed to be a scaled down version of that. I think. It's possible that Rex owns two spaceships. Side note: according to a character bio on TBB, that ship is actually named 'Rexcelsior'. A better Lego Movie tribute to Stan Lee I could not imagine.
  24. They also all have teal coloured eyes. Except Mayhem, who has heterochromia; one teal and one pink eye. Eh. I like them. ^^
