  1. yes this is incredible well done! those custom parts are amazing. any photos of them being made in case any of us would like to copy any photos of the internals? would love to see the winch solution (what a great idea!) and the 8 pumps setup etc.
  2. I really like this thing! If it was properly scaled to the original I think it would loose its charm with such a small cab, steering wheel, seat area. This is possibly a good size for those technic figures? and if they have 3L black pins... otherwise maybe its just some really clever building to only use 2L pins when visible.
  3. by the time I'm finished Lego may have released this panel in red but otherwise if I need these panels (definitely trying different options) then I think I would prefer to use black with a big red sticker or paint them as I think that is a little more acceptable within the LEGO community. I am not keen on the other companies really. The tumbler tyres stick out from where the fender lines are so I do plan on putting in some flare type of thingy on the JDM version, even if it is just another flex axle (I like gaps in my Technic ) nice solution! I tried it on the LDD and I'm not sure it fits so good here. when the wheel has almost the right angle it is very close to the seat bottom, sitting further back toward the seat also and then covering up the 'dash' more than before from a driver perspective (pedantics eh?). It looks a bit overbearing compared to a proper 240z one and I haven't secured it to anything in this pic either yet. its a compromise which ever way one goes
  4. so where have i got after 6 months? well not so far with lack of time, TC17, but I have spent considerable hours trying to get even this far. Body shaping is not my thing. first up though I have had to reshape the steering arms and strut connection as these Tumbler tyres are difficult to work with. I aim to mostly use the old style flatter tyre from 8860 I think is similar in diameter (?) and wont cause so many headaches cause as I said its mostly the rally version. But I also want to be able to use these Tumblers as well cause they look fat for the JDM style. what I had before was the steering link connections pointing down like below and trying to keep the connection near the wheel as close to the strut ball joint to fit into the tumbler tyres but this left a LOT of slop in the steering. when pushing the car the front wheels would \ / toe out massively so you could not push or steer. So I changed to this setup below which made a massive difference. the only thing being now that I need 1 1/2 stud spacer to the wheel to fit the tumbler tyres as I had to pull the steering links forward from the strut ball joint by 1 stud. Like I said before no problem with the other wheels and tyres I'll run for the rally version though. Anyway beside that I have a bit more rear section and some of the roof I have worked on. the boot/trunk took ages but I have a very nice subtle curve in there to mimic the real one and is form locked with the black axles and the #3 connector. Once again I'm not going with many panels for body work as I am not keen on that look so more flex axles and a few panels. on the roof I have these panels that don't come in red (yet?) so may have to re think that. its slow but happy how its going. I'll need a bricklink order of red flex axles now...they are expensive see you in another 6 months...
  5. 70-80 people browsing this thread at one time is that a record super cars are not my cup of tea but this does look good! The guy building this in the vid is definitely the clientele their aiming at huh. Imagine trying to build this on the kitchen table with a hungry toddler or two running about...
  6. yes its pretty much how all old automatic gearboxes worked. They shifted down when acceleration was applied depending on the revs and how hard the acceleration input was, then the gears would change up as required as that 'load' got 'easier' In a sense Sariels thingy here is a great representation of that outcome as the drive input torque remains the same on this of course.
  7. This is great! I love what diffs are capable of. They still baffle me of course... Anyway I like how it is not so smooth in operation. It lets you know something mechanical is happening which is pure Technic
  8. Hey this is quite nice! But there’s a small disappointment in me that I see negative camber on the front wheels (due to LEGO tolerances of course) and not the crazy positive camber that these cars are so renowned for. Also the crank handle doesn’t appear to connect to anything from what I can see? I’m not wanting to be over critical because you have the basis of a great MOC but it’s a bit disappointing to leave out two major features. do you have anymore photos and details of the steering setup? when pushing the car does it have excessive bump steer? I am building a generic old tractor that seems to have similar setup but when pushing it over my fingers the wheels went all over the place. I had to put in a steering dampener to help alleviate this problem so curious as to your setup. Forgot that I just worked out your steering and it’s not like mine at all.
  9. Oh man, that window trim misalignment and that awful panel work make it look like its been hail damaged. ugliest set ever IMO!
  10. Boo! There’s so much I could say about you not finishing things ... but c’mon your almost done and it looks amazing so far. Just finish it even if it’s not for TC. I understand the bodywork thing as I’m struggling with it myself at the moment but better to finish and ‘fail’ than to give up.
  11. Well following on from the above post in a sense is that there are some very nice b and c models being posted lately but it’s the b models that really get me a bit sad because of the lack of official one. Makes me not want to buy sets in a way. That’s not a new conversation of course but I wonder if so many alternate builds on rebrickable have influenced the lack of official b models. Cheaper to produce sets and more sets can be churned out. So my point in all this is will LEGO end up wanting to buy rebrickable...Getting income from MOC’ers to make b models for them
  12. Ah wow I should visit thispart of the forum more often another amazing camera build!
  13. Blew me away this one did, fantastic
  14. No, umm im not sure what I’m saying after re reading that, I was very tired last night when I posted I don’t think I have an answer, just a critique of looks over functions on a technic set with the use of too many panels which can look UGLY!! If done wrong. And that is spoiling the technic line imo. But it is obviously popular due to it’s ongoing effect so marketing must be good for these sets...
  15. I disagree. I think it boosts creativity in parts usage to suit the rigid design structure which is more challenging in the build. For your own design you can easily bend that design to suit the parts which is an easier thing to do, technically speaking IMO. There should be a sub category for these types of builds, they should not be technic. They should be separated to a model team type of build where parts are focused on the looks but still have some working elements perhaps. The popularity of these ‘look’ builds seems to be spilling over to proper technic and diluting substance.
  16. great build indeed! looks and works fantastic
  17. dam this is gorgeous! although those wing mirrors don't look too aerodynamic
  18. very nice!, I'll take some inspiration from this. Any functions? chassis shot etc?
  19. exactly how a Technic car should be. Its beautiful very good thinking
  20. This is a superb design. I prefer the roof off, the roof makes it less futuristic somehow, but either on or off its a
  21. @Jim before I carry on trying to make something, whilst I understand the size limits I have a question... is it possible that if I had something move on the car that went from point 'A' to point 'B' (for example a convertible top) and those two end points were inside of that size limit but getting to either point 'A' or 'B' would mean going outside of that size limit briefly would that be ok?
  22. fantastic!! so many options and space for body, interior etc
  23. good stuff everyone! worthy winners indeed. cant believe I got 4th! amazing the amount of time involved in building and filming etc is mad, even just on a small build like mine. putting up prizes for peeps to win almost each time is great thanks @Jim
  24. 9:10 4:6 16:4 18:3 1:2 7:1 Hard to assign points to just a few. 9. aesthetics and functions just came together for me. It just looked like a very complete package. 4. loved the outlandish build. would love to live my post apocalyptic world on there. 16. functions! And those rolled doors! 18. Dam, so much playability! 1. Details! 7. Looks fantastic can’t wait to see a normal taxi version.
