  1. Your van has got a real classic town look, Dr Leg O Brick. If you want more space for the cargo, you can use panels, if you have any that fits. They were widely used in vans and ambulances in the classic era. EDIT: Your van could easily go for being from same company as 6653 Highway Maintenance Truck.
  2. And with the white bus even followed a nice tram/streetcar/light rail. There really has been a nice selection of public transport vehicles (not counting the trains) since City Corner from 2009.
  3. Thank you, both of you. Even though there are a lot of great modular buildings around, I am a child of the 80s. I have a weakness for open-back buildings. They might have grown a bit and gotten a little more detailed since then, they are still open-back Gifinim, in the original version of the department store, the counter in the café was simply a grey cupboard with a white door. Boring as it is, I wanted something else and then it evolved. Now I have refigerated display, cash register and table - all on one 4x2 brick.
  4. I know the feeling I am planning to rebuild my town/city collection this year. I want to make some layouts in a cronological order. Of course, I will post the results here on EB when there is something to show. I have a few modulars. If they are going to be part of my town, I will also remove the back. My preference is also for the open-back buildings. That's a great picture, you have got there, tkatt. I don't remember seeing this before. It must be from 1987. It contains a lot of classic models And a rarity: The Black Falcon castle in the background. It was not often, you saw a mix of the themes at the time. But also it contains the red post office from 1982. I think it was not available in 1987. And next to the police station, you see a mix of two sets, namely the 6694 Car with Camper and the 6698 RV with Speedboat. Definately not a typical way for TLG to present their products or advertisements. You are really lucky to have this one.
  5. I guess you have already checked the old town layout index, Artifex. If not, then it's here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=62405 Though mostly modular layouts, there are also a few town/city layouts. - I hope more pictures of layouts will show up.
  6. Well... Not part of Euroland, but here in Denmark, I have found it in TRU at DKK 599 which equals € 80. Otherwise it seems to cost DKK 649 = € 87. There are no benefits for living in the same country as LEGO comes from.
  7. Finally it's time to take a look inside the department store. A look through the door reveals the central area of the ground floor. Also here the football fever is to be seen. - In this area different things will be displayed through the year. A view down on the skylight and atrium with the chandelier. On the ground floor you find the clothing department... - and the jewels and perfumes. It seems someone is going to get very happy soon One floor up you find the department for electric appliances, cookware and glassware. - Is this guy really browsing coffee machines? - Hmmm... "Do you know, this golden platter looks exactly like the one I saw yesterday at the Grand Emporium?" On the top floor, someone is dreaming. On the opposite side, freshly made juice is being served in the café. Thank you for visiting the expanded department store
  8. The new gates look much more realistic and useful, Skystorm87. I can see there is not much space left, but have you been thinking about a train station at the airport? Maybe you could combine the airport terminal and station in one building? Eventually build it above the tracks, though it will be a tall building.
  9. While other people are looking forward to the upcoming summer (Northern Hemisphere, that is), you reveal your beautiful MOC full of snow The tree - including the tree house - is really great made, but isn't it a bit too green for the season? The newspaper kiosk is not to forget. It's nice and inspirational, as I would like to make one myself. All in all a really great scene... "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere I go..."
  10. Welcome to Eurobricks, hadokn! Well, I don't know Chipotle, so cannot relate it to the real thing. But I can tell, you have made a really great MOC. I like the details on top of the facade. And you should not keep the entrance door for Flickr viewers only, as it's very nice made.
  11. Kevin8, are you fraternizing the enemy? Putting tiles on the floor!?! Just joking, it's justified in some cases. And especially in a case like this. And it's looking good. What really caught my eye was the living room with the fireplace. It's so cozy, and the fireplace with the plate is really beautiful. It ought to be in a great hall of a castle. Thank you for sharing the process with us.
  12. Thank you for sharing this, niteangel. It's really nice to see how an architect would tackle a MOC. Maybe you and gazumpty should make an online course on architectural idea generation on MOC'ing Regarding the building, it's an interesting concept with the addition and subtraction. It gives an clean, yet interesting exterior, though I agree with Xyver that an all-white LEGO building tends to get a bit too plain. The interior really resembles a modern, open office, white and clean with a dash of colour here and there. And great plotter!
  13. Thank you! As I prefer the classic open-back style of building, so the minifigs have to climb the walls And the design doesn't leave much space for stairs or a lift if I want to keep all the interior details. Thanks! After kevin8 suggested it should be rebuilt as a modular, I really began to plan an extension of the building. But I guess it has reached its limit by now. The building is 12 studs deep. If I add further to the size, it might move too much away from the classic open-back style. What do you think? Thanks, LT! I actually built the interior last week, but haven't had time to modify the pictures yet. I'll do that as soon as possible. But thank you for the offer. I might take it Thank you for the suggestions, Off the wall! I was actually planning on a different exterior, more close to the department store that inspired me. But as I didn't have the required bricks, I simply stuck with the old design, as I really wanted to make it bigger and fill in the interior. But it doesn't mean, I cannot consider your suggestions. Right now I am thinking about the row of bricks below the windows on the ground floor. The trim lines will stay as they are, as they are part of the floors. I was trying to make the construction differently, so I wouldn't have the grey trim lines, but it didn't work with the bricks I have at hand. Thank you gazumpty. At the time being, I don't have any rounded bricks that would fit on top of the columns. But I have tried to make the lintel (had to look up that word ) a bit higher so the thickness of it fits the width of the grille columns. It works better, as it's also hiding the tan bricks behind it. I have another MOC planned (beside the eventual reconstruction of the exterior of the department store). But the time horizon is still far away (BLing, PABing etc.). Thank you for the kind words, Zeon! As an admirer of classic open-back style these word really warm me And thank you for your suggestion, it will be part of my considerations regarding the exterior. Thank you all, for your replies. I read them through the week, but unfortunately, I didn't have the time to respond before now. /Laka
  14. Once again an amazing MOC, snaillad. And your fondness of art deco - that doesn't bother me. It's an interesting style. Just like with Barrie's Department Store, I also here like the double walls giving space for other colours inside the building. I like the different interior styles, you have made in the flats, eg. a more dark and heavy style for the older couple in the red flat and a more light style for the younger couple in the white flat. I think the grey facade works very well. With the two shades of grey and the white and gold details it does not get too dull to watch.
  15. Thanks, LT. Yeah... Couldn't resist, though I was on my way to bed. Here follows a few more pictures from the grand opening. The facade is slightly changed. A few details have been added, but the top of the centre piece has change quite a bit. It has become taller. But why? Could it be hiding something? (On a side note, I am not all too happy about the result, but until I find a better way, it will stay like this.) Yeah! It does. A brandnew skylight. Built of what I had at hand. No new BL-orders has been placed. Yet. Down at street level a view through the windows reveals that World Cup is near. And it seems the department store is ready. More pictures will follow in the new week. Thanks for watching. And sorry for the picture quality. Not the best. /Laka
  16. Very soon the department store will open its doors to a bigger store with even more goods to sell. A small preview of the expanded department store. The ever popular golden platter of course is part of the assortment. It's expected that the department store will open Sunday - pictures will follow.
  17. Well... My music fits your MOCs I can imagine there is only one LT. Now he just has to find the right name.
  18. Christmas parade? Now? - What a coincidence... I'm listening to Christmas music today... Merry Christmas, LT and LT Jr.
  19. Congratulations, LT! Now there is a new building experience waiting for you. And the big question: Where in NM should the opera house be placed?
  20. Please, don't feel sorry for that. You just brought this layout to my attention. Akm310, it's a really nice layout, you have got there. I like how you've manage to pack a lot of buildings and details into your city, including several MOCs. It would be nice to have a closer look at these MOCs, not least the inside, if you do interiors - which seems to be the case. Hope to see more layouts and MOCs from your side.
  21. Always nice to see interpretations of the good old models This one has a rather modern look, LT. It can actually also be a Danish-style postbox, as can be seen here. But it can also be Icelandic or from the United Arab Emirates, as can be seen in the Wikipedia article on postboxes (at the bottom of the page).
  22. At least you are aware of it yourself I like your use of jail doors for the racks, quite briliant. And always nice to get inspiration from your interior - though I have no plans about making hardware stores...
  23. It's nice to see some interior in the many MODs here I like the addition of beds. It's not often, you see that in the GE. For the third (second) floor I think you could easily divide the tables into smaller tables for the different kinds of glasses and kitchen ware. Also the beds and bags you could be divided. And maybe some tables or shelves with textiles for the home?
  24. A nice little layout. If you do MOCs, you should do a railway station that fits the style of the modulars.
  25. It was not long ago, maybe a week or two, I actually took a look at your Art Nouveau building. Funny you make an update to it now. It is not often, you see an Art Nouveau building in LEGO. I like your building. You really get the details well. I like the big windows made of the 'rolling' gate and the organic shaped details under the glass roof.
