10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
brimbolet replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Well somehow Lego manages to make even new prints for BAM figures, so it must be profitable. It's just not consumer friendly if Lego stores don't get interesting parts (e.g. silver falcons) for many months - I drive every 2 weeks regularly to a nearby store, unfortunately always without any luck - and you can't buy them through the online shop too. If you care to compare it with Playmobil’s (cough) online shop, they sell not only figure packs of nearly every theme they ever produced, but sometimes even complete vintage sets that wouldn’t be popular enough at a regular retailer. That's a nice way to treat customers, I think. So a few polybags for very popular historical figures (Lego must make some sort of analysis) that would land at some point in the BAM tower anyway, shouldn’t really be a logistical problem.- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
brimbolet replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Never did I understand why Lego isn't selling small polybags with just 3 figures/9€ through the online shop. Romans, knights, Indians... soo much more money they could make.- 2,976 replies

First LOTR sets have been released 2012 so many many years after the first movie (2001)! So far as I can see no toy company offers sets for the upcoming TV series. Maybe everyone is waiting to see if the show is successful enough? The trailers sure look promising and I certainly would like to see some troll/orcs, eleven & human battlepacks at some point in the future!

Latest CMF series impact on Historic themes
brimbolet replied to SirBlake's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Since I have no personal connection to yellow castle, I'm pretty disappointed Lego decided to bring for the next CMF the crown coat of arms. Lion knights emblems were obviously too much to hope for but also the green/yellow striped or blue/yellow clubs heraldry would have been a much better choice - since they are far more historically realistic. That would have been so much more versatile... sigh -
Wizarding World 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
brimbolet replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
No, I follow HP quite closely, though I must admit I don’t collect it myself, only buy it for gifts. I always considered the box-art to be heavily photoshopped (but based on real bricks) but never 3d renders... -

Can someone please explain, why Lego is showing renderings instead of photos of the finished set on their official site? -

Actually, one of the first sets I spotted on ebay and that pulled me out of my dark ages! Would be cool to see something in that style or even better another sea serpent.

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
brimbolet replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Unfortunately I don't see Castle sets returning for a very long time. Look at kids in your family, among friends etc. how they play, what books they read or what they watch on TV. After the end of Pirates of the Caribbean there's just nothing left regarding historical settings, that a toy company could profit on. And the old school fans can easily be satisfied with one set every two years and some BAM figures. That's why I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for the new LOTR TV series. If it's better than all the lates Star Wars series (which shouldn't be too difficult), then perhaps we'll get something special out of it. Regarding the anniversary set, has anybody already put it next to one of the vintage sets for size comparison?- 2,976 replies

Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion
brimbolet replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Well, it certainly would be nice, but I'm slowly starting to wonder if the whole concept has proven successful enough for Lego to continue. The road plates increased the prices for the sets (sometimes unnecessary), and left the buildings quite simple to put it mildly. The grocery store, one of the better designed sets for instance, feels rather cramped and would be better with a roof instead of a small parking lot. 6wide cars don't fit there anyhow. And it cost the same as the bigger police or fire stations! -

I really don't think those sets were specifically targeted at girls. Girls usually want different toys than boys and vice-versa, even though they can play perfectly with the other ones toy. That's why Friends is so successful to begin with. Lego wanted to give us a new City experience, an expandable town, new road pieces etc. But unfortunately many of these sets are badly designed: a bus with no doors, a school with no roof and wall. Come on... the best thing was probably the grey squirrel and the minifigs... I really hope City will dramatically improve next year. -
10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
brimbolet replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
With the new castle on shelves, do you think the black falcon torsos/shields (from blacksmith set) will return to brick & pieces anytime soon, or will there be the same ban imposed as on the lionknights parts?- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
brimbolet replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
If Lego would produce more than 3 castle related sets in 5 or more years, there wouldn't be such a run in the first place. I for one are really happy with another hideout set... the anniversary set is absolutely beyond my reach, but it looked quite good on display.- 2,976 replies

Excellent Moc and very properly scaled too; the ideas blacksmith is far too big honestly and your inn is just perfect. Thank you for sharing the instructions!

Let's be optimistic. Perhaps Lego finally realizes that castle sets are popular, that kids want to play knights and Robin Hood and for the 100th anniversary we will have a brand new TV show and a new castle subtheme... a minidoll style one for friends

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
brimbolet replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
After reading the interview, I still don't get it. Either Lego has still the machines and production of raised baseplates is possible = designers are allowed to consider them in their design, and it's only a matter of calculation/profit, if raised baseplates will be produced or not. There must have been a reason why they decided to stop adding them in sets in the first place? Or moulds for new raised baseplates have to be made from scratch; then I'd prefer a new goat instead, since you'd probably get 50 goats for a raised baseplate if the pricing trend continues...- 2,976 replies

Buildings, scale 1:25, created by Pinnacle

The size of the MOC is simply breathtaking, not to mention how well it resembles Bruegel's painting! -
I've seen many castles, city walls and gates or their ruins across Europe from west to east, but to my knowledge medieval drawbridges always used a rope or chain (with or without liftarm) to lower the bridge, what can be easily spotted today by the small openings above the gate. Drawbridges with just a counterweight and no visual ropes are very uncommon for this time period, unless I'm mistaken. I would have just added ropes or chains for visual effect in the current set. It's certainly not a big deal but without it the castle entrance looks to me unfinished. The gate also looks too narrow for the ox-cart to pass through. My biggest gripe is the lack of some inner court by the way.

Yes. Somehow I wrongly assumed that more people would've voted for vintage castles in general, so the difference would be 60-40 in favor of the new 10305. Hard to compare it with all the previous smaller castles that were aimed at kids, but personally I don't think 10305 is the best castle up to date. It's certainly the biggest and has plenty of good details, secret passageways etc... but it also has strange design decisions (drawbridge among others). My favorite is the Black Falcon Fortress: expandable with all the great addons during the first waves, it has the first "civilian" structure inside the walls and its roof resembles gothic architecture. Black Knights Castle would be my very close second place. I have similar feelings; with all the various nods towards the glorious castle past something went amiss. It's certainly not some small prints on the figures or even the price, but it lacks in my eyes something special that would make it really rise above all the other castle sets. Anyway I'm really looking forward to see some interesting modifications and expansions of it here on eurobricks.
