Hi there & welcome to Eurobricks! See you around and have fun collecting.
-
I'm glad I could give you some useful input! Thinking about it, a mix between white, tan and dark red might work really well on the forum. White for the columns and the face of the building maybe, framing some tan parts, with dark red for accents. That should cover the most common colours used back then, without having to delve into recreating mosaics or frescos, which might be more than Lego pieces are able to do What we see today on historical buildings is often just a shadow of what was there when they were new. Stucco, paint, decorations - all that weathers away when not cared for. Medieval castles, for example, were probably all covered in stucco, instead of showing their bare stone walls as we see them today. History fascinates me and one of the reasons why is the detective work in so many fields: how things looked like, how they were used, how people lived, etc.

This is super impressive! It looks like a film prop, or from a fallout-game. I also wouldn't have noticed the train tracks. Knowing they are there makes them quite obvious, but its not like they telegraph their existence. Very subtle but very efficient building technique.

Day 3 looks so cute! So far there is quite a lot of diversity!

Your vignettes look excellent! And, as far I can tell, historically quite well informed too. The detailing on the buildings, the use of weapons, all fits very well. Same for the minifigs. Romans and non-romans alike. They all have character too. Something I really appreciate. As for the forum, it is very well built. The gold decorations looks brilliant, but I agree that it could use some more colour. Maybe this link and this here will give you some inspiration. The arena seems to be pretty spot on though, according to these sources.

Aha, now this is a little (no pun intended!) disappointing. They are cute, but leave so much to be desired. Such a pity!

Fun idea! Vikings are always great. By Odin, I'm looking forward how the other 23 will be like!

This is really sweet. The backdrops look like made for this (and not for tables) and the little labels very neat. As if these were collector reissue-sets.

[MOC] Santa’s Workshop at the North Pole Advent Calendar
Littleworlds replied to kjm161's topic in LEGO Town
Brilliant! Its decorated so richly and with attention to detail. The Facade is already very impressive and spot on, but the interior really pushes things up to eleven. So lovely and inventive and so much to like there. Its just perfectly build and super cute. I keep discovering things each time I look up at the pictures. Wonderful. The war-room-style lobby gave me an extra smile btw. Santa's level of professionalism is clearly hard to over estimate- 45 replies

When I first saw the set on fbtb (I think it was), I was a bit underwhelmed, but the set definitely grew on me. Its more blue collar than most of the other modulars, but as several people pointed already out, it fits definitely very well to the detectives office. Not saying that it would be a bad fit with some of the more classy ones. After all, many european cities have a quite random mix of styles as well. We often just tend to not notice it. The diner itself has quite some charme and hits the exactly right look. The choice for a gym upstairs is a bit surprising, but fits to the trend of having the sets inhabited by often quite different stores and people. The little recording studio is a fun feature. Together with the record and the car you can easily reenact the rise of the King to be... The king. Nice to have, I have to say. Since I'm still very new to the modulars-game, I don't plan to get it in foreseeable time though. There are some older ones which want to be got before. Still it is a quite interesting set for sure.

[MOC] Hercules and the Erymanthian Boar
Littleworlds replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Lovely MOC! The terrain and the temple look great. You feel like you could almost touch the masonry on it, and the boar has quite an aggressive glance in his eyes. Especially when facing Hercules head on. Edit: also extra points for the subject matter. You don't see greek mythology every day here! -
I'm happy the Tron bike made it. I'm sure its going to be a nice, and if it stays minifig size (which I strongly assume), its going to be a quite affordable set too. Its a pity though that the quest builder or the arcade games didn't got through. Its quite understandable with the games, since Tron is very much covering the same theme.

Welcome to Eurobricks, henjansson. Your Steel Wheel Forest is sheer messy steampunky madness. I really love it. I hope to see more of that stuff!

Some lovely builds once again. So much elegant simplicity. The police van is so nice, no surprise that even the convict is smiling!

[MOC] Butcher, market gardener and lawyer office
Littleworlds replied to jalemac34's topic in LEGO Town
Looks good. Really lovely interior detailing. Though having a butcher and a lawyer is a bit redundant! -
Hi there Stefan! Welcome to Eurobricks!

Hello and welcome to Eurobricks! Maybe we see some of your creations here soon. I'm always curious what ideas people come up with!

I think they are 1) a nice set for AFOLs who look for some mixed pieces for their collection of spare pieces, 2) a fun starting point for some free-form creative building across age-groups, and 3) a huge disappointment for those uninterested in everything without instrucutions . But seriously, maybe there is a bunch of retro themed-sets coming as well. If not, ah well, then not. The kids will be happy anyway and they are center stage as target audience.

I think that would have skyrocketed the price even higher, but I agree, it would be a fun idea. Right now though it seems there will be a gaping hole where the middle part is supposed to be. Pity, but I think that can be fixed with some bricklinking. The rest appears pretty much complete.

Looks great! I like how dynamic you capture the invasion scene. Lots of movement there. The transformation of the landscape is also very impressive. Superb detailing. The minifigs look also very good and give me some ideas to do something similar. Excellent work all in all - just love it! Oh yes! That looks really wicked!

Excellent review! You can barely improve the technical aspects and the writing is coherent and balanced - just as a proper review should be.

Another batch of lovely builds. And finally a Tardis that is properly sized! Its also nice to see a reinterpretation of the white offroad pickup with the spring suspension.

Lovely little city. A bit like a fantasy venice. I like the variety of the buildings. Each has its own, individual character. Very well done!

Looking at the pictures of the actual boxes now, I have to say that I can see what they wanted to do and its quite convincing. These are clearly not aimed at adults and/or fans of modulars. Instead they are what they are: pretty diverse and colourful parts-boxes for free-style building. Quite a departure of the recent developments indeed (where sets don't really invite kids to take them apart, once put together. Just saying Star Wars here), but at the other hand it is quite in the original spirit of Lego to have a set you take a apart, rearrange, recombine, etc. - so that's spot on actually. My initiate reaction was disappointment though, because I had a very clear expectation on what it "should" be in my opinion and that was not what these sets are. Though, stepping away from these expectations, and looking at the sets in the bigger, non-AFOL-context, I am fine with them, and might actually get a couple of them. They are also actually quite like the master-builder-box Jangbricks got some weeks ago, so - why not?
