Great review Rufus! This one is night and day compare to your 3180! I am really looking forward to getting this set sometime. You make a good point about where you'd see this truck, the airport. Or for that matter, these are the type of trucks that would deliver our fuel for the coal company I worked for years ago. So, they'd be right at home with the new mine sets, as well. Although, these may be used more in Europe with the cab-over design? I don't see too many of those unless they are a smaller commercial trucks (single axle). Most of the larger trucks here have a snout. Either way, this is a great looking truck

A fast and cheap way to store your trains. Here's how.
LEGO Guy Bri replied to robt's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I implemented the same idea, minus bubble wrap, when packing up my collection. The black boxes and 3€ price is tough to beat. Unfortunately for these types of totes near me, come with a price tag of $12-15. I found that wide shallow boxes worked best for me. My LEGO don't see windows and a wider stance keeps the weight spread out over a larger space instead of multiple layers of models on top of each other. It would be a nightmare trying to figure what set lost any small pieces -
Great looking loco daystar! That color variation is very striking

LEGO BNSF (10133) strange font differences with the real thing
LEGO Guy Bri replied to JopieK's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Excellent work on these JopieK! I can't wait to for the Super Chief stickers, judging on how nice the BNSF came out, I'm anticipating great results -

Great job Luke S! Makes me glad I grabbed a second copy. I've always thought LEGO banks were to small. This turned out very nice

"The Dark Ages" - How long were you away from Lego?
LEGO Guy Bri replied to Duck's topic in General LEGO Discussion
My dark age started in 2002, I was starting high school, parties, girls, cars, etc. became much more interesting. My last sets, bought by my parents where the 10036 Pizza-to-Go and 10037 Breezeway Cafe, re-releases from 2002. I did receive 7944 Fire Hovercraft from my brother for Christmas '07. Though not actively collecting, it was nice to build once again, but that would be it until fourth quarter, 2009. Something hit me out of the blue that made me want to look up LEGO on eBay. I found a bunch of old sets, I missed when I was a kid. I also found EB, but only lurked. The first set I purchased was a MISB 10159 Century Skyway. One I really wanted ever since I saw it in a '94 two sided mini mag, but had long been discontinued. Been buying ever since -
Hey, a-t, welcome to EB. I too, am a sole fan to City, City-like, and Train sets as well! Do you have a layout?

Thanks for the quick replies Faefrost, Crownie, and Ricecracker Thats what I figured, regarding 10229. The Winter Village line seems to popular for such a short run. Going back many, many years ago, when I was a kid and saw or heard "sold out" it meant the set was gone for good. So that's what came to mind. I've seen the "retiring soon page; very helpful, and did not see it as one I guess I'll have to pick one up sometime soon. S@H has the back ordered until the 20th. I reckon I have some time and I'm sure eBay or BL won't have ridiculous prices, should I miss it. I wasn't really sure of the life span of those spin-off lines. I came back from my dark age, right as the Farm line (assuming City spin-off) ended, and never paid attention to how long it was available. When you say current pattern, you are referring to them pulling the Winter Village sets until fall? That would be a new one on me, but I could see why. I just bought my first one this year, also never paid attention to their run

Well I'm having a, pardon the lame idiom, dickens of a time, trying to find exactly which thread I'm looking for about set discontinuation... I think this will do. Before I state my question, here is a brief intro for those who don't know. I collect City and City-like sets, exclusively, so obviously I follow sets that interest me. I have a strong interest in the mining theme (I used to work at a coal yard) as well as the most recent Winter Village set with the snow plow. I bought the smaller mining sets I wanted last year, saving the Mine Site as the last to get. I noticed recently, some of those sets have since sold out (i.e. 4202 Mining Truck, also @ LEGO S@H) It seems, 4204 The Mine, may also soon on it's way out. This entire line was released this year, but is looking, from what I can tell, as a very short run... Same goes for 10229 Winter Village Cottage. However, I am not sure about the popularity of the mining sets Here is my question: Are these really on there way out, or are they going to do what the Minecraft set did? Becoming listed as "sold out", jack up in price, then return to "in stock" within a month or so. I mean that Minecraft set almost quadrupled in price... Is this because of the holiday? I know this is a VERY big time of year for LEGO. I just don't want to go out and pay extra (if it's $20-30 over RRP) just to find out, LEGO is just rebuilding it's stock. However, I am not sure of the popularity of mining line as opposed to the Winter Village. That being the reason of their possible early termination. I'm more concerned over the 10229 WV Cottage because of how expensive those sets get when discontinued. But it was only released months ago. I appreciate any advice

To start of the new year I bought 2 of the 30152 Mining Quad's and a BL order. Included CMF's: Diver (early century), DJ, Football Player (U.S.), and the Fitness instructor, as well as a few miscellaneous minifigs, and some parts

Great set of pick-ups wooootles, I really like they're look and size. I've been wanting to work on some new pick up trucks. I was thinking about five wide (for a Dodge-like front), but a full 6, may be more appropriate

Neat truck Lego Amaryl. I like it's design, but it could have used a slightly longer snout. Too bad it is gone... That would be my biggest fear, displaying at a show; very unfortunate

Recommend better forums than Eurobricks...?
LEGO Guy Bri replied to andythenorth's topic in Community
I look at it like this: A complaint followed with a plausible solution = constructive criticism A complaint followed by nothing = whining Simple... I have responded to threads that start with "I don't like, think, etc" when I read one that I can relate to. Whether I agree, or disagree, I try to always leave my opinion on how it could be made better or some alternative. Whether it is taken or left alone, it is still read and given an opinion. These types of threads always seem to get a rise out of people, either viewing them as "yea, I can see where you coming from and either agree or disagree" or "this is just pointless whining". It doesn't bother me either way. I can't say I've been agitated over any one topic or post. I suppose if I did find one, I'd leave it alone and move to the next one. -
MOD/MOC of 7744 Police Station - A work in progress
LEGO Guy Bri replied to gazumpty's topic in LEGO Town
Nice work on the mod gazumpty. I admit Iam not to fond of the way TLG has been designing their PD's with the cells on the outside. Not to mention all that vacant space below. You've made some great changes so far to optimize this space. I'm looking forward to seeing this progress -
Lovely building Kristel! It's very quaint. I am very fond of the use of the modified bley bricks on the exterior. Its a nice touch opposed to the smoothness of regular bricks. Very well done

That looks fantastic Luap31. Definitely need some more photos, but how about some type of aircraft in the sky. Like a jet or dirigible
-
Excellent layout so far, greg3. I really like how you incorporated your abandoned mine MOC. It looks really good. BTW is that the 4999 Vestas set in the fifth pic? Keep up the great work

UVA/UVB Sunblock SPF30... That window tinting isn't a bad idea. Right now, I don't worry about sun. The room my sets are in doesn't have any windows. I was always battling dust. Does anyone use compact air purifiers in their home?

Excellent work Captain K. The dark green with yellow stripe look great together.
