Hi everyone! I have been building up to tackling a 'Blockade Runner' CR90 Corvette for over a year, MOCs this size are definitely not my strong point so my thanks go to community members Bruxxy and MasterBrickSeparator for their help. First things first, here's a render of both the Tantive IV and Liberator colour schemes, there are more on my Flickr page and should any of you be interested the instructions for both colour schemes are available on Rebrickable. I can hear a lot of you screaming at your screens "Its not micro!" and I admit you're probably right, the build is 59cm long and weighs 1.6kg which is similar to the Tantive IV set 75244 from 2019. It is however the same scale (1:250) as the rest of my little fleet of ships so I feel like I couldn't not slip micro into the title. I've tried my best to make the exterior as accurate as possible, I began by dividing and measuring the obvious sections and designing them seperately in Studio, then connecting them to a Technic frame. I started with the cockpit and worked backwards, although I nearly gave up there as getting the shape right whilst leaving space for an bridge was a nightmare, the modular nature of the ship made building the rest much easier though. The central fins also proved difficult, they are the most fragile part of the ship and can be easily knocked out of position, but very luckily they fit around the cylindrical core well enough to look pretty accurate. The fins also make the ship harder to pick up, two hands are required to lift the ship off a surface until you can hold the stand in one hand. I'll keep working on his aspect in case a stronger solution is possible, I would really love it if I could make the ship one-handedly swooshable. Fininishing with the engines I came across a new challenge, how to build the 11 thrusters with enough detail but not so much that they would cost a fortune in small pieces. The structural frame is very strong, its probably overengineered but I'm pleased with how solid the build feels as the strength was a complete unknown to me whilst designing in Studio. Best of all the frame allows for a tiny interior, sadly its not 1:250 scale (Lego pieces only go so small!) but it does give the MOC some extra playability and character. The roof can be removed in two sections to expose the cockpit, the upper deck and top gunner position, a central corridor running the length of the ship and the docking areas near the rear side pods. The upper deck can also be removed to reveal the main deck's conference room, side engineering corridors and micro escape pods, which are also all removable. At the end of the project I especially enjoyed adding a little 4-stud tall crew, each little stack of round plates is probably unreconisable individually but I think that when they're seen together with the ship they really come to life! Whilst putting together the instructions for both colours I decided that I wanted to build the Liberator from Star Wars Rebels. I've been rewatching the show and I have to admit that after seeing the ship in action repeatedly in season 2 I feel that its far more exciting than the Tantive IV! I'd love to take more photos of the Liberator with my other micro ships but at the moment I don't have the equipment, skill or enough micro A-Wings to do a decent job, but I'm working on it. Here's a few photos showing the Liberator along with my micro Ghost and X-Wing, plus the interior. You can see more in my Flickr album. I've tried to balance detail and cost, so apart from a few rare colours for the Rebels crew the 1900ish parts are all common and each of the ship colour schemes will cost roughly £/€/$150 to build. I know that the Blockade Runner has been recreated in Lego many times, both by Lego themselves and the community, but I've tried to make something with a few unique features that is hopefully a worthwhile addition to the roster. Thanks for taking the time to look :)

Amazing work with this, I’ve also been following progress on Instagram, it’s been a real joy to see it develop! It’s a lot of fun watching it plod along, well done!

@Mandalorianknight thanks so much for the suggestion, I have a spare U-Wing pilot so that’s ideal! Much appreciated.

Hi everyone, I recently picked up this Anakin Skywalker from the 2018 Jedi Starfighter set 75214. I prefer his Clone Wars outfit to the recent Episode 3 style (I don’t like the burn marks) but I’d like to replace his Gold Headset style head with a regular one. The obvious choice would be the head from the 2020 sets, but neither are available in the UK on Bricklink, I was thinking of using this common head but do any of you have a better suggestion? Thanks

Here’s some photos of my Razor Crest modifications, Instructions are up on Rebrickable. I’m in the process of strengthening and simplifying some of the mod, a couple of the pieces I used turned out to be rare-ish, oops! The mod features new engine intakes, engine exhausts, folding landing gear, a new nose and a lot of gap filling. All of it is easy to add to the finished Crest, I do my best to avoid a lot of rebuilding.

I haven’t built the set for myself yet but did some modifications and colour changes in Studio. It’s supposed to be a cheap mod but I think the rear end could do with being rebuilt so that it’s less chunky, I might try that one day. I also did some instructions and shared the Studio model, added them to my 75218 X-Wing mod page, just scroll to the bottom.

I sympathise, it’s certainly frustrating to get all these repeated sets, but when you see the rate Lego discontinue old sets their strategy makes sense. We’ve had about a billion X-Wings, one is retired before the next is released, and half a billion Falcons but similarly, only one available at a time (excluding the UCS set). For kids who are getting their first Star Wars sets in 2021 there’s pretty good availability of iconic ships, so I’m pleased that we have another Falcon, my 5 year old daughters can have one! My only complaint is the number of vehicles in the series, I’d prefer 6 individual sets rather than the 1 and 1 double, if nothing else that ensures each set is equally cheap.

[MOC][Instructions] Micro Star Wars Starship Collection
mcphatty replied to mcphatty's topic in LEGO Star Wars
@obijon Thanks you! No I don’t think I’ll bother with lights, I’d like to get a kit for my Tron set first as that seems the perfect candidate for glowing, I might do more if that turns out well and not too expensive. And thanks for the Kubrikkian speeder suggestion, I’ll admit I rushed it when I got frustrated so I’ll try to get the proportions better, Christ Deck’s does look good! @Mandalorianknight Thanks to you too and I’m glad you like the obscure stuff, there’s more of that to come before I tackle my big nemesis... the Tantive- 36 replies

[MOC][Instructions] Micro Star Wars Starship Collection
mcphatty replied to mcphatty's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The Mos Eisley Cantina set is awesome, but too big, so I put together a micro scale version. The buildings connect together to make it one A5 sized display, or can be detached and opened out like the real thing! I hope to get all the parts together by Christmas, in the mean tim here are some Studio renders.- 36 replies

@MAG85 I haven’t been able to test it for real yet but I think the panels will open to about 80 degrees (where 90 is straight out to the sides), but the ship will need to be held for this. I did try connecting some runners to technic plates which pushed against the sides of bricks, similar to my mod, and the one runner held quite a few books before it broke off so I’m fairly confident it will work, but I guess I’ll have to wait until someone tries it for real to know for sure :) @macaron35 thanks very much! I’m good at talking about interior mods and bad at following through, I’ll do my best to actually try this one... at some point haha

I’ve been working on my own improvements, I haven’t built them for real yet (my kids are getting me the set for Christmas!) and haven’t tackled the interior but the exterior is all done. In summary, the nose area is all new, so are the engine intakes, the engine exhaust is a bit longer and shapelier, I’ve swapped some dark grey for light, moved the guns up by one stud, filled lots of gaps and tinkered with the landing gear so it folds away. I’ve avoided messing with the structure so the modifications should be very easy to do. I’ve also put together some instructions, broken down into chunks for each modified area. Hope they’re of use to someone :) https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-55814/ron_mcphatty/razor-crest-set-75292-mod

[MOC][Instructions] Micro Star Wars Starship Collection
mcphatty replied to mcphatty's topic in LEGO Star Wars
It’s been much slower progress over the last two months, I’ve done some mod instructions as well as two more micro builds, the Otana and the Ebon Hawk! I’ve just realised that I never took photos of the Otana, oops, I’ll update these when I can. As always, the instructions are all here. The Otana is from the absolute classic X-Wing Alliance, if you’ve been enjoying Squadrons and have never discovered Alliance then it’s absolutely worth picking up this gem on Steam! The Ebon Hawk is Darth Revan’s gunship from the Knights of the Old Republic games. I think it might be the ‘oldest’ character ship in the entire Star Wars canon, predating everything by thousands of years. And lastly for a bit of fun, something I did in the run up to Star Wars Squadrons releasing and a render of eeeverything!- 36 replies

Galaxy's Edge: Millennium Falcon Smuggler's Run
mcphatty replied to evanridpath's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Absolutely stunning, the building and rock slopes are excellent and even with just a few figures in there you’ve brought the scene to life brilliantly! It’s the perfect way to display the Falcon, great job :) -
Great mods, your X-Wing’s looking excellent! The engines look much improved and the curved nose is great, I’m gonna have to see how that looks on mine :)
-
Good ideas and great mods so far, the dark grey stripe in the middle of the nose is a good place to start for everyone I think and the rest of your suggestions are good! There’s plenty of space for some surface detail on those big triangular wedge plates at the back, I think I’ll be nodding them too. Haven’t tried it yet but the engine gaps look like they could be closed up by alternating 1 and 2 stud wide curved slopes.

[MOC][Instructions] Micro Star Wars Starship Collection
mcphatty replied to mcphatty's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I felt unsure of doing constant posts over the summer but since I've just reached a personal milestone and finished my micro Ghost I thought I'd do a catch up post. Since Home One I've added micro versions of the Darth Vader's Castle, Droid Escape and Assault on Hoth sets to my little collection. After them came a few of the unique ships from Galaxy's Edge (Resistance I-TS, TIE Echelon, Utilipede Transport, First Order Fleet Transport, Resistance X-Wing and A-Wings), a TIE Reaper and TIE Striker from Rogue One, unique and recoloured ships from Star Wars Rebels (Blade Wing, Ryder's U-Wing, Hera's X-Wing, Miners Guild TIE Fighter, TIE Defender, Mandalorian Fang Fighter and an R-22 Spearhead) and finally the Ghost and Phantom. I've updated the first post in this thread with links, photos and renders (where I haven't built the ships yet), plus some updated photos, but here are a few extra rebders and pictures of my latest. Instructions for all of them are on Rebrickable... https://rebrickable.com/users/ron_mcphatty/mocs/ I've got a list of ships to add to the pile like the Rogue Shadow, Ebon Hawk, Mantis and Otana, but if you've got any suggestions or ideas for improving wha I've already done then I'm all ears. I hope you like these little ships though, they've been a lot of fun to put together :)- 36 replies

[MOC] #66 Star Wars 501st Legion Attack Dropship
mcphatty replied to bricksboy's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That video was extremely impressive, stop motion using renders is so effective at showing the ship off, the sound added a lot and the little story was very funny! The instructions were great too, very nice job. It would be good to have access to them in PDF form too, If you’re not already familiar with Rebrickable.com then have a look and definitely join the community there. The ship looks great too, very faithful to the source, great job :)- 6 replies

Excellent work as usual. I really love the Bongo, it’s great to see it in your collection! -
@youreabrick, glad you’re reassured and can enjoy the set now! Just watched the video and I recognise the weird labelling. Have fun with the build!
-
I built my 75257 Falcon last week, from what I remember the bags look correct! There are a lot of tan and dark tan pieces for the interior, there were definitely two bags with the black/white numbers that look different (one of them could have been ‘5’). There were two of a couple numbers as you’ve got, I guess this is because there are too many pieces to squeeze them all in one bag, it’s common in bigger sets. I think you have all the right stuff and would suggest keeping hold of the picture and building it! If you have any missing or incorrect pieces you can always contact Lego directly, they are able to provide whole spare bags of parts if necessary. One other way to check would be to look at a few unboxing or speed build videos on YouTube, they sometimes show the box being emptied so you may be able to check someone else’s bags compared to what you have? I’m still sure yours is fine :) Here’s a clear looking unboxing video, haven’t got time to check it for you but worth a look! https://youtu.be/GQA_Kt2B2ys
-
I love the shaping and detail around the front end and engines, the rest is very impressive too. The small bits of greebling in the mostly smooth panels are a nice touch, well done it’s a great MOC!
