Can the gear ratio be changed to match the rear axles though? -
My 8x8 Project
Mechbuilds replied to Mechbuilds's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Has anyone tried tackling a steering system like this? I asked sariel how he did it but he refused to answer. EDIT: This is not an easy task.. But i can go zerobricks idea if i can't come up with a solution. I was hoping to use those bigger wheel bearings though.. But there simply seems to be no way to connect it properly.. But i'd love to have just one vertical axle that i spin to turn it. Problem is trying to link them to the steering knuckles.. What i also could do is just solid front axles... -

My 8x8 Project
Mechbuilds replied to Mechbuilds's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What i could do is move the front axles half a stud apart so i can center the steering system. But i was planning on attaching two left and two right front axles together in the middle and adding a steering system between the axles in the center.. But i'm not sure how suspension travel affects the steering angle.. -
My 8x8 Project

Yeah the wheels turn and if i hold it from the hub, the frame has a minor flex. But after i strengthen the frame and add shocks, it should be gone. -
Hi guys! I've decided to scrap everything what i was doing and focus on this 8x8 project.. The axles are exactly copied from sariels tatra but i've put on some modifications.. The wheels are all locked with no differentials and the motor is direct drive 1:1. (subject to change) I'm currently waiting for a load of parts and soon more. So progress is at a snails pace. Features: 8x8 4 wheel steering RC Rock crawling abilities (lots of suspension travel) Here are some pics: Chassis with motor mounted: Rear axles Steering axles: Bottom: Next i need to tackle two things: A steering mechanism that works.. (all 4 front wheels are going to turn.) And a suspension that gives me lots of travel. (This is going to be used as an RC rock crawler.) The suspension needs to be as low and compact as possible but still giving the axles lots of articulation. Any tips/ideas? I really need help with the suspension and steering.

I mean, it's good as a C model. You did an A+ on it. But as a heavy drilling rig, it's just as realistic as the original 42055. Here's what a real drilling rig looks like in real life: I've seen one in action in real life. (Job was to drill holes for explosives.)

V4 Engine

This car has a V4 engine. (To be clearer, this is my car and i V6 swapped it but i still have the original V4 engine.) -
V4 Engine

Anyone got tips how i can make a car frame for this engine? I'm thinking about doing something like 42041B like in this thread: -
V4 Engine
Mechbuilds replied to Mechbuilds's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Quick update: Silly me.. The waterpump/alternator/fan should spin as the engine spins.. Also the fan should be a... you know.. fan? Also changed the oilpan and added cooling hoses.. Even a clutch at the back.. Now i need to start figuring out a good chassis.. -
Here's my V4 engine build. Features: -Alternator -Water pump -Crank pulley/fan -Belt and tensioner -Fully functioning pistons that move with the crankshaft -Carburetor on top -Distributor on back -Siamese exhaust like the original ford 15/17M engine. Next i need to figure out what's the smallest possible 4 speed gearbox i can attach to it.. There were no custom or cut parts used.

Opinions on LEGO Technic Theme
Mechbuilds replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
We have waaaay too much normal vehicles and not enough space scifi ships. I want technic spaceships and scifi themes.. Maybe even technic/bioncile mixup mechas.. Not that herofactory crap though. -
Thanks for the tips! Here's an update of the progress so far: It's just a prototype to highlight the machicolations. Due to lack of bricks, i had to improvise and build it all with those brick pieces.. The windows were there as fillers cause i ran out of parts. I need to order a massive massive pile of parts this month. Already doing prototypes on LDD. But yeah. Any tips for the walls? (I know the walls were completely solid and no pathways inside.) This prototype will be disassembled and the wall part itself will be redone.

Yeah i mean the crank where the human turns it to lift and lower the gate. I guess i could do with a simple mechanism to lift the gate and then push a technic axle trough to lock the gate in place. So all i need is just this: https://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-door-1-x-8-x-12-castle-gate-portcullis-89519 And a couple of these: https://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-brick-1-x-2-with-groove-4216 And i should have a gate after i add the lifter mechanism over it? EDIT: I should probably buy a few castle sets to get started.. I literally just ordered some random gray bricks and threw something together. Basically starting completely from scratch.

Hi guys! I'm planning on making a huge castle with my wife that'll be constructed on top of a table. Currently i have already designed a functional machicolation on top of my castle walls. Currently i'm trying to figure out a good gatehouse. I'll probably make two towers and have the gatehouse in between them. Any tips for a mechanism for a iron gate that'll go up and down? Behind that, i'll add two wooden doors. The castle will be in normal minfig scale. So it'll end up being quite large. I already made a sketch on LDD but the gatehouse was too tall. And the mechanism to lift the iron gate using chains needed a different mechanism so the crank would be behind the gatehouse instead of in the side. I need the crank to be built so it'll be unnoticeable. I'm trying to aim towards historical accuracy. I'll update this thread as our project goes. PS: The prototype of the wall is finished and i'll probably add pictures soon.

Nah my point was that if a vehicle like this was in real life, the front tires would collapse immediately. They must be made out of awesonium rubber that can hold it's shape.
-
It's a very cool moc. But the front tires are illogical.

The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)

Lego needs more spaceships and mechs out of starwars. Only reason why i buy starwars sets is because i need gray pieces.- 991 replies

I discovered that the hand part has a go trough hole in one side and just a stud on the other. After flipping the hand a bit, the sword stays on perfectly. The stud side that doesn't have a hole is slightly smaller than the stud with the hole. Also the sideways studs on the legs are slightly smaller too. The 1x1 plates do stick well. But when trying a cheese wedge from lego, they don't really stick that well. Conclusion: The leg and hand pieces should be reworked to have the studs stick better to lego.

Here's my humble review of the offbrand mybuild's product: "Keiji" First of all, the box itself feels really good quality. The parts were packed in plastic bags and the instruction booklet was tucked inside the box. The instruction booklet itself also feels very high quality. The instructions themselves are clear to read just like your regular lego booklets. Although the colors are very deep and dark. Here's a sample of one of the small stud pieces that are used in the joints: Instead of a paint or a sticker, these things are actually indented. Here's a comparison or the technic shoulder joints used compared to regular technic. (Lego = silver and MyBuild black.) Very close but just slightly thicker than lego. Notice how they utilized their original skeleton but modified the shoulders to give it additional articulation. It was pretty satisfying to build. All the parts snap on very snugly and feel very tight. The quality is more of like a display piece instead of a toy to play with. I felt more like building a moc instead of building a regular set. It did leave some additional parts behind. The cockpit opens up and it has room for a minifigure: I used a Lego starwars figure to show off how it fits. As you can see, without the helmet, it fits in very nicely. (I purposely angled the shoulder piece a little bit sideways so you can see the figure.) However, with a helmet it's a different story: It doesn't fit completely closed with the helmet. I did have a little bit of trouble with the sword though. The back part is very fragile to fall off. If you accidentally touch it even lightly, it'll fall off. However, the same problem doesn't come for the front piece because: It has a bar inside it which helps with the connection. What i didn't like about the sword was the use of this illegal connection here: Plate on a clip. The sword itself is very fantasy-like. A standard 1x1 clip plate with one of those long plates would have sufficed as a believeable sword. The proportions of the sword look comically huge. The hip and shoulder pieces are just a clip on a bar which leaves them room to slide back and fourth and tilt up and down. Here's a better view of the cockpit: It has room for a standard lego minifigure to sit normally and enjoy the ride. The starwars pilot helmet was too fat to fit though. Here's a picture of the figure standing straight with the sword on the ground just to show the scale of the sword compared to the figure: View of the back: And the pose: My thoughts: Brick feel: 9/10 - The pieces feel very snug and strong. As good as the original lego bricks themselves. However i had problems with the swords connection to the arm which was kinda loose. The studs that connect to the joints just push in but don't have a satisfying click. However, they're in there very tight. Instructions: 8/10 - The instruction booklet is good quality and the instructions are clear to read and understand. However the colors are kinda dark which gave me a problem to distinguish if i need a blue or a black piece. The figure itself: - Looks 9/10 - It looks very beautiful, it's more moc like and good attention to detail. Almost no studs left visible. However, the sword was a part i disliked. - Structure 8/10 - It's very sturdy and poseable. However the sword connection is very fiddly. - Building the figure 10/10 - It was very fun to build. Overall score: 8,8 / 10 Last thoughts: It feels like a high quality model that sits on top of a shelf. It feels very stiff to move which is a good thing because it's highly poseable. It's made using injection molding which makes the parts nice and strong. The company was nice enough to send me two of their products to review. (Thank you very much!) Would i recommend this product? Absolutely. Links: https://www.mybuildtoy.com/ https://www.facebook.com/mybuildtoy/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCu8i-dnVpFP0QrULIaQzudA

Many times in builds like these, their parts run out and they'll have to order more and more pieces constantly until the project is finished. Some times it'll take years to gather enough parts to finish a massive build like this.

I'm so sick of starwars. Bring back lego space!
