Settlement, Mesabi Landing, Argentia, Corrington (Era II)
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
A map of Mesabi Landing: The old settlement thread from Era I can be found here. Mesabi Landing Building Guide The following is a set of guidelines that you can follow when you build in or around the settlement of Mesabi Landing. The original description of the island states: This means that you should base your MOC on sand-coloured, brown or grey ground. Vegetation should be limited to palmtrees, cacti of any kind, and dry grass. Anything more than that should be given a reasonable explanation. The buildings in Mesabi Landing are often built with grey bricks and a variety of other colours sprinkled in. More than two storeys are very uncommon. Pathways and roads are often paved with grey cobblestone. A few examples: .. "Two Palms" inn by Ayrlego (top left), Major Walshs residence by Lord Buckethead (top right), poppy plantation by Mesabi (lower left) and a rock quarry by Drunknok (lower right). . Please keep in mind that these guidelines are not strict rules - you can follow them, you do not have to.- 33 replies

Name: Mesabi Landing Ownership: Wayfarer Trading Company , via the Crown of Corrington Location: Argentia, East Prio Sea Map: Mayor: Count Mesabi . Trade Value: see accounts spreedsheet Town Bank: see accounts spreedsheet Who can own property in Mesabi Landing: Anyone Who can freebuild in Mesabi Landing: Anyone Description: Pax Corlandia was a dangerous incident for all sides involved. With the Corrish occupation of Nova Malto, battle lines were drawn, and names were made. One of these names was Captain Mesabi, who was annointed Count for his bravery (or lunacy?) during the incident. After the whole Nova Malto incident, the Corrington Colonial Council decided to do something to about the troublesome - now Count - Mesabi. The solution was simple: send him to a faraway island. Isle 14, AKA Keep-Yer-Boots-On, AKA Argentia, was decidedly the right place. Littered with waste from passing ships, cacti, crabs with hats, and mysterious plants, Argentia is perhaps the most depressing of the Islands of the Prio Sea - and a perfect place to keep Mesabi from causing more trouble. Undeterred, Count Mesabi established a settlement on the barren island, naming it after himself. Newly ennobled, he seeks to make the settlement the greatest in the Prio seas, at all costs. The settlement has grown quickly, becoming a haven for exiles, outlaws, and traders from all known (and sometimes unknown) nations. The WTC unofficially controls the town, despite the protests of the Crown. However, the settlement remains a rough place, and at the same time an eldorado for those looking for adventures, glory - and profits. Original Information: Builds in Mesabi Landing Please help us out by posting a link to your Mesabi Landing builds in this thread. Each builder is listed after the type of licence. [SR - AMCRA FB4 Oct] Uncharted Jungles
Darnok replied to MKJoshA's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
AMCRA Outcome: @MKJoshA When Captain Sulu left Fatu Hiva months ago on board of his trusted "Golden Dragon", he had nothing but an obscure map of uncharted islands in his hand and treasures on his mind. After setting foot on land he found more than he was asking for: a huge treasure chest was uncovered soon, but local natives had to be fought off at the same time. Unwilling to risk his newly found treasure and the well-being of himself and his crew, Captain Sulu decided to sail back into the west. Having now returned to the port of Tortuga, Captain Sulu is not only far more wealthy than before, but also has aquired some solid knowledge about the island explored by him and his men. Adventure outcome: Your adventure treasury is 418DB. This amount will be transferred back to your main account soon. The "Golden Dragon" is supposed to be in Tortuga as the starting point for upcoming MRCAs. You have the right to name island #3 in the New Haven Sea region. To do so, please provide a build (vignette or larger) in which Captain Sulu states this name (this could be anything from him boasting in a pub about his discovery to him making notes about the expedition - feel free to come up with an idea of your own). You also have learned about the island rumours. These will be given you via PM soon. Please let us know how the adventure went for you in your opinion, i.e. give the gamemasters some feedback. What went well, what could be done differently? Any feedback is appreciated. -
Current members are Mesabi and Drunknok. There is no monopoly bonus (yet).

[COR - ML] Market Place in Mesabi Landing
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thank you. Thanks! Thank you for the kind words. I noticed the same with a lot of my threads. I do host my pictures on Imgur, and resize them via EB. One problem might be that the original (big) image file is loaded. I will experiment with this in the future. Thanks. The cider stand was the first build done, it kind of developed from there. Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Thanks. -

[COR-FB1] The Reckoning: Chapter 2: Invasive species
Darnok replied to Mesabi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
There is a madman running around, stealing identities and... yes, what? Interesting times ahead of us for sure! A lovely build, both outside and inside. The different reads and browns give the house a more "uncivilised" look, while it still looks like a proper structure, I like the effect. The river and the jungle look good - why did you not build for the Orchid challenge in B and C, you obviously have the parts? If I had to criticise anything, it is that some of the parts are not firmly pressed together, in particular with the roof section. An overall great build and story, I am already looking forward to the next chapter!- 2 replies

The most dynamic settlement in the East Prio Sea, Mesabi Landing naturally attracts a lot of different traders. As a result, its market place in the middle of the city is always busy. Two traders came from Eslando, who also had the biggest booths. One of them sold fine cloth from Augustinian Colonial Textiles in Weelond, where price negotiations between a young lady and the shop owner were heated, while her son mustered some fabric in fine Corrish Red: Another trader came from Fuerte Unido on nearby Isla de Victoria, selling fruits and vegetables from a farm there. He had a lot to offer, from lettuce and different beets to tomatoes, carrots and pumkins to apples and even lemons local to the island. A customer asked for some mroe apples - apparently for a recipe called "Applebread" he had read about recently: Speaking of recipes, the latest issue of "WTC Monthly" was of course on sale, attracting even young readery: An Oleander trader sold hats, which cheered up an elderly local for some reason: A fisherman had a variety of fresh fish and crabs on offer, while on the other end of the market Joe, innkeeper of the "Blue Dragon", sold some refreshing applecider: Two WTC Marines stood near Joe, were also some sausages were on sale, and had a chat over drink and food. "Man, this drink is alright, but I want my rum back." ... "Aye. But don't say 'at too loudly. This sausage though... is it pork? Damn, I prefer me some good ol' horse meat. And my hands are all greasy now... somebody should do something about this!" ========================================================================================== Licensed as a medium commerce property for Mesabi Landing. More pictures: The build was fun, especially because of all the little stories it tells. There is more, but that is reserved for another day... C&C appreciated, as always!

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I think it more about how range as a stat translate to "real time speed". From what I understand... ... sounds about right. -
A quite simple build, but not bad. I think Kwatchi has made all relevant points.

While doing the write-up for my plants index, I came across this one again - and could not believe I had not commented! A mistake I will correct now. I like both builds, and the fact that they form a coherent scene - well done! The idea to portray not the inner jungles but a scene by the shorline is excellent (Professor Thaum did something similar), I like the variety it brings. The waves are a nice detail, but the vegetation is the true star for me: colourful, with lots of variety. The volcano scene is also done nicely, even though it feels a bit unfinished due to the visible hollow studs on the rock parts. The lava flow is well done though. Overall two great builds, with a short but well written story.

A collected all "plant entries" from this challenge and have added them to my BotBS Plant Index. And while the challenge is over, like Elostirion, I continue my expedition of Celestia.

I have collected all (I hope) "plant entries" from the Superb Orchid challenge and added them to the OP under their own section. Where available, I used the "scientific" plant names chosen by the builders. If I missed anything, please let me know.

[COR WTC] WTC Monthly - Issue 3, February 618
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
All the recipes posted in the WTCM so far are genuine, and I have done each of them (and eaten the results) in real life more than once. I am pretty sure I will not do a rat based recipe, but I am tempted by a horsemeat lasagne to be honest. Or another horsemeat based recipe. We will see... -

[COR WTC] WTC Monthly - Issue 3, February 618
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
The next issue of the WTCM is in the works, so as usual I want to repeat: if you have "readers letters" or ideas for articles to be published, do not hesitate to send me a PM. Please keep in mind that every WTCM incentive is only active until the next issue. Currently that means: if you plan to build a large property in Mesabi Landing (reward: 100DB), and you are not sure f you can make it before the next issue, do not hesitate to send me a PM! I also want to repeat the request for either recipes of yours you would like to share, or alternatively: what would you like to see in regards to "piraty recipes"? -
Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Well, there will be no physical prizes anyway, so that is not an issue. I had my reasons to disqualify LDD builds for the last minichallenge, but the player environment has changed, and so has my opinion. I still do not want physical builds to directly compete with LDD builds, but as @Bart suggested that can be easily solved by seperate categories. -

I think you do have a good point, and if I get to do this, there will be some an option for LDD entries for sure. -
The Diaries of Reinhard Wolffson - On Celestia
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
618, Day 27 of the 1st month, In the jungles of Celestia I am still deep in the jungles of Celestia. It was right to send the young Ms. Garnet back to Jameston, but I do miss her company. The last weeks have been a challenge, and at many times I wished I still had her by my side. The jungle has become wilder and more difficult to pass, so I keep my trusted axe ready at all times, just in case. I have been following the river for over five weeks now. If there really was a civilisation in this area as I have assumed after finding the temple, the signs of its existence are scarce. There were a few small ruins along my path, but none were more than some overgrown walls, claimed by the jungles centuries ago. So it was all the more exciting when I came across something different today. Other than the previous ruins, it seemed to be a shrine of sorts, and relatively intact. The similarity to the ruined temple were I found the Supreme Orchid was striking. I could not help but stand in awe. After some time I continued my journey, with new enthusiasm for what mysteries this place had still to offer.I could not help but feeling watched though... ================================================================================= The adventures of Reinhard Wolffson on Celestia are not over! Some more shots of the "main build" without minifig, and the mysterious watchers: Not caring about property size at all was kind of refreshing, and I think this is my first build with a somewhat irregular base. I will definitely do more of this, it was quite fun and easy to build. As always, C&C is appreciated. -

I know that @Elostirion is also further exploring Celestia - since I do not want to create any story conflicts, could you please send me a PM with what I should NOT do? The same goes to @Bregir: if there is any overarching storyline already decided in the background, please let me know what I can do to either help building on it, or at least not contradict it. Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Testing the waters here, a question to everybody: Is there a general interest for an Easter themed minichallenge like the one I did around Christmas? It would again be about a seasonal scene with story to go with it - see the Merrynight Mystery minichallenge as an example. Prizes would be similar, but this time I would like to run it through all of April. That is, if people are interested, and the Higher Ups agree of course. As I said: just testing the waters for now. Thoughts?
