Thanks for the advise, I have now finished... Im surprised there is more like for the right one. I thought panels where the in thing, on average. I prefer the right one also so I may concentrate on that one now. It’s more scale accurate also. Either way though I don’t think I can do much better. It’s a good idea for a set, but just not sure I’ve done it justice... but still happy to finish it and keep it built on the shelf

I tried them and they look great on the buggy, but they are too large for the right scale to the original, and they look way too over sized on the Minifig unfortunately. Just finalising a few cosmetic details and deciding which buggy to use (Chassis are the same, 4WS independent susp front and rear). I know which I prefer, but I also know which would be more aligned to modern Technic builds. Tyres will be changed to the small xerion tyres. chassis's are all even to match original 8 and 16 studs wide and 24 studs long. Small bricklink order to be able to build in real.

I wasn’t sure about where you were going with this when I saw the cab but with the body as well I think it’s looking great! the original is on the top of my Technic to buy list when I have some spare money as I think the design is outstanding. I think your really bringing modern technic design to this

No way @Seasider that was never my intention I just wanted to clarify a few things cause of other builds that are scaled up and comments received and other ‘perfect’ examples shown of what a good entry would be. Never was my intention to whine either, I wouldn’t of really called it whining I know I’ll loose points from scaling up, it says that in my first post in my WIP. I just wanted to know whether my entry would still be valid so I don’t look like a stupid idiot for such an entry. And that didn’t backfire on me at all... Anyway, I had a cup of chamomile tea, yep, chamomile, didn’t need to take a cup of harden the !@#$ up. So back to building as I may get a couple hours tonight, not that I’m getting to far with the buggy as there aren’t many panels in LBG but anyway that’s a discussion for my WIP. I’ve already said too much and you know the saying, wise men speak when they have something to say, fools speak when they want to say something...

Ok so I realise this is a bit harsh From what has been said, in my interpretation, some entries may seem unfit for the voting, (such as mine which is scaled up 4 times!) But are still within the contest rules. Thats ok, The contests here are not started just to give prizes away, they are started to promote discussion and I’m happy to contribute with my build entry...Plus I think I’ve finished my input to this discussion even if it was a bit late I’ll just build now and leave the Jibba jabba.

So anyone who chosen a systems set, so far as I can tell, may as well not participate. It’s a shame as maybe the contest should have stipulated technic studded rebuild as that’s where the confines on the rules really take you. It’s also a shame as I thought the sysltems re builds were very interesting. It’s a shame that the scale is open yet you will have votes taken away for re scaling, kind of wasting some time for some builders. Anyway it’s not my argument just my opinion good luck to all.

I was! But just to make it clear, as re reading my post is not clear, but I am not against your build or anyone else’s build that might seem over scaled to others. My build is 4:1 so is also ‘over scaled’ To me there should be no scale limit period for this contest. what I was against is people potentially de motivating other builders. bigger isn’t always guaranteed more votes, check out TC13. but I agree we gotta build what we are motivated to build to have fun otherwise it ain’t fun whether it looks like it’s going to get votes or not.

There is some discussion about scale and eligibility for tc20 in WIP threads so maybe best to move it here. Perhaps this has come from a slightly ambiguous wording from the entry rules There is no scale limitation, but the closer the scale matches the original scale, the better. Try to stay as close to the original as possible its a bit late now but there should be either scale limitation or no scale limitation? also a bit ambiguous? True to the original This is probably easier for technic studded rebuilds but not the system entries? the entries are very varied which to be honest makes voting hard because for me the studded technic rebuilds can stay way closer to the rules But the system rebuilds are looking more interesting for me. Not to take anything away from technic rebuilds, but the interpretations of the systems sets is more diverse and perhaps what you would not expect to see. anyway, may be best to post stuff here rather than in individual WIP threads that may demotivate the builder.

I really like this one! (as with most of the builds you publish actually) and with those old LEGO tyres! thanks for instructions, I hope I can find time to build.

Thanks @Appie I hear you with the built face! But I’m not sure a face can be fitted in there with technic and retain the yellow. currently using the 3x3 L shape half lift arm with rounded support part 32249 stacked up. maybe with a more system build or with someone willing to spend a lot of time... hey @Seasider more than happy to share LDD file when it’s all finished etc. Just give us some honest feed back after you build it though . must look like a great collection!

So that last posted version was pretty bad so here is a much more accomplished version (I think) with 4WS, even though just one axle is shown. The other axle will be almost exactly the same. I may do away with any motor reference as it’s a bit too hard with these axles. regarding the outward design, I am thinking to round everything off instead of direct square copy to bring this 40+ year old set into the present, otherwise proportions are going well. Constructive criticism welcome

Thanks! I think Im finished on the minifig so on to the buggy. I’ve had to widen the vehicle track by 1 stud each side to enable steering without compromising the body. I have not used these steering bits before but it seems the links and the swing arms go together in official sets but it is strange that there is 1stud different lengths. I was hoping to have 4WS but I’m not sure I can fit that in such a small space with a reliable connection. another problem for me is trying to up the scale 4:1 creating even numbers to work with in a odd number system. the shocks may be too highly so may need to somehow relocate. Maybe try and hide them in the upright steering column if they are too high.

[TC20] 8848 Tipper Truck
MangaNOID replied to Seasider's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
much better with the narrowed bits! looks way more proportioned now. I'm liking the built bucket myself and think it fits as the original was built too. -
The trouble, I think, with choosing a systems build for this contest is the differing amount of interpretation to be had. This could be bad for voting. I like your model choice, but I don’t think you’ve given it the real HorcikDesigns finesse yet. If it was on the sales stand I would not buy it as it is. It’s not, ‘Technic’ enough (for me) I don’t mean functions as they seem well sorted! But the looks is too...Panel’d and too many liftarms to fill gaps. My feeling is that it needs a more open look/approach. Like an older styler technic model but with the modern bits of course. I don’t want to get too specific, but I hope this can be seen as constructive criticism

I got the legs walking by moving the head Also The legs can bend by hand to sit the minifig without the head moving. Exactly what I wanted. Should be a ‘gif’ below if I uploaded right. Good going on the design front (well for my liking anyway, It may be a hard sell to get votes) sorry it’s mostly LDD so far. I’m going to make a big BL order for all this white. Taking care to only use current parts that come in white that are easy to get locally. Just the arms To go really and a few bits to tidy up then maybe on to the buggy.

[TC20] Indy transport, set 6335
MangaNOID replied to mpj's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is looking good. I am definitely partial to the system rebuilds at the moment, they are very interesting. I like the Technic airhorns on the top! Is the seat colour staying? Could the ‘A’ pillars be blue? Just questions, not nitpicking -
Wow, thanks for the inspiring comments everyone! I thought maybe I’m going in a wrong, to far out direction but a bit more inspired now. not that much more progress for now but working on two options for the megafig is, keep it going as above or add a Proper function to it. I know this is not too encouraged for this contest but this is technic I am trying at the moment to make it so when you turn the head to the right the left leg extends. Turn head left, right leg extends, so you can Essentially walk it along. But then also fold both legs up so it can sit on the buggy. Few problems to solve but it could be getting their. No pics this time sorry.

[TC20] 5982 Smash 'n' Grab
MangaNOID replied to kubic's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I like where this is going so far and love the scale! A perfect set for this contest. Get this build right and it will get some good votes I say. -
here is my attempt at recreating space Lego 886, probably one of the smaller sets. a favorite of mine as a kid. Scaled up 4:1 which is a little challenging for modern Technic builds but it allowed me to use these wheels and tyres and to use the usual Technic steering wheel adding functions to the space vehicle such as steering and suspensions and probably a small fake electric motor. maybe i'll loose points for too much scaling and functions added but this is a fun build anyway! Trying to replicate all movements of the minifigure. so far so good with the legs. Hopefully I can build it so the minifigure disassembles like real minifigs do.

Generic Contest Discussion
MangaNOID replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don’t think that the studless rebuild contest would work without open scale? Might be a bit too limiting? and adding functions is the core of technic, maybe Not core of this type of contest of course as recognisability seems the main goal? but no point building a city car into technic if it only will have rolling wheels like most city cars do.
