New graphics are in the air - share your feedback
Darnok replied to Bonaparte's topic in Forum Information and Help
While I appreciate the change of visuals, it is a bit weird to change to an Easter theme over a month AFTER this years Easter. -
Very nice build indeed, well done! I might have used a smaller gate, but that is personal taste I guess. The overall look - and especially the interior, I love interiors! - is great. One piece of advice not related to the build itself: I believe you would get more attention (and comments) if you added a few pictures to the OP. Just one or two shots showing the MOC from different angles.

Aye, they are both not "Pirates" sets. They are taking designs of old "Pirates" sets though, and adapt them into a new setting (rollercoaster and treehouse in these cases). I can not say for sure what the intention is, but I would assume it is meant to both appeal to AFOLS (pirates nostalgia), as well as introduce those designs in another form back to younger customers. I kind of hope it is some form of "building up excitement" for net year - I share your hope for a new "Pirates" theme too! Aye again. I doubt anybody can seriously deny that the 2015 lacked inspiration. The set were not bad at all, but you had more or less seen everything before. Times have changed a bit since then, and Lego has used many new parts and building techniques since then. Just think of the current "Destiny's Bounty"! I have high hopes for next year.

Do you have a screenshot or a link from the WayBackMachine?

Nice, on both accounts! 1st build: I absolutely love what you have done with the base! A really clever design, giving the build some "air to breath" while still being technically only 16x16 in size. The tree is well done, as is the carriage. And the scenes overall composition just works. Great stuff! 2nd build: The ornate woodwork is lovely. I also like the story, great use of other builds as "song inspiration"! 3rd build: Looking forward to it already! There is time until the 13th (not the 10th).

Sweet build, nice BBT reference, and lovely collection of flags. Well done! You are of course missing the most amazing flags of all: the WTC one. Boo!

[TSotEP] 8 - Map & Pursuit
Darnok replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I do not know what to say, other than: brilliant! The microbuild map is great (that sea monster! ), the "Captain Cookies Delight" is just awesome (and I want to see more of it), and the writing is hilarious. Please, more of this. Well done! -
I noticed that most "Themes" subforums have a unique design, while some others have not. "Pirates" is among those without a unique design, and I wondered why that is. Could this be changed? @Phred and @SkaForHire sure have to say something about it, but I would like to hear other opinions as well.

[COR WTC] WTC Monthly - Issue 5, April 618
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
As it has been written: credit where credit is due. I think all of you do great things for the game (in case of the FTA: other SR players too of course!). That offer will gladly be taken sooner rather than later. -
@Elostirion Wow, I am sure some work went to this ("Tag der Arbeit" im besten Sinne? ). Thank you for the effort, it has been a very interesting and enlightening read.

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I understand that, and have nothing against this principle. What I have a problem with is the needless removal of a rule that allowed for flexibility as well as supporting other settlements on top of growing your individual economy. This new restriction will make licensing much more "selfish". I for one can not see me support other settlements in the way I have done before. Which is a shame really, because I believe the last thing leadership wants is to reduce interaction and support between players and IC entities. With this change they have done exactly that though. -

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I wanted to keep a numerical analysis out of this for the time being, because anybody above fourth grade can see that the land-based EGS is a really SLOW way to generate income. I can not let this part stand though: You are breaking even after five months for most land properties, counting after the month the build was licensed. That is half a year. How can you call that "a really quick ROI"? With some basic number crunching you can recoup the investment on a ship in the month it was licensed. There is hardly a real comparison, land EGS and ship EGS basically play in different leagues. -
Thank you! I kind of agree. I was torn between doing this dock section the same way as the beginning of the harbour, or changing the visual style by building it differently. In hindsight I think additional structure on the street and more details on the water/dock portion would have been the better choice. I will remember it for future builds, so thank you for bringing this up.

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
If that is the reason - and so far nobody has suggested that - I once again would like to raise this point: why did nobody talk to either myself or Mesabi? The settlement did not grow overnight and nobody ever questioned the quality of the builds, especially nobody from the leadership team. Again: if the above is indeed the the reason (or one of the reasons), the reasonable solution would have been to approach the players in question, i.e. myself or @Mesabi. I can not speak for him, but I was never contacted concerning this. Instead we got this overreaction, punishing everybody. This is a compromise I would support. -

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II

Good for you. Why should that be the standard for anybody else though? Other people prefer to post what they get done, both for feedback as well as recognition. With this approach they appreciate any encouragement they can get. Positive feedback is one factor, but especially for beginners the EGS rewards are another form of such encouragement. By cutting that second part out this motivational factor is out, as well as other options for progression in the EGS. This is nothing the long-time players care about of course - their coffers are already filled, so to speak. But this game is not only for these players, unless it wants to die a slow death. Encouraging beginners in any way possible should be a prime objective of the rules - this change does the opposite. I have yet to experience even one player here who does that. But even IF there was such a player: why is it up to you to decide if he or she does it "wrong"? The EGS is an integral part of this game, so playing for the EGS alone is a reasonable approach - if you want to do so. Again, there is no such case as far as I know, so this is no issue to begin with. But it is pretty arrogant to claim that there is a "wrong" way to play the game in a way you simply do not appreciate. -
[MMM] Merrynight Mystery Mini-Challenge
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
A small update on the progress of the two main prices. The build for Capt Wolf was finished way back in February already. Due to a variety of reasons I am not able to finish the one for Lord Buckethead in April though. We agreed to remove the "deadline" on my part in exchange for a larger build. I hope to have it done soon™ though. -
I had things like a chandelier on one of the walls or a chair to the scene. Those could of course very well be in the scene, unseen. I can not judge a build on what might be outside of it though. You are of course right about the "low budget hostel" look, and I guess a lack of furniture is also quite appropriate for the setting.
-
I can only echo others: for a first LDD build this one is pretty spectacular. It is actually hard to believe that it is a first try - taken as a compliment I hope! I like the build a lot. The way the outside is done (irregular, layered) adds a lot. The choice of colours is excellent. If I could change anything, it would be some additional details on the inside, where the scene looks a little bit empty. That is due to the inexperience with LDD I assume, and not a big deal anyway. An overall great MOC, especially given the circumstances, very well done!

[COR-FB4] Hurriedly hiring help.
Darnok replied to Agent Kallus's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Indeed the facade is a nice build, but the base really caught my eye - very well built! You also got a lot of great storytelling out of this one small build. An overall great MOC, you can be proud. Well done! -
Great market scene, full of details and clever little builds - and so busy. Awesome! The irregular base is an excellent idea to support the crowded scene, as is the choice to go for different stall builds. The minifig posing is also very well done. Last, but absolutely not least: I love the inclusion of so many other stories (like the pineapple field, or the Kebap store). Well done!
