Okay i have a very specific problem. I need to connect 3 turntables together. The top turntable is the larger one and the two at the bottom are smaller 3x3 turntables. The top one needs one gear with a 1 long axle end and 2 stud ends piece to add friction to the turntable. The bottom ones need two smaller gears to add friction with one of those gray 3 long axle pins and the second one can use a regular 2 long axle pin connector to add friction. The bottom turntables need to be connected in a way that you can spread them out a little bit I currently have the setup working normally except the fact that there is no mechanism to spread the bottom two turntables outward. So they're just static but turning. I need a mechanism that will spread the bottom turntables vertically a little bit. Since the leg is large, the hip doesn't need to spread out that much. The width of the whole construction needs to be exactly 7 studs wide from turn table connector to the other. Cause the turn table is 1 stud wide itself in the middle, the total width of the hip is 9 studs wide from leg to leg. The leg itself is going to be 3-5 studs wide. How it's currently setup If anybody can think of a mechanism that'll let me spread out the turn tables just a little bit, please help! The image is representing the hip joint from top down view. Up is forwards and down is backwards. So the leg actuators spread sideways.

[Help] Chicken mech legs.
Mechbuilds replied to Mechbuilds's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Follow this build in this thread. -
UPDATE: The lower torso needs a little bit of work and the legs need a redesign.. The top half of the torso is coming along nicely. A very jaegermech style vibe to it. I'm kinda running low on white parts so i'll need to improvise.

Here's a thread of my WIP project. More pictures coming soon. Currently it has been modified a lot from this original image but the idea is to make a medium/big sized mech. I'm drawing my inspiration from mech warrior online. MORE PICS! The build is slowly advancing when i start getting parts in the mail. Next project to tackle is the knee joints.

Oh okay. Maybe i should make a thread there instead. But for mechanical help for functions, i'll just add stuff in this thread if needed. -
It's mechanically pretty simple but still very complex.

I think this looks cool. I just don't have anything to add. Keep up the good work.

Original Bionicle vs CCBS discussion
Mechbuilds replied to MakutaOfWar's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I'm pretty much neck deep invested in technic (With a little tiny splash of CCBS/bionicle..). But the mixel thing is starting to look very tempting.. Only thing holding me back from doing mixels is money. What i would make with the mixel joint system would be tiny mechs. -
[Help] Chicken mech legs.
Mechbuilds replied to Mechbuilds's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Now that the hip is ready, it's more clear to start perceive the shape and scale. I haven't completely locked down with the chicken style legs yet. I'm either taking the inspiration from the mech warrior locust or the mech warrior spider. Locust: I won't make an exact model of either of these. I'll just look at the pictures and get inspiration if i get stuck. But what i have already decided is: The hip actuators will only have one direction of moment so the legs can't spread apart sideways. This is something that compliments the chicken style leg shape. But then again, if i make the upper torso very nose heavy, there is a chance that it'll fall down because the hip actuators are not clicky jointed. So either make a chicken mech that's harder to balance or a spider style jumping mech. At this point, both of these styles are what i'm liking so it's a 50/50 on my part. As for the knee joints, i'll put the two joints one stud length away from each other and put two of these in the middle: -

It's designed to be a poseable statue. I should have ordered more of these clicky joints. Hehe. I'll be making this mech completely out of technic parts. -

Thanks for the heads up. I ordered 5 pieces. Here's a teaser of the mech so far: The 3x3 turntables have two gears each with one 1 long stud axle and one 2 long stud axle to add friction. These turntables take a medium amount of force to turn them. If the clicky joints have equal amount of friction, it'll be plenty enough. -
Introducing the CK-0 Mech size: HeavyMech class: Combat bruiserEquipment:-Torso mounted twin medium lasers-Arm mounted medium lasers-Shoulder mounted long range missiles x6 -Heavy armorThe Crab king frame is a very powerful combat bruiser. The frame is equipped with long and medium range firepower. This mech however is very slow and clunky in close combat.Pics:

I'm going to build a mech from technic. My problem is that mostly i've been building CCBS joints on these mechs which are sturdy enough to take some weight.. But now i'm thinking about making a bigger mech so the legs will need to hold more weight to them. I'm going with the chicken style legs which means that the knee joint is backwards. How can i make it sturdy enough? The bottom torso will have a big turntable and the legs will be attached by the smaller 3x3 turntables. How do i add friction to the turntables? Also what parts should i make the knee joints from? I'm thinking about ordering these: Can these joints hold weight if i put two of them per knee? The mech will be about 20-30 cm tall.

Generic Contest Discussion
Mechbuilds replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I personally don't vote because the voting thing is complicated. What i want is just a poll with the contestants names in and i'll simply pick the one i like the most. The whole distribution of numbers gets too confusing to learn. -
The gold trim fits this nicely.

I personally find this moc awesome but i also side with jotta. I think that it has too many cranes.. One crane on the front end is enough.. I know heavy equipment from my job(s) and i can say that three cranes would just be in the way of eachother. And i couldn't think of a situation where you would need three cranes.

[WIP] Tractor
Mechbuilds replied to Mechbuilds's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Update! It's starting to take shape. I'm still kinda fiddly with the gearbox and the hood situation but it's coming together.. I just hope that the rear tires are one stud higher because otherwise we'll have a tractor that has the front end slightly lower and the rear end higher.. Pics: -
General Part Discussion
Mechbuilds replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The silver colored part is the weakest of all. Poor quality plastic perhaps. The black ones are the most durable though. But i've had two black ones snap before. They mostly snap when i'm trying to push an axle trough. Some times when i push an half pin half axle out of them with anther axle, they break. I don't know why. The silver ones are the worst and the gray one is a close second.- 5,507 replies

General Part Discussion
Mechbuilds replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
My problem with this piece is that it's too darn weak.. Why can't it be shaped like the axle to stud connector? I have about 10 of those axle to axle connectors where the end just snapped off.. And i wasn't applying any force or weight to them either. It's like they get brittle over time.- 5,507 replies

I know the scale you're talking about. It'll be too big if you're planning on building a helmet.. But for a moc without a helmet like kerrigan ect.. It'd be about okay size.

[WIP] Tractor
Mechbuilds replied to Mechbuilds's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Update! Bottom half of the frame midway complete. Try not to cringe at the amateur job of the gearbox.. It's not completely finished but the motor drives the rear wheels.. I think the ratio is 1:2,5 or 1:3.. Haven't done the calculations yet. The frame is already a tad too long to my taste but i can make it work. The part that makes me sad is that i couldn't figure out how to make a functional tractor front suspension.. (The front axle hangs from the middle with no springs) <-- The steering might be harder to built. So it's currently a suspensionless tractor.. But hey.. The seat has a suspension so it's all good right? Here are some pics: Yeah... The gearbox is pretty cringy i know.. Any pointers how to attach the selector to the side? -
[WIP] Tractor
Mechbuilds replied to Mechbuilds's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What i want now is: Select from driving wheels or driving external shaft.. Problem is: If i squeeze the motor right under the BB construction, i'll only have enough room to just directly attach it to the wheels.. I could just put an external shaft attached to the differential but then my wheels would be turning at the same time. If anybody can give me a tip here, it'd be great. Front wheels and tires: 41896 + 45982 Rear wheels and tires: 44772 + 54120 EDIT: I can also extend the chassis a little bit to fit the construction. The rear axle should be 1 stud higher than the front due to the difference of size on the tyres. If i put them at the same height, the front will be lower than the rear.
