@Midlife-crisis Absolutely stunning work, you’ve really made this ship your own! The details are probably the best around, I think they’re significantly better than the one you were originally basing your design on. The rounded ‘nose’ and dorsal shaping are very good, I love the embedded greebling on top, the engines are more or less perfect and in particular your cockpit is the best solution I’ve seen so far. I’ve never seen tubes and minifigure hands used like this before, it’s really really clever and the overall shape is spot on. The details really steal the show and almost detract from your hull, which is also excellent, those big angled sections connecting so neatly look very impressive. If I’m honest I hadn’t checked your updates in a couple of months and I regret not catching up earlier, especially since I’ve been working on a micro Razor Crest and over the last couple of hours your build has helped me correct the proportions of mine, so thank you! Great work :)

That last one is a beauty, I love the clouds and sunset! Really looking forward to the trench run now.

Wow, these are really impressive. The shaping is perfect and the under-construction areas of the DS2 are very, very good. I can’t believe it has an interior though and that you can squeeze minifigures in there. Well done, excellent work! Oh and in response to your Flickr message (sorry, it won’t let me reply) I’d be very interested in a guide or instructions for these and your Rogue Shadow. I see you’re planning your own website, I would suggest putting your instructions on Rebrickable too, they charge a fee on each sale but make the selling process very easy.

It’s not exactly the scale you want but this one (1:125) by aolaughlin is incredible and has an interior! https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-31692/aolaughlin/yt1300-millenniumfalcon-1125-scale/#info

Great work, another triumph for the mini fleet! I like how you’ve done the shape of the hull, the official set is far too focused on the ball, the rest of the shape is definitely more interesting.

These are lovely, you’ve definitely put your own stamp these ships whilst keeping true to their origins, super work! I particularly like the sleek X-Wings and the YU-Wing hybrid. And lots of SNOT, I’m not usually a fan but it looks great here.

Excellent work, this is such a beautiful MOC and very faithful to the source. You’ve blended the round and cone parts into the hull so well and the shaping is spot on. Well done!

Just a quick update to say I’ve finished this one, built it, and popped some instructions up on Rebrickable! https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-35630/ron_mcphatty/micro-virago/#info Shes a big old ship! Roughly to scale with the rest of my micro builds this is the largest I’ve built so far, a bit bigger than the Falcon thanks to those huge ‘wings’. She has a landing mode too with the guns folding back, more or less as they did in the game. The Outrider is in the works (I promise), for now though I’m sinking my teeth into more mod instructions.

@LEGODrongo01 Thanks. And I forgot to write in your thread that your black X-Wing looks great! I’ve been messaging every seller that has those round brick engine parts trying to get some for my old black X-Wing, they’re not easy to come by. I’m not sure yet if I want to mod my old X-Wing or rebuild it as a recolour like yours, did you need many new parts for your project?

Here’s my attempt at modifying Poe Dameron’s X-Wing from The Rise of Skywalker! I think Lego did a great job with this latest X-Wing, I really like the refined wing mechanism and orange/white patterns and I love the new engines, but when viewed from above or the side that boxy nose is no good and the barely offset wings obviously need sorting out. I also put together some instructions, more on them later... https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-35800/ron_mcphatty/mod-poe-damerons-x-wing-t-70-set-75273-mod/#info Rather than adding the same removable lid from my last X-Wing mod I instead built a hinged hatch, it’s a much simpler mod to build in and to use too. I took that landing axle out when first building the set but if you like that play feature then the wing mechanism still works with it left in. The main modifications are the rebuilt wings, I stripped them back to the engine structure and attempted to make them close in a 100% movie-accurate way. That didn’t pan out so well, the connection of the lower wing to the body was always too weak, so I settled for them overlapping by one plate to balance strength, limit the number of extra pieces and also to keep those blue accents in. I also tried modding the sides of nose, adding a line of tiles on modified bricks to bring the width out a bit. I added some extra plates on top too, hopefully giving the impression of the gentle slope towards the nose. I built in some very simple landing gear and details to the end of the lasers, and that’s it! Overall I used more pieces than I’d’ve liked, about 80, but they’re all common parts and the cost is fairly low at about £5. I’m really enjoying using Stud.io, even the instructions feature. Clear mod instructions are much harder than from-scratch instructions, this time I’ve tried to incorporate references to steps in the original instructions for clarity and completeness. I’m hoping the familiar chunks will help you easily see where my mods start and finish so that stripping back the original set is an easy job. https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-35800/ron_mcphatty/mod-poe-damerons-x-wing-t-70-set-75273-mod/#info I’m always happy to get criticism and suggestions and very grateful if you point out any mistakes in the instructions! I plan to do instructions for my old 75218 X-Wing mod next and then, taking inspiration from @LEGODrongo01’s recent 75213 recolour, apply these mods and new engines to Poe’s old black X-Wing! My old set might need a good dust first, I can hardly believe that came out five years ago now. I hope you guys like the mods, and just for fun here’s Poe and a micro X-Wing :D

@r5-j2 Thanks! The ship and figure idea is a good one but someone around here is already excellent at that, I don’t want to step on his toes! I’m also clueless when it comes to customising minifigures, but I’ve been trying to do micro figures out of round 1x1 studs for each build. Sadly 1x1s don’t come in as many colours as you think, often a good colour like dark blue for Han’s Trousers is so rare that the stud would cost £2-3, the Falcon only costs about £40 to build and the Starfighters about £6 so for now that idea is on the back burner.

[MOC] Micro Imperial TIE Fighter, Interceptor, Bomber and Advanced
mcphatty replied to mcphatty's topic in LEGO Star Wars
@Rubblemaker Thanks! Those wings have been held together so many different and ugly ways over the last year, it was only last week I tried the hinge brick and brackets. It’s the lesser of many evils, what I’d really love is this part but without the stud end, one day maybe. -
Here are some simple micro TIE Fighters, hopefully useful for a bit of fleet building! They’re cheap and frail (much like the real thing) and I think I’ve got the scale just about right to match the rest of my micro builds. As usual, instructions over on Rebrickable... https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-35570/ron_mcphatty/micro-imperial-tie-fighters/ I stupidly missed the Bomber and Advanced wing 2x2 wedge pieces off my order so for now here’s a picture of the TIE Fighter and Interceptor. I had some fun with the wing connections on the Interceptor, the plates that make up the wing hinge clamp onto the modified tile ‘clip’ piece pretty firmly, but don’t actually *click*. It’s okay for display but I’m sure some would argue that it’s an illegal connection! I’ll add more photos as the parts arrive and hopefully build some more TIEs too, the more the merrier, right?
-
@Rubblemaker I love it! It’s all superb and those missiles are the icing on the cake :)
-
@obijon Thanks mate. Slave 1 was really tough to get the scale right, she’s probably 10-20% too big here but I didn’t know how to reduce the size, I was stuck with the cockpit being either 1 or 2 studs wide really. I’ll take the ‘on-steroids’ as a glowing review though, much appreciated :) @Rubblemaker You’re right, I really do need to jump on the LAAT bandwagon, I can’t believe how it dominated the vote. Good news for your Nebulon though!
-
@Rubblemaker I look forward to seeing more of your Classic Space stuff! I had a quick look through your Flikr, I love Benny’s separator ship and your lighting and photography are so good. I’ll have a good look through everything you’ve done tonight. Update: I’ve added extra instructions for Jango’s version of Slave 1 and, because you could’ve easily done the recolour yourself, a bonus Delta 7 Jedi Starfighter :)
-
@Rubblemaker I like your tiny Falcon, it inspired me to try (again) to do one that small, but it’s not easy is it! I keep getting the body right but the cockpit is a huge pain. And the bundle thing is a good idea, maybe when I’ve got enough from an era I could do a bundle like that? I’ll have a think about it when I’ve pumped out enough instructions to justify it, thanks! @Gremer2 The small, short-winged U-Wing? That’s Ryder’s ship from Rebels! I’m not sure I got the colour right but since I was enjoying the show so much I couldn’t resist quickly adapting what I’d already built. One day I’ll have to do The Ghost, but that seems like a very big project. Also, here’s a quick picture of the collection so far (IRL) that I took today...
-
@Rubblemaker Thanks so much! I did some maths on a Nebulon B to go with this lot and it came out around 3 times the size of yours... I think I’ll be sticking to smaller ships.
-
@Kristof I agree, I loved doing the renders and never really planned to build the micros until I finished the Falcon and the photos are way more satisfying! And thanks :) I quite like this recent render of the whole collection though, I recently started bunching the Starfighters for convenience. The works in progress mostly to the front, completed projects to the back...

Carrying on the series of micro Star Wars ships (with the scale based on the Millennium Falcon Microfighter cockpit piece) here is Boba Fett’s Slave 1! I struggled for a while to get the cockpit right, it’s been too ‘tall’ and then too ‘low’ and it’s probably still ok the low side but the overall look is okay, so I’m calling it a day. As ever, the instructions are available over on Rebrickable: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-35304/ron_mcphatty/micro-slave-1/ I’m trying my best to limit the number of expensive and discontinued pieces, the number of dark red wedge plates and slopes bumps the price up a bit but the real killers are those dark green macaroni bricks. They’re not particular expensive but seem to be rare and the availability of new pieces is poor, so if anyone can suggest a good alternative I’d be very grateful. I was surprised how big this ship came out, I never really appreciated the scale of the Slave 1 in the films but she’s nearly as big as the Falcon! Thats another one ticked off the list. I’m close to finishing everything I had in progress, the Virago and OT Tie Fighter variants, I’m looking forward to starting fresh on the next batch which will include the Outrider, Naboo Royal Starship and Tantive IV, which is the biggest I’m prepared to try at this scale! All suggestions for more ships are much appreciated :)

I’m really enjoying seeing this unfold! Right now I’m having a Peter Griffin moment in anticipation of the next scene, dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun dun-dun-dah-dah...

[MOC] Micro Moldy Crow from the Dark Forces series
mcphatty replied to mcphatty's topic in LEGO Star Wars
@Kristof thanks! I know what you mean about the wing connections, they look very weak, however the modified brick that the black bar-plates fit into has hollow holes, the bars go all the way through the holes and touch in the middle of the brick. The connection is actually stronger than the modified brick’s connection to the main body. I’ll try to do a render later to illustrate the point, but if you were thinking of building it then you won’t have to worry :) -
[MOC] Dark Side, Light side, only a matter of point of view
mcphatty replied to Veynom's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Very clever and really well done! I love how the moral ambiguity has been developed over the years and what a great way to highlight it. You could assume the Rebels were goodness personified but from a certain point of view they were really terrorists and the Jedi and New Republic army were being manipulated into fighting by the Sith. The more I think about it the more I like your MOC! -
Here’s another micro build, this time it’s Kyle Katarn’s Moldy Crow along with instructions. She’s not the most attractive ship but back in the 90’s the long, pointy shape was a bit more appealing to me than the other round and body designs. I’ve since seen the light, of course my favourite is the Falcon now :) Reddish brown has been the least appealing colour I’ve built with, especially because the available pieces are a bit limited, but I think it came out okay. I’ve got two more ships almost finished and a pile of pieces on order to build them with. As much as I love messing around in Stud.io I’m now looking forward to getting a bunch of my micros together for a photo, and with any luck that’ll include Slave 1 this week.

[MF-MOD] "I've added some special modifications myself"
mcphatty replied to DarthTwoShedsJackson's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That’s a thing of beauty, well done! I love the clean lines and solid look, the UCS model is incredible but this is a clear step up. I really like the battle damage and holes in the rear of the hull, you’ve done those perfectly, and the top of the hull looks pleasingly smooth. I’m looking forward to seeing your interior :)
