  1. Supported. What better way could LEGO end the LOTR theme! Sail it off to the West! Kinda poetic, really.
  2. I'll get two to start. But I'm thinking four total. That way I can make a round Elf base with four tree towers and some sort of courtyard in the middle. A mini castle!
  3. Wow! It nice to finally get some HR images of the sets. They all look even better than I thought! Thranduil, by far, takes the best new fig slot for this wave. Too bad there aren't any shots of Dol Guldur Battle yet. Hopefully soon!
  4. If I'm not mistaken, we didn't get any LOTR polybags this year. I doubt we'll see anything for The Hobbit either. They likely weren't as popular as LEGO had hoped (especially when half of them included named characters from a cheap set).
  5. While I can understand LEGO's move on this (kids like mechs and it doesn't require a license), I would've loved some Zelda or Portal sets. They would've introduced some cool new prints and molds. Oh well...
  6. Speaking of the new image, where did it come from?
  7. Now that we've gotten that look at Beorn, I love his design! The only thing I find funny: his hairpiece should've been dark grey and light grey, rather than dark tan and tan.
  8. ^ I see where you're coming from, and I agree that I liked the independence of the villains in the book. But in the context of the films, I think that the wider movie watching population would understand the connection of the Necromancer story and Sauron during the War of the Ring if he still has dominion over his servants. Also, I believe that the DOS Empire magazine issue talked about the multiple father/son relationships in the film. We see Legolas and Thranduil, Bard and Bain, and Azog and Bolg. And PJ himself said that they are the two most serious orcs they've had in theses films yet.
  9. Well, the designer who made Mirkwood Spiders and worked on Orthanc designed Mirkwood Elf Army. I wonder if he'll make a set for the next LOTR wave? EDIT: 2000th post! Now I'm a Duke!
  10. We've already heard this list, but before is what from a less reliable source. Whether or not TheBrickFan has gotten this info from here or not greatly affects the truth behind this list. If it's true, I'm pleased. But it also looks WAY too much like a fan wish list. Then again, the exclusion of Treebeard and the Balrog seems like something that LEGO would do; leave more iconic scenes out to make space for more action packed battle scenes (Amon Hen instead of Khazad-Dûm). Out of the list, Amon Hen is the one that makes me the most excited and believe this list the most.
  11. I bet his role will be a little bigger than Yazneg's. He is Azog's son, after all.
  12. My two cents: I think the idea of Azog being at Dol Guldur is plausible. The one thing that would really help bring the two trilogies together is not allowing orcs to act independently; that they rely on Sauron for orders and direction. My theory (based on the theory that I posted earlier from TheOneRing.net) is that Bolg made a deal with Sauron to bring Azog back from the dead so he could complete his mission of destroying the line of Durin, and in return vowed to serve Sauron at Dol Guldur and that he and Azog would be forced to fight for Sauron if summoned. So if my theory is anywhere within the ball park of accuracy (which is a slim chance), then perhaps Azog's involvement at Dol Guldur is because he is obliged to be there due to his life-debt to the Dark Lord. As for the Necromancer's physical appearance and involvement in the battle, I believe that we only saw a very small glimpse of the Necromancer in AUJ. I think his full appearance (which may have a face of some sort) will be revealed in DOS, and hopefully LEGO's minifig is accurate. If the appearance isn't changed from how he looked in AUJ, it will mean two things: 1. LEGO's fig will be inaccurate to the film, which is sad, and 2. any performance from Benedict Cucumberpatch will have been wasted on a character who is only a silhouette and just looks creepy from a distance.
  13. It's in the Eaton Centre in downtown Toronto. ToysToysToys is a toy store chain that is only located in and around Toronto.
  14. Last year the ToysToysToys at the Eaton Centre in Toronto had all the Hobbit sets (except Barrel Escape) by early to mid november. I called the store the other day to inquire about their knowledge of the upcoming sets. From the sounds of it, they are aware of the sets, and the girl I talked to said she expects they'll get them in the next couple weeks. So hopefully I'll have these sets by mid november.
  15. This is what I'm getting at. It makes no sense for LEGO to get the license for one of the most successful film trilogies of all time and cover less than 20% of the scenes from ROTK. We've got Shelob, the Black Gate and the Corsair Ship (which has barely any iconic value). We've got plenty from FOTR and TTT, so it would make complete sense for LEGO to switch gears and focus heavily on Gondor as their last wave of LOTR. And while LEGO may treat LOTR and The Hobbit separately, the rights are all one thing, all owned by New Line / Warner Bros. At least thats what I thought when the license agreement was first announced.
  16. Yeah, LEGO would simply renew the license. They've renewed Star Wars twice because there is constantly more sets to make (CW, Rebels, Sequel Trilogy). Licenses like Harry Potter or any one-hit-wonders make sense to end after one or two waves. After that, there is nothing new.
  17. ^ AMEN! It blows my mind how often AFOLs seem to forget that LEGO is a kids toy first. Sure, LEGO is aware that their products are getting more and more attention from adult consumers, and they've made efforts to create special items for an older age range. But when it comes to a basic wave of sets that coincide with the release of a hugely anticipated movie, LEGO has to make choices that will make the most sense and sell the most sets. Take the Elves, for example. Sure, they could've made new molds for helmets, swords, shields - the whole nine yards. Instead, they just made some new torso prints and went full out on Thranduil. To me, that makes sense. In DOS, I doubt we'll see the armoured Elves in a lot of action. They'll likely get their spotlight during the BO5A, so LEGO can save their efforts and resources for then. Also, the complaints about Beorn have nothing to do with LEGO. LEGO has done an amazing job capturing the character in minifig form. But everyone keeps complaining about how the new hair looks outrageous and that they would've preferred a more Paul Bunyan look. That was a choice made by PJ, not LEGO. And lastly, Dol Guldur. It looks awesome! It has the same feel as Mines of Moria, with some decent functions and amazing figs. People wanting a massive scale set of a rather boring, ruined fortress seems hilarious. If people want some huge, epic model of the fortress, MOC it. I can never find any real reason to complain about any new sets based on LOTR or The Hobbit. I feel blessed and privileged to even have the chance to own official LEGO Middle-Earth products.
  18. I find it funny how people are STILL doubting a third wave. LEGO won't just stop making sets while they hold the license. If they have it, they will use it. And not giving us any sets based on Gondor is almost a disservice to the fans.
  19. So now that we've got some official images, here are my thought: Dol Guldur Ambush: simple, but effective. This could easily be used as an Orc army builder. The build itself looks nice, although the big swinging hammer and axes on the back of it kinda look stupid. Beorn looks awesome! The hair/beard looks fantastic! Shame he isn't taller. I'll likely get at least two of these. Mirkwood Elf Army: another great set. A nice build, which looks like it allows for additions of more sets to expand the base. Thranduil looks great, as do all of the figs. And the Warg is nice. Probably get two of these. Dol Guldur Battle: Epic! I love it. Lots of new figs! Radagast looks spot on, and Azog is sooo great! The Necromancer looks a bit weird, but my opinion will likely change after I see the movie. All in all, this is a great wave! I can't wait to get my hands on these!
  20. Yeah, I find that complaining for new orcs is kinda silly. Sure, there was some variety in skin colours, but overall they were all just kinda muddy coloured. And, at least to me, unless an orc is a named character (Azog, Yazneg, Gothmog, Grishnakh), all the grunts can be the same. I have no issue with clone orc armies. After all, they are just fodder for Sauron. And these new orcs share the same dark flesh skin colour seen on some of the Indiana Jones baddies. And from the looks of it, Beorn is dark flesh as well. The one thing I find to be wasted potential is LEGO not recycling the swords from the Pharaoh's Quest theme as orc scimitars. http://cache.lego.com/upload/contentTemplating/PharaohsQuestBios/images/pic0D22400E4B427E60D77E451ED00C84EB.png They would've looked a lot better in the hands of these new Gundabad orcs.
  21. The Dol Guldur Battle seems very reminiscent of the Balin's Tomb set we got in the first LOTR wave. 6-7 figs, large grey walls, with some functions that shoot things or blow stuff up. Balin's Tomb, IMO, is one of the best LOTR sets we've gotten, so seeing a set similarly designed is exciting.
  22. That's the cape, I think. And if LEGO had ever intended to give Gandalf a distinguishing hairpiece, they would've done it already.
  23. I would say this wave is just as good because, other than Gandalf and Bilbo, every fig is new. The first wave was pretty much all dwarves, and the the other characters necessary to accompany them in the sets. This time around, we're getting more secondary characters, and completely new orcs and Elves. One thing I noticed is that Beorn looks to be the same size as a normal minifig. That's a major missed chance for LEGO. Just reuse the Toy Story arms and legs. Simple.
  24. Looks like two with hoods/quivers and one with hair. I think that was reported already, back when we heard news of the prelims.
  25. From what I can tell, the box art is beautiful. It seems like we're getting all the figs we've been told about. It also looks like the biggest set (the one on the right, likely the back of the box of Dol Guldur Battle) has an image on the bottom that depicts its length, or perhaps how it can attach to the Dol Guldur Ambush set. Hopefully high resolution pics surface soon (GRogall can't arrive soon enough!)
