LEGO Creator 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Vilhelm22 replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Woah where did you here this and how reliable is it? Aren’t Taj Mahal and Old Trafford the only current buildings? I’d honestly expect it to stay... If true, this puts me in a tricky position. I can only really afford 2 extra large sets (more than £200) this year. I want Sydney Opera House, Roller Coaster, and Taj Mahal. Opera House is retired but hasn’t yet skyrocketed in price. According to Retiring Sets (search it up!) Roller Coaster is high risk. And @BrickBuilderX says Taj Mahal. Sydney Opera House is pretty definitely a choice, but Taj Mahal or Roller Coaster? -
For ages known as Zebra (a code name before release, similar to banana for Hidden Side), TLG officially announced today (July 1st) the new LEGO Art theme, starting with four sets: 31197 Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe 31198 The Beatles 31199 Marvel Studios Iron Man 31200 Star Wars Sith Each set makes one of 3-4 mosaics, with the Iron Man and Sith sets being combinable to form a mega picture from 3 sets. With one set you can make 1 Beatle, 1 Marilyn Monroe, etc. The prices for each set are US$120/€120/£115. These will be available from August 1st everywhere excluding US and Canada for The Beatles, Marilyn Monroe and the Sith. Iron Man is available universally on August 1st. For those thinking this has been mentioned before, it has, but not in its own deserved thread, and basically only names of sets + theme. There was never the deserved own thread, and no pictures, which is why I’m creating it now! I don’t know about everyone else but I’m hyped for these - though disappointed at the price... Discuss here.

So, what are Leaf, IP-2 and Zebra?

I can’t find an announcement thread so I’m starting one now. It deserves one and should probably make the front page. -
LEGO Ideas Discussion

Ah. Thanks for the info. Also, it’s 16 now. Can’t remember the name but that big blue plane. -
Amazing! This is a great idea, a bit different from other contest entries. The idea of building upwards rather than outwards is an interesting one, and I can’t think of another entry with four solid restrictive sides. However, looking at the chosen dog it may be more likely to destroy the flowers rather than just sniffing them !

LEGO Ideas Discussion
Vilhelm22 replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I just went back through the blog on Ideas and found out that the First 2019 Review Results post was on 26th September 2019. We can therefore expect almost 3 months until the next review results... ....which would be 20-25 more ideas qualifying for the Second 2020 Review if they continue at the same rate (meaning 30-35 total!) -
Can anyone remember the exact date that the PU app was updated for the Haunted House? Just as a pointer as to when the Crocodile update will come.
-
Well it hasn’t actually been released yet - these are I’m guessing preorders that will ship 1st July.
-
Awesome! The six final modules together will look fantastic - I’m looking forward to it!
-
Thanks everyone for all the replies! It’s more a question for the future than now, so the thing of buying before third party stuff is made shouldn’t be a problem. However, from the mixed responses I’m kinda leaning towards PF/PUP instead, as it’s what I have already... To be fair this idea was really sparked from seeing @michaelgale’s amazing switches, but I may end up buying them plus plastic track. Anyway, thanks again for all the responses - I definitely didn’t expect so many so fast!

Amazing! Congratulations on another fantastic MOC! -
LEGO Ideas Discussion

I think I’m in the minority of really liking the typewriter. TBH though I don’t know much about them so couldn’t say that it’s right or wrong. Also really looking forward to the McCallister’s House set - it looks amazing and I’ve watched the film many, many times. Congratulations @adwind! Seinfeld is of no interest to me - I’ve never watched the show and my list of things to watch is so long I probably never will. As actual shows, I prefer Big Bang Theory and Friends, so unsurprisingly I prefer the sets too. Anyway, when are these expected to be released considering they haven’t yet caught up with the last review? -
As far as AFOLs go, I’m pretty young, and my first (and only) trains are all PF. However, with recent developments from @michaelgale - by the way those switches look amazing - and ideas by @coaster of BrickTracks and @michaelgale for 9v pickups, I’m liking the idea of buying 9v and using PF/PU motors attached to the pickups more and more. I own a rather large inherited HO scale collection, so I know the high quality and versatility of Fleischmann track and I kinda want that with LEGO too. Brick Train Depot also sells custom 9v track. With lots of trains, the batteries become too expensive - is 9v a better choice?
-
Probably not, because it makes far more than one model, and the crocodile in it isn’t exactly accurate. They’re two very different sets.
-
Honestly I’m not so sure about the hose in brown because on the prototype it’s incredibly thin, whereas here it’s rather thick. It’s so small that I think it looks better without. Also, if you get into that, there are more handrails than just there, so it could become overcrowded.

Disney Train is, but tbh it’s sort of a separate thing, like the WV train. EN is based on the LNER Flying Scotsman, as 60103 in its later years. It was earlier numbered as 4472 and was a paler green. However, those ‘elephant ears’ as you excellently called them, were only added when a double funnel was fitted to improve efficiency, and as a Brit I can tell you they aren’t common. These ‘ears’ are actually called smoke deflectors, and are rare in British locomotives in that rectangular shape. A3s were updated to the double funnel later on, greatly increasing smoke and causing smoke deflectors to be a requirement. Tall chimneys on others were a common alternative on new trains, and ones built with the deflectors from the start didn’t look the same.

I’m gonna support steam over diesel/electric most times. If we get a US steam train, I realise the Big Boy is too big - is a Challenger? I also wouldn’t mind a UP FEF class locomotive - preferably in the grey/black paint scheme with the two yellow stripes as opposed to black. A Mikado type would be welcome, and I’d love the SP Daylight locomotive. One of my favourites is the Southern Crescent Limited - with the dark/sand green colour it’s perfect both for looks and parts. (To be fair with US steam trains I’m extremely biased towards the ones I have in my inherited HO scale collection of 23 locomotives.)
-
These modifications have really improved this model - will definitely be implementing them when I get my hands on one of these! Thanks for sharing your improvements in ways others can copy them easily!
-
As a Brit, this is one of those trains that I really consider a beauty. The West Coast version of the LNER Mallard (and the 34 other A4s). However, unfortunately, I don’t see this as a likely choice because of how well known it isn’t. I would love to see one, but I honestly don’t expect it at all. And it’s also incredibly difficult to do at the nose - and those gold stripes would have to be printed at the nose. We can only dream...
-
The problem with this is that requires a different motorisation technique - as the motors are, like on the prototype, in the noses, so it requires a motor in each nose as a result...

LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Vilhelm22 replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Glad to see you agree! It’s actually my brother who has it, whilst I have the big airport set from 2016 - a big regret on my part. I’m in a similar position to you as a result. I’m seriously jealous of him - I’m kind of hoping I’ll continue to like LEGO and he won’t...! -
LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Vilhelm22 replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
As we’re talking about planes, who else thinks the planes in 60103 Airport Airshow are the best City planes ever produced? Those big panels on the huge planes really annoy me, and the biplane in 60103 is a beauty. -
Took the words out of my mouth! Amazing MOC! Though it might be improved if the base is enclosed, so none of the cogs, nor the ‘wrong season’ are seen. Anyway, awesome MOC - congratulations!
-
Agreed, so the 1x4 bricks can’t be the issue. The only other reason I can think of is that the rubber bands on all the other large wheels (not the blind drivers) raise them off the tracks slightly. Whilst moving, realistically this won’t make a difference, but when on display the red traction tyres look bad anyway and should be removed. Hopefully it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

I don’t comment that often, but I have to congratulate you on this one. Medieval mini builds and the like are awesome - and particularly this one. The story behind it is simply the icing on the cake. And the information on each of the plants in the garden is amazing! Not something I would have been able to do for my models. Congratulations!
