Aftwrmarket springs
suffocation replied to MinusAndy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Anyway, forget the purism codswallop. I got some springs from a local DIY here in Italy - €0.90 for eight of them - and they work just as well as the springs on the 9.5L shock absorbers. -
Aside from the arm - and not even to much of an extent - I fail to see where the instability is. Anyway, here's another model that proves you can have a model with 8 Claas tyres that works fine:

Something in the €600 range, then It does look like they're going in that direction, at least in terms of price

I'd say it works fine. The swaying is due to how the arm is designed, not to any inherent Lego limit; the slowness - which, by the way, is realistic - is due to excessive downgearing.

That's bad geometry, not lack of parts. The 2l rubber parts are fine and in any case I doubt they'd introduce parts subject to any wear of that kind in a brake configuration since they'd have millions of numbskulls complaining "omg teh breaks on my lambo r not misb enny moar ive only yewsd them a trillion timez wtf" How about pinhole z12 & z24 gears? Or a 6-position selector instead of the Pewkatti's 4-position wave selector?

42099 came with a new CV joint that handles higher torque and tighter angles.

Couldn't give two bowel movements about the looks - once the price drops by 30%, this model's gonna be a great parts pack.

Uh, let me spoon-feed you: I was talking about the model, not the actual vehicle.

Wow, a flagship that goes back and forth, steers, tips a bed and has no suspension. The domination of excrementification.

The 12/24 combo can be tricky. Assuming you're using a double-bevel z12 as the smaller of the two, the larger can be any of the following: a standard z24 gear. They seem to produce quite a bit of friction unless you use the latest ones (maybe from 2016 onward? Not sure), which have ever-so-slightly shorter teeth. a white clutch gear. No issues encountered so far. an old crown gear. Can't figure out a pattern here - some offer a fairly smooth mesh while others hardly move, regardless of whether they're standard or reinforced. a second-gen differential. The ones I've tried, whether DBG or red, all seem to mesh fine.

Ah, good point. Anyway, this crane you're working on is awe-inspiring. Can't wait to see more! -

Why not include a selector to choose between "realistic mode" and "play mode"? The former maybe 2 rpm max and the latter e.g. three times as much.
