Just discovered Lorde. She's from New Zealand and absolutely awesome.

LEGO could definitely maximize their sales from the Disney license if they took advantage of all the material from the classic animated films (Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Lion King, Mulan, Jungle Book, the list goes on). They could make two waves of sets a year for a 'Disney Classics' sub theme, with each wave having a variety of sets based on all the different stories. No one wave would be solely focused on a single movie. That way the likelihood of all the classic scenes and characters getting sets is much greater. With Maleficent, I wouldn't be that surprised if we see sets. Sure, most of the Disney live action stuff has been based on existing franchises (POTC) or hopeful franchise starters (PoP, Lone Ranger), both of which flopped at the box office and have no chance of sequels. So, while they may seem to focus on franchises, they've had more one-off themes than not. And I really think Maleficent will be a movie that lends itself perfectly for LEGO sets when it comes to structures and thematic elements. I can only imagine what some of the castles will look like, along with all the other possible fantasy locations. Also, part of me just really wants a fig based on Angelina Jolie. Its something that seems so strange and impossible in the world of LEGO, yet there may be a chance. Very cool.

Hey, so I've noticed that there are a lot of threads dedicated for future set ideas for themes like Super Heroes, LOTR and Star Wars, but there hasn't been one for the general scope of Disney. I'm thinking this thread can be a place to talk about the possible LEGO themes that are under the Disney umbrella, but aren't part of any other preexisting property. For me, I'd love to see some sets based on the upcoming Maleficent film. The movie comes out on July 2, 2014, and it might be the perfect movie to make sets that could appeal to all audiences. Plus, judging from what pictures of the title character we have seen, the possible figures would be immaculate.

Got a reply back from Jordan Scott. He said he's not sure what info he can give away, so he's not gonna take the risk. It's the answer I expected. Worth a shot.

I've just gone on to Jordan Scott's (he worked on Mirkwood spiders and Orthanc) tumblr page. I asked him whether or not he could confirm what the LEGO representative from the MTV video said about 5 sets. I doubt he'd be allowed to give out any info, but its worth a try. If we could know for sure how many sets to expect, we can determine the legitimacy of the current set list we have.

I'm starting to agree with you. The list does seem a little strange. LEGO seems to have a good sense of what scenes are necessary when making licensed waves. The POTC line is a perfect example of a theme that did one wave for one movie and made sets for most of the major sequences from the film. And unlike POTC or any other movie-only properties, there are the books. LOTR and The Hobbit have original written material that, while not under the actual license held by TLG, can give the designing team a strong sense of what scenes could translate best into sets. And thats without the extensive additions PJ has made. AUJ, I expect, will have the least amount of severe plot deviations of the trilogy. Since the designers knew when the film would end, they could decide what scenes needed to be represented in the wave. The chapters from the books have a wider recognizability from fans. Having sets based on the classic scenes from the book makes a lot more sense than focusing on the additions that PJ has made. While they are part of the licensed material, LEGO can still decide what sets are most important. Also, if LEGO doesn't get a Smaug set/fig out before the Xmas holiday, they'll have missed a HUGE cash cow. Bag End was the most popular toy during Xmas 2012. Its so iconic, everyone wanted it; kids who were just getting into Tolkien, teens who've been fans since they were kids, and adults who read the books back in their teens. They all wanted that exquisite model of the most beloved, iconic house in fantasy literature. Smaug has the exact same level of iconic value! Fans of all ages will be anticipating LEGO's representation of the titular dragon, and to not include him in the wave of sets based on the film with the characters name in the title would be ridiculous. It'd just be a bad business move. I think its safe to say this list is fake, or at least from not the most reliable of sources. Some of the list could be true, but the two Dol Guldur sets and the Elf battle pack are now seeming a bit much/out of place. EDIT: Also, from the MTV video from SDCC that got up close with the Laketown set, the guy asked about whether or not we'll see Smaug. The woman hesitated (obviously), but the way she said "you'll just have to wait and see" kinda seemed like a roundabout way of saying "yes". She couldn't explicitly say yes or no, but the tone and slight excitement in he voice leans towards the idea that we will see Smaug in a set this fall.

PJ was quoted saying that the final battle in DOS would have a lot going on, including artillery, fire and "one pissed of dragon". Phillipa Boyens said its gonna be the biggest action sequence PJ has ever attempted, which is saying a lot. But the final battle could focus more on Dol Guldur. I just don't know how they can have a big battle with Smaug and not have him die. I'm fine with PJ adding to and expanding Smaug's attack, but he can't have more than one attack. That stretches things too far, and I think PJ knows the limit he can push his changes to. All the Dol Guldur stuff was written by Tolkien. Those changes make sense. Tauriel, while not a Tolkien original, fits within the story nicely, and is a believable character within the story. Adding an entirely new attack from Smaug, that has no reason to be there except add a massively unneeded action sequence, is not in the spirit of Tolkien. Smaug will die. Laketown was known as the Desolation of Smaug after his death. That's the name of the film. He's gonna die at the end. Sorry about the rant.

That's what I'm hoping. This may not be a full list. Still seems like Thranduil isn't anywhere, unless in the smallest set. The biggest set with undoubtedly be based around Smaug's final hours.

New Action Themes for 2014?
Fives replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I just watched King Kong (2005). LEGO should do a new jungle theme, like the original Johnny Thunder stuff. Give us prehistoric creatures and what not, but have a giant Gorilla. I know its kinda like ripping off a classic story, but that way LEGO wouldn't have to get licenses. They kinda did it with the Dino 2012 theme. Ripped off Jurassic Park in a big way. -
The whole wave sounds INTERESTING, but I feel like, if this is it, LEGO dropped the ball a bit. No sign of Beorn or Smaug (two very important characters from the book), yet two sets baswed on Dol Guldur (something never mentioned in the book). The Elf Army set sounds like it will become another favourite, like Uruk Army has been. Hopefully it won't have any named characters, except maybe Azog and Tauriel (new hair). While two Dol Guldur sets seems like overkill, it may be a way for LEGO to give us all of the White Council without cramming up minifig space in one set. Radagast and Gandalf could be in the smaller set, battling a Nazgul or something, while Elrond, Galadriel and Saruman could be in the big set with Sauron and stuff. I was REALLY looking forward to Smaug. So, I'm a little disappointed at the moment. Hopefully once some pictures surface, my mind will change a bit. Regardless, I'm gonna buy all the sets anyway!

I wouldn't want him in one of his cameos (we technically already got him as a Corsair). I think a proper version of him would be a really cool collectible for LEGO and non-LEGO fans alike. He wouldn't be a fig used for anything. Just a really cool collectible. That's what LEGO has missed when it comes to the SDCC figs. They should make figs who would likely never be put in normal sets, yet still have that exclusive aspect. So many Super Heroes fans have been robbed of the chance to get some of their favourite characters because they are so rare and cost unreasonable amounts of money online. Sorry, this kinda turned into a rant.

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Fives replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The TLM CMF series could likely be treated like the Olympic Athletes line. It was separate from the main line. The only difference would be it would be available everywhere and it would have 16 figs. I'm really excited/worried/interested to see how LEGO does Vitruvius's lolly staff in the sets. Could be a special piece entirely, or could just be mocked up using existing parts. Let's just hope we don't get sticky, half-eaten lollies in our sets!- 2,626 replies

I think that the next LOTR/Hobbit SDCC exclusive should be, rather than anything from the films, Peter Jackson! It would make the best exclusive fig. He wouldn't likely be in any real sets, and if distributed more reasonably, unlike Azog, he wouldn't be too expensive. I think a PJ fig would kinda make the whole theme feel complete.

Shame there's not been any news yet about the DOS sets. Hopefully a set list or something will pop up in September. This thread has been kinda dead for a few days.

New Action Themes for 2014?
Fives replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It may be some time before that happens. If Disney keeps cranking out POTC films, LEGO will make sets. And with all the other licenses and original themes, there isn't much space to dedicate to Pirates. Could be another 5 years or more till we see it return. But if and when it does, I bet it will be amazing. Also, I think the LEGO Movie is gonna have a bit of every classic LEGO theme. With 17 sets, we'll get a bit of town, action, space, western, castle, pirates, and unique movie-specific stuff. I'm very excited for those sets. -
That's exactly what I'm hoping for, and what I expect LEGO to do. It just seems to make the most sense. LEGO really hit a home run with the Ninjago dragon designs (I never bought one myself, but they look really fantastic), and for them not to use that tenchnique in those theme, which is targeted for a similar age group as Ninjago, would be folly. I think the discussion about Smaug is less how will he be made, and more of what scene will they depict him in. There's really only two iconic scenes to choose from, and only one that is really action packed. It's reasonable to assume a Laketown/Dale focused set with Smaug. His conversation with Bilbo, while iconic, doesn't seem to lend that much in the way of a fun set to play with, whereas an attack on a city is perfect.

The Smaug debate is very interesting to read. I think LEGO has three choices: 1. A large brick built dragon, at almost minifig scale. Sure, it'd be an amazing build and display piece, but difficult for kids to play with, and would likely mean nothing else in the same set. A risky move, that likely wouldn't be the best in the grand scheme of things. 2. A System scale dragon, like the Castle dragons. Maybe slightly bigger, but still all molded. Easy for kids to p,at with, but it may look I lame next to figs and buildings. A safe choice, but one that will guarantee a lot of disappointment from fans. 3. A Ninjago style dragon. Molded head, brick built body, foldable wings with cloth (like sails) to make the wings look full when open. This would give Smaug a more impressive appearance next to figs, make him look and feel less like an action figure, yet still be part of a much larger set (Erebor or Laketown). This, in my mind, would be the best choice LEGO could make. Kids would recognize the style from Ninjago and want another cool dragon, and Tolkien fans get a brick built Smaug within a reasonable price and piece range.

I'm surprised that the new LOTR sets have still yet to appear in stores in some places. They've been here in Canada (and I believe the US) since sometime in May. It's a strange shame.

Just saw The Wolverine last night. It's a shame LEGO doesn't have the rights for that movie. Just two sets would be all we need. $50: Yashida Home - the small pond in the middle, with the room where Yashida lay on his deathbed. Includes Logan (shirtless), Yukio, Shingen, and one of Harada's ninja. $75: Final Battle - the adamantium samurai, made like Lex Luthor's mech, some walkways and a small elevator shaft. Includes Logan, Mariko, Viper, Harada, and Yashida in the mech. I'd love these sets, but alas we'll never see them.

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion

I'm super excited for the figs from these sets, particularly Emmet, Lucy 'Wyldstyle', and Vitruvius. I'm also really excited to see if they'll put the licensed characters from other themes, mainly Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and so on.- 2,626 replies

I think above all else, the casting for this film couldn't be any better. All the choices they've made are perfect, and I can't wait to see how they depict the arena! Definitely one of the coolest parts of the trilogy!
-
I could see LEGO doing something similar to Uruk-Hai Army, but for the Hobbit. Three orcs and a Warg, an elf, a man and a dwarf soldier, a section of Erebor that can be attached on either side ( because the battle does take place in between those two ams of stone that come out on either side of the gate ). Roughly $25-30, that would make an amazing army builder. That way, the main BO5A set could focus on the main characters during the battle, like Beorn, Thorin, Bolg, Fili, Kili, Azog, an Eagle or two, plus a couple more orcs to even the odds.

That is a brilliant idea. Two new figs, an elven statue, and the table they talk at. Perhaps the Morgul blade as well.

Have there been any up-close views of the new Wookiee?
