  1. He’s done a good job! I guess there’s some modified bricks in there for the tile to hang on to? Time to have another play with the X-Wing! How’s your mod coming along?
  2. Edit: My last Bricklink order arrives today so here she is for real! I’m still working a few kinks out, most significantly the mandible area is a bit weak and build onto fairly rare wedge plates. Instructions and a Stud.io model to follow, hope you like it! Original post: I’ve been trying to improve the scale and detail on my old mini Falcon for some time whilst keeping my silly studs-out on the top and bottom surfaces design. Eventually my moc became so big that I began to think I could squeeze in a micro scale interior... With that self-inflicted gauntlet laid down I started down a path that led to this! The main proportions are not far off being to scale, with that micro fighter cockpit as the starting point. The surface details are more visual cues than scaled features but I’m really pleased with the overall look, the many wedge plates give a decent round effect, the mandibles blend with the body well and the cockpit tunnel looks pretty good (though any suggestions to improve the ugly gap behind the cockpit will be welcome!) And I’m really, really pleased with this: They have tiny, tiny, unnecessarily tiny insides!! Hopefully some iconic features are recognisable and roughly in the right place, the Dejarik table was pretty much the centre of this whole effort but I’ve been sure to squeeze in an engine room, a bunk, a computer terminal and as many smuggled goods as the possible. Less in Lando’s Falcon of course, he has a bar instead. The rarer colours and my reckless use of small wedge pieces make this an expensive build, I’ll be working on simplifying what I can to bring the cost down and I will share instructions and the Stud.io model at some point! Lando’s Falcon is sadly a massive cheat, the cockpit and a couple of other important parts don’t come in white, but it’s such a cool spin on the ship that I couldn’t resist rendering it. Any criticisms and suggestions are welcome! I’ve never done instructions before but I’m going give it a go in the near future. Hope you guys like it :)
  3. Another beautiful moc, well done! The details are spot on and the photography is excellent as usual. What’s next?
  4. Great work! You’ve crammed in much more detail than the official set, I like how the wings look sleek and solid, the engine details are great and the cockpit interior is particularly nice. It’s a shame there’s no suitable alternate trans windscreen pieces at this scale, that Lego piece is okay but I’ve never been a fan of their four 1x2 trans red tiles at the front. Did you try anything else to improve the shaping in that area? I settled on this, it’s not movie accurate by a long shot but at a glance a bit more pleasing than the original build.
  5. That thing is spectacular! The shaping is very impressive, particularly around the opening cockpit. I love the interior sections too, it’s great that you could include those and keep the strength in such a large build. Great work and happy birthday!
  6. Thanks so much guys! Good to hear you like the cockpit, that was my starting point, coming across another moc using similar pieces helped a lot. I’m working on a ‘properly’ scaled Millennium Falcon plus some other ships at the moment and I’m struggling to keep it to myself, so here’s a teaser...
  7. Thanks for linking to my mods LegoDrongo! I was wondering how to fill that gap in the engines, without rebuilding anyway. Jerac suggested adding an extra cylinder to the engines to better match their length in the real ship (hah, real) and that’s a great quick fix as the bigger size draws your eye away from the gap. Your mods look great, keep going, it’s a beautiful set but looks amazing when you tidy up the obvious eyesores :)
  8. Thanks mate! Yeah I was thinking of your minis when I started this, I began with the cockpit and after settling on the roof tilepieces they really dictated the overall scale. Mine is roughly the right size to go with my other mini mocs scaled around the Microfighter Falcon cockpit and any fighters that use a 1x1 slope as a cockpit so I’m very happy. I’m sure you could get the wings detailed enough at your scale with perhaps some utensil or weapon pieces?
  9. Brilliant, so many great details! I think at this overall scale the size of the individual parts doesn’t matter, what’s important is making it all recognisable and you’ve nailed that :) Oh and the micro Ghost is too cute, I want one!
  10. Thanks! And me too, they were the foundation of my love for Star Wars growing up. I’ve got mini builds of the Mouldy Crow and Ebon Hawk in the works and I need to revisit my Falcon and Outrider to improve the proportions. After that I want to do a mini Rogue Shadow too but I’m sure I’m missing some classics, got any suggestions?
  11. Update: I’ve finished this one and added it to my micro fleet, instructions are here for anyone who might be interested... https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-35630/ron_mcphatty/micro-virago/#info Original post: I’ve loved the unusual look of this ship since I first saw a friend’s toy as a kid, and then got to play the game! I always thought it looked out of place in the Star Wars universe though, it reminds me more of Babylon 5 or even Star Trek. Anyway, here’s my mini version, it was tough to get a curve into the wings without adding lots of extra layers but I’m pleased with the shaping, also I may come back to this and make the guns rotate backwards like in the old game cutscenes but for now they’re fixed. I hope you enjoy it, all criticism is welcome and just in case anyone’s interested there’s a Bricklink link for parts and the model below. https://www.bricklink.com/v3/studio/design.page?idModel=74163
  12. Hi all. Since messing around with the cheap and easy Stud.io I’ve started to enjoy mocking up Brickheadz. Here’s Red and Transistor from the brilliant game... I got a few really nice comments on Reddit for it and one guy (u/dblester) even Bricklinked the parts, which would've been expensive (rare colours) and needs a couple of trans studs to support the sword but otherwise came out great... One noticable omission there is the quarter tile in her fringe, it’s not available in Dark Red yet but I left it in the build just in case, it’s got to at some point right? Hope you guys like it, below is a link for the parts list and model, any suggestions or criticisms are welcome :) https://studio.bricklink.com/v2/build/model.page?idModel=71201
  13. I’m really sorry, had some trouble with Imgur and deleted the album, all fixed now!
  14. Strength is the best starting point I think, these are fundamentally toys and although some Mocs like Intherts are work of art they’re rarely practical for the rest of us to reproduce or store. And I liked the 75211 Tie originally but I’m now really pleased with how it looks after a few changes. Those strange Minecraft pentagonal pieces either side of the cockpit are a good example of not ordinary pieces, totally pointless and probably hurt sales. Thanks for the compliments, always nice to hear that a mod works well!
  15. This looks brilliant, in fact all your Ties look brilliant, I think you’ve done an even better job than Jerac! You’ve struck a very good balance between SNOT, detail, simplicity and strength, they all look rock solid. I especially like your choice of pieces for shaping on the front and back faces of the ball, those new corner-cut pieces are perfect. Hope you don’t mind but I saw that shaping last year and copied some of it to improve my Solo Tie Fighter. I’ve been trying to limit my mods to surface pieces and this really helped turn the Tie from a good set to one of my favourites, so thanks :)
  16. Thanks! Big thanks to Jerac and Richpepperall for the engine advice. And yep, I’ll take the walk of fire!
  17. Thanks for the pointers about the engines! Just finished adding to my own and they look so much better, it’s a fairly easy addition but illegal with the black pins I’ve used to hold my grey cylinders straight. Ah well, take me to court!
  18. That’s a beautiful build, very clever making it hollow too! Have you got any plans to do an interior? Your style of building looks like it would suit a Lego retail model, copying the Falcon style for the rear body is a great move, if it’s strong enough to be played with I think you should submit it to Lego Ideas. Great work!
  19. Thanks bud! Those gaps in the bar within the cylinder are such a weird shape it took me a while to work out which piece fit snugly, your post got me to the finish line. Just Bricklinked the parts, looking forward to having proper engines. Great stand by the way!
  20. Wow, that’s perfect! I’m definitely doing that too, brilliant job. How do the grey front jnstakes stay straight, just friction?
  21. Lfm55, you’re welcome! And I really like your mod, the engines look superb! I’m trying to keep my own mods simple though, surface additions only where I can, whatever is easiest to replicate from simple photos.
  22. Yep, you’ve got two choices: 6120 https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=6120&name=Minifigure, Utensil Ski with Hinge&category=[Minifigure, Utensil]#T=C and... 99774 https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=99774&name=Minifigure, Utensil Ski without Hinge&category=[Minifigure, Utensil]#T=C Both have one stud exposed so you can add a modified 1x1 plate with clip!
  23. I see what you mean about the engines. We deliberately didn’t do research for the mod, it was mostly about fixing the lever and avoiding any structural rebuild or expensive parts. Now you’ve mentioned it I’ll think hard about the engines, if there’s a simple and strong fix I’ll do it! The set is far from perfect but despite shortcomings like the engines I think it captures the look of the X-Wing really well.
  24. Update: The finished MOD along with instructions and parts list, all on Rebrickable, with new photos to follow... https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-36569/ron_mcphatty/red-5-x-wing-t-65-set-75218-mod Thanks for your help guys! Original post- My kids bought me the new X-Wing for Christmas, they’re the best! I’ve wanted one in Lego form since I was a kid and hung on to the idea of a new set since I got back into Lego five years ago. Initially I was disappointed with how this set looked due to that ugly lever on top and similarities to Poe’s X-Wing. However, I recently saw a friend’s set and between us we worked out a few easy mods to improve things on a budget. Starting at the front we added a few plates to the nose to combat how flat the top looks, then added dishes and pins to the laser tips, also replacing the blue pins inside the roots with with black pins plus 4L lightsaber bars to reduce wobble. We added landing gear and a couple of modified plates either side of R2 to box him in. Most significantly took part of the S-Fool lever off and added a removable lid with some detail. I was thinking of adding internal gears connecting to a handle at the back but I really like that rear greebling so for now the lid comes off to to open and close the S-Foils. (Edit: I also added the extra cylinder length to the engines, thanks to Richpepperell for the design and Jerac for the suggestion) Bricklinking the extra parts costed about £6 including delivery, the skids for the landing gear weren’t common but cheap enough as used parts. Hope you like it and happy modding in 2019!
  25. Great review! I’m tempted by the set but not sure, it’s a shame that the fourth figure isn’t an accurately modelled Syen but good to know in advance, at least it’s easy to swap the head and hair parts.
