LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
The €10 "Starter Sets" made those explorer themes a bit nicer, they were a nice way to get 3-4 figures, an animal and some small builds. Sets like the Mining Team were generic enough to be used for Construction workers. The focus has shifted to mostly single vehicles on their €10 sets (Exception was the 2020 Stunt Team with 2 smaller vehicles/minfigs) 2019 still had 2 full people packs and a Blister Pack for 4 Space figures. I wonder if they'll still make a 4-minifig blister pack for City later, or a full People Pack. -
I love the direction this is going, next week will be the Finals. (Broadcast Saturdays on RTL 4 20:00 in The Netherlands)

The mechanic torso certainly is nice to see, it was only used for Harl Hubbs in City before.

LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

I don't really need the big ship either, with last year's sets being very diving themed already , I just want the Underwater Base. -
A Warcraft theme. I know MEGA had it in the past, but LEGO and Blizzard have a partnership under Overwatch now. And there could easily be battlepacks for generic soldiers/people of the main races. There is just so much to cover, but there should be some focus to keep it managable.

Love the little interior details and things that are put within the rock builds, like extra weapons, armor and some crystals.

LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

If I get any of the new City sets, it'll be just the Underwater Base, since it functions as a sort of modular submarine as well. Got the 2019 Diving Yacht to go with it, and I think it's fine for a smaller scale "1997 Divers" type of scene. -
LEGO Creator 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

Caravan Family Holiday listed for €89.99 here (€10 more then Germany), that's a case of being overpriced imo. Especially when looking at the Pirate Ship at €99.99, which also has 66%, or 500 more pieces. (766 vs 1264) -
41390 is exclusive to LEGO.com here as well, and so is 41431 (Heartlake City Box).

LEGO Hidden Side 2020

Big difference here, seeing the wave 1 sets for 25-40% off for a while now, wave 2 around 20-30% off. (online shops) Of course we still won't know the actual sales worldwide based on discounts. City, Ninjago and Creator 3-in-1 have 20-30% off regularly here. Over 40% off is rare , but many LEGO MOVIE 2 sets were available for 50% off. -

Good spot on the Dual Pin connectors. Actually 2019 Creator 3-in-1 building started to use dual pin connectors on it, so it's sort of compatible, the Petshop Cafe set has 3 modules in the main build to form the corner+street terrace, and the alternate build has smaller shops that can be re-arranged. The 2020 Creator Toy Shop also has those pin holes on the side. -

We'll see where this theme will end up, but overall this year has been different, and we're only months into it, the economic situation will continue to have a market effect for some time. Many people were negative about Nexo Knights at launch , and while it was canceled early (it still had 5 waves and like 100 sets, a 2-year TV show , and many books/magazines, I don't consider that a fail), it also never had a 40% off "sale" compared to like LEGO Movie 2 sets. I'd Imagine LEGO will be careful with overproduction in the markets outside of Asia, as their overall production capacity is already lower then usual. But really, the theme is only 2 days old, so way too early to judge any sales, but if this theme will end up getting larger % discounts around Christmas or Black Friday we might know more. I don't want it to fail, but I do hope for more location sets in future waves, like a big set that consists of more of those shops, or a Fortress. -
LEGO Monkie Kid 2020

True, but right now I'm personally leaning toward the Fire-Stone Mech 968 pieces €70 (+ potential discounts) , so around half price or less compared to the Monkey King mech set. Of course it's smaller, but I'm almost liking the other Ninjago sets this summer so it'll go better with that theme, would be the first time collecting Ninjago for me as well. Price to part ratio on the Monkey King Mech isn't the real issue, moreso that it's exclusive to LEGO so no expected discounts (for now). Maybe I'll eventually pick up the White Horse bike set. -

I see similarities with Nexo Knights as well, especially this Hover Horse -

I still really don't see the value on the largest sets here, the Monkey Mech (€140 here), and Ship (€170 here). The only set I'd consider would be the Bull Mech (€80 here) but only at a discount. -
LEGO, Quo Vadis? Some Thoughts on a New Business Model

Same here about the point of larger sets, and only really liking parts of it. I actually do like the Hotel in the Captial City set, and the little buildings in the new Monkie Kid theme, but my collection mostly has 3-in-1 sized builds and no Modulars. I know some people buy and sell sections of sets via Ebay and such but to me I rather buy sets first-hand. But as long as 3-in-1 provides nice buildings I'm not too worried, I still want to get the 2020 Toyshop when I find a good deal on it, maybe 2, since 2020 doesn't really have other 3-in-1 buildings , and that set looks like a good pack. -
Couldn't I say the same about people wanting more sets/figures from a Star Wars movie from 1977 (A New Hope) 1980 (Empire Strikes Back) , a very similar time period to the start of LEGO Space. I agree there are more parts and colors now, and those can certainly be used for Classic themes as well as Licensed. I don't think the majority would want 100% copies of old sets. And in the past 20 or so years, just look how many LEGO has made same-subject sets again, from X-Wings to Falcons and Hogwarts to an AT-AT etc. Anyway, this isn't meant to be bashing Licensed , but I can see a lot of "nostalgia" on licensed themes as well, TV shows, Music Bands, Disney, etc seem popular on Ideas for example , and many of those aren't even based on recent properties. IDEAS sets like Steamboat Willie (1928), or The Flintstones (1960-1966) or F.R.I.E.N.D.S. (1994-2004) , or even more real-world happenings like Saturn V (1967-1971) aren't exactly very recent either. (not talking about the year LEGO released sets but the source material)

LEGO, Quo Vadis? Some Thoughts on a New Business Model
TeriXeri replied to legotownlinz's topic in General LEGO Discussion
LEGO currently is selling 5 system Trains (City Passenger, City Cargo, Disney, Hogwarts, Hidden Side) , 3 of those being fully ready and motorized. Also still sells both Power Functions and Powered Up Train Motors, Rails and Switches. Winter Holiday Train was on the market for 3 years from 2016-2019 and only just retired in December 2019. More trains will certainly come, but the City Trains seem stay on the market for around 4 years before officially retiring/replaced by a new one. 2011 and 2015 did have an additional City Cargo Train , but since 2019 had the Hidden Side Cargo Train release, I can understand they didn't make another City one. -

I collected Nexo Knights so I am fairly saturated on mechs and vehicle sets, I'd rather get those small shops seperately instead. Also this being LEGO exclusive means high prices with no discounts (and those listed Euro prices can still be higher as they often are in some countries) On paper, the price/part ratios aren't that terrible for the larger sets, but most of the sets are large, also consider getting 20-40% off on sets outside of LEGO.com, and it starts to make a huge difference. Also lots of stickers to get the sets their Anime/Cartoonish looks. My favorite set would be the polybag to be honest. Not hating on this theme or the sets, but personally I am leaning towards the Ninjago Summer sets instead + the Barracuda Bay & Creator 3-in-1 sets I still want to get this year. Chinese New Year sets like Dragon Boat Race, Lion Dance and Temple Fair were well worth 100% of the price so I'd rather buy more of those if they make more. -

If there would be one set they'd bring back, I wish it were the 2008 Town Plan, but very unlikely because that was a special 50th anniversary set, and also there's likely a City D2C type set soon. -

Interesting, just found this article about a potential future way of customizing your own City set : https://spielwaren-investor.com/2020/05/13/ein-personalisiertes-lego-set-traum-vieler-fans-koennte-realitaet-werden/ If real, I think it's awesome. -
10 days to 10k , that was fast, even tho I have no interest in those TV show sets myself.
