I recently did a (strictly non-scientific) test to see the real-life difference between the battery boxes and the alkaline batteries versus the rechargeable ones. Based on that I would not recommend Lego's rechargeable battery box, you can get 6 rechargeable AAA's and the AAA battery box for a fraction of the cost and you get the same performance. There's also not much difference between the AA and the AAA battery box, you should not worry about the weight difference. Whichever fits better in the model should be fine. Here's my comparison if you're interested:

I decided to make this set RC using the PF parts from 42065 - it's small enough to be powered by an M motor and I wanted to try a simple return to center steering with the other M motor. I'm happy with the result, it drives pretty well and I managed to squeeze in the IR receiver and the AA Battery Box without bigger modifications. The only victims of the mod are the orange traffic cones and the steering wheel - there was no way to include them. Here's a video with a little stop motion fun included: You can find more images & info in my blog post.

@Didumos69 I've been using several models with 2 BuWizz units (both 1.0 and 2.0) and didn't experience similar disconnects for one of the units. With the official app it's sometimes difficult to connect to 2 units and it disconnects easily when they get out of range but not something like you described. I'd suggest to test with the Brickcontroller app and see if you have the same issue. Based on my experience it has a higher success rate at connecting and it can reconnect by itself if the connection is lost due to distance.

It appears to be an accidental double entry, I think the entry that has only "tara" as a description should be simply deleted. They both point to the same video.

[REVIEW] 42077: Rally Car
kbalage replied to Milan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Working steering wheel is a cool and visible feature, AWD adds to the wow factor maybe, but I'm a bit sceptical about the gearbox in non-motorized sets. It makes the model more complicated but does not really improve playability. You shift gears and the engine runs a bit faster, hooray :) -

This set is a great opportunity for motorization, even 4 L motors fit without removing any of the interior elements. It would have been cool to see the fans working out of the box, not that difficult to achieve. Otherwise it's a big flashy car with a reasonable price so I'm sure kids dig it :) -
42083 - Bugatti Chiron
kbalage replied to Jurss's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm 99% sure it won't be motorized officially. I reserve that 1% for some Power Functions options like controlling the rear wing, but it won't be driving/steering for sure. Lego does not have a viable option at the moment to power a car at this size and weight. -
[REVIEW] 42075: First Responder

Thanks for the review, I liked this set very much. Great starter set with a good amount of functions for it's size. I was a bit confused with the B model (Race car with a winch?), but if the kids like it then fine :) The only disappointment was the fact that a different piece holds the string for the winch in the A and the B model, which means the string has to be cut every time it is rebuilt. -
That's another masterpiece in your collection, congrats :) Love all the functions and especially the attention to details. I really like how you used the Osmo, almost considering not selling mine :D Frequent refocusing is still visible though... One small suggestion - it's better to turn off AF on your camera when you shoot in the dark, it will prevent focus hunting (it's very visible when you demonstrate the truck's lights).

@Thirdwigg Thank you! There's nothing special there, I assume it can be done in multiple ways, possibly in a more elegant way as well :) The steering goes right above the differential with the steering rack sitting on top of the 5x7 frame: @Void_S there are no huge secrets, I don't think that sharing some parts of the solution would hurt. The Servo sits between the seats, the two L motors are in front of the seats on the "floor" and connected to the differential. Batteries are placed on the two sides between the door and the seat. Due to this the only non-functional pieces are the doors when the batteries are installed, they have to be removed instead of opening. The roll cage had to be reconstructed but it's still there. Btw 2-2 L motors are connected to the front and rear differentials and there's no connection between the front and rear section so I think this is 4WD, but correct me if I'm wrong :)

It took me much more time than expected (mostly due to the creation of digital instructions), but finally the video about my 42077 2WD & 4WD mod is published: I tried to stick to the currently available parts so no buggy motor this time, sorry :) Features of the two mods: 2WD: – 2 Power Functions L motors – Servo motor for steering – Working V6 engine – AAA battery box – IR remote control 4WD: – 4 Power Functions L motors – Servo motor for steering – 4 Power Functions lights – Working steering wheel – Working V6 engine – Working cooling fan placed abouve the engine – Power by 2 BuWizz units More pictures & info can be found in my blog post

How about some flashy yellow/black combination Bumblebee style to make use of the construction vehicle parts? :)

Sad to read this, but I understand the reasoning. Where was this exhibition held? It's a bummer I missed it... Hopefully you have at least the instructions ;) -
More complete powerfunction set?
kbalage replied to Claes's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Probably with the introduction of Power Functions 2.0 Lego will think about this and releases a more versatile PF kit. Anyway I can't recall if they ever offered a proper RC upgrade option for a non-motorized set, usually only one (or more) functions get motorized. I'm a big fan of RC upgrades and did already a few with more in the pipeline :) -
Very nice build, compact and fast :) Really like it!

42083 - Bugatti Chiron
kbalage replied to Jurss's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
New teaser on the Technic Facebook page, showing nothing new :) For a brief moment I thought the four wheels are surrounded by Bugatti MOCs, but I don't think Lego would risk the possible comparison.. -
LPub3d & LDCad - asking for help
kbalage replied to kbalage's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
If I move the random brick closer to the model that means the center point will go away again.. or maybe I didn't understand your process properly. Meanwhile I found a way to achieve what I wanted, this is also a painful workaround and will take tons of time to apply on multiple pages, but it works at least: - change the page size to A2 (only the one to "zoom") - rescale the model to fit the page - export an image of the page at a high resolution - change back the model scale to 1 and the page size to A4 - move the assembly image off-screen - add the exported image to the page - it will be much larger than the current page so it is possible to choose a preferred center point. Some parts will hang over the edge of the page but when exported to pdf they will be cut off properly. -
LPub3d & LDCad - asking for help
kbalage replied to kbalage's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
@Philo the .png circle with transparent background works well, thank you! I can add this afterwards directly to the pdf, faster to move and resize then in Lpub3D. @legolijntje I tried your suggestion with an extra brick moved further away to move the center point. It really moves the center of the image but in the same time it cuts off a significant part of the model that should be visible. This is the previous page where the extra brick is not added yet: This is the page with the extra brick. The center point moves properly towards the added pins as I wanted, but for me it seems that the whole rendered area moves as well to include the extra brick therefore the bottom part of the model is cut off. If I change the model scale the same amount of cropping remains. -
LPub3d & LDCad - asking for help
kbalage replied to kbalage's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks again! Now I'm pretty much done with the things to do in LDCad, I wonder if the following things can be done in LPub3d (tried to look for the answer here and on the ldraw forum as well but no luck): - Is it possible to add a circle to the page to highlight what part was added/changed like in the official instructions? - Is it possible to zoom in with a defined center point? I found the option to scale the model which is almost good, but if the area I want to show better is not in the center then this solution is not suitable since it cuts off the areas not visible on the page. -
[WIP] Le Mans Racers

Love the body work, absolutely recognizable even with this small amount of panels used. And as it was mentioned earlier, smaller size -> less weight -> faster MOC :)
