  1. Seems the model's salient feature has gone right over everyone's head, probably because reading has gone out of fashion and pictures that don't look out of a pro studio aren't worth perusing. Oh well, not my loss
  2. This is a plum picker. It's somehow similar to a cherry picker but it's designed specifically for plucking pesky plums from perilous purple peaks. The model has been built with no pretence of realism or proportion, only to be fun to play with for hands-on toddlers as well as RC-loving teens. It has eight functions: - drive - steering - rear outriggers - front outriggers - platform elevation - platform rotation - platform extension - front winch (plum pickers need a winch because of reasons). All eight functions can be activated either manually or remotely thanks to two L motors, one M motor and a simple distribution gearbox. The model also has working headlights as well as opening doors, tilting seats, a spare wheel and a couple of tools. Props to Anto, Didumus69 and BrickbyBrickTechnic for coming up with great ideas I shamelessly pilfered.
  3. Now this is awesome! Have you got a video of it in action? How well does it handle high torque (in the 20 N/cm range)?
  4. Thank goodness for that! As for the friction, that may very well be due to the half-bevels and not the diff case - I always have to wade through a whole box of them to get three that run smoothly together, let alone five.
  5. I like your reviews. Any negativity you're getting is just sour grapes - I'd rather enjoy the wine What's your impression of the new diff compared to the "old" one? Does it seem to have more friction (5 half-bevel gears versus 3)? Can it be taken apart easily or is it one of those almost no-turning-back click-ins like the small turntable and the new z60 turntable?
  6. It's really hard to help without knowing more about the bigger picture. Anyway, as Didumos69 already pointed out (maybe in the other thread - can't remember) you should have a solid, light-weight central column running the length of the car to ensure maximum rigidity. It'll also give you plenty of mounting points and minimise gear skipping/axle bending. Something like this should do the job (thrown together just to give you a basic idea and with plenty of room for improvement): Other than that, you really need to go through a lot of trial and error to learn how to build effectively and efficiently and figure out what works for your own models.
  7. Agree, red with black tracks FTW. Would love to see this thing in blue (space blue, not any of those baby azures) or dark blue with white accents. Obviously not possible with the current parts.
  8. Help me out here - where did you see that on the parts-pack-dressed-up-as-a-creighn? Is it ridged (42042/42043) or smooth (42056/42083)?
  9. This crane is bringing out everyone's kinky side. All knobbing, I mean kidding aside, I think you're spot on when you say the set's gonna sell like hot buns, I mean cakes. At 30% off it should make a decent parts pack for most muckers, I mean MOCers.
  10. You can replace the 5x11 panels with LBG 5x11 frames. They should be sturdier and offer more - and better - attachment points. As for the limiter, have you tried using Sariel's stepper? It should be able to handle quite a bit of torque.
  11. Before addressing the obvious chassis reinforcement issues, ask yourself how much torque you really need.
  12. I doubt so - that's usually an issue on heavier, unbalanced models, not on a dinky 900-part thingie.
  13. "Alfie, we need you to design a small crane with 69 gears and 69% backlash."
  14. I just looked at the instructions and noticed they used five gears to accomplish what could've been done with ONE.
  15. I've run into the same issue, too. Like Allanp said, some of those gears seem to have come out wrong. No biggie if you've got a decent stock of them but still a pain in the backside.
  16. Wow dis creighn iz so amayz It's got a brand new technique called "stick your finger in the hole and flick out the outrigger" - doesn't get any better (that's what she said).
  17. No matter how you spin it, high torque and bevel gears (let alone half-bevel gears) don't get along very well. You need to redesign the chassis to accomodate a solution using spur gears - something like this, which @aeh5040 posted in your previous thread:
  18. As things stand, the BuWizz/PF combo is the best choice and light-years ahead of Control+. In my experience, a single BuWizz unit can easily handle up to eight XL motors (two per channel) under heavy load.
  19. The Defender has given me the best kicks ever. You have no idea how many grown-ups with the right to vote and start a family can't grasp the kinderleicht concept of "turn that UV jount 90° to fix the wonky transmission" - not even with step-by-step visual support.
  20. Not with Brick Controller or BuWizz. No idea about - and, as it stands, no interest in - the Control+ app. Indeed - but you don't even need that for the selector motor. Gear it down, hook it up to a 90° shifter and rely on your ears. There's a genius Moc by @BrickbyBrickTechnic that does just that.
