Not enough CMF series a year? CMF Rota Discussion
Agent 86 replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Three per year, one of which is based on a licensed property. For other licensed properties, as Lego seem to be more open to making "people packs" (e.g. "Fun at the Park / Beach / Outdoors" in Lego City and the "Justice League" party set), I'd prefer for them to just make similar "people packs" IF a licensed property genuinely needs / warrants additional minifigures.- 72 replies

Thanks RedHoodPug and PepperoniBricks. I'll hold off trying to track down Lego set no. 76026. As mentioned, the invisible jet build doesn't look particularly impressive. With the growing popularity of Wonder Woman's character, hopefully that will inspire Lego to produce a bigger and better version of her invisible jet (ideally with room for Steve Trevor). Wonder Woman, Steve Trevor, an invisible jet and a brick-built Giganta would be pretty awesome. I guess they'd have to throw in Batman or Superman as well, although perhaps they could give us Batwoman or Powergirl instead?

I hope it's okay to ask this question in this thread - how often does Lego recycle certain, iconic DC superhero sets / vehicles? I'd like to add Wonder Woman's invisible jet to my Lego collection. I know that there was one released in Lego set no. 76026 (Gorilla Grodd goes Bananas) in 2015. And there was also a mini-build for Lego Dimensions and one included with a DC Superhero Girls set. I think there was also a cancelled design which was showcased in a Lego Visual Dictionary in 2012. Is Lego likely to release a new invisible jet for Wonder Woman soon? Or is such a re-release unlikely in the near future because it's not directly Batman-related?

Wow. That's ... odd. I guess it works from a "façade" display perspective, but it doesn't make a lot of sense for Doctor Strange's townhouse to include a pizzeria and Peter Parker's bedroom. Unless that's an actual plot point from the film - Dr Strange tries to "teleport" Spider-man to the townhouse and accidentally teleports his apartment and a pizzeria? Even then, it doesn't make any sense as Aunt May's apartment isn't directly above a pizzeria. I guess it makes "modding" the Sanctum easier as you simply strip out all of the pizzeria interior and mod Peter's bedroom to be Stephen's bedroom. Still, it seems to be a ... unique approach. I had expected two separate, smaller, Creator-esque builds which connected together - one being the Sanctum and the other being the pizzeria and apartment.

The description from mpbricks states "Fold the building closed or open and fix the street corner in different places for alternative scenarios", so I don't think it's on a traditional baseplate. I would guess that it is more like the Lego Creator Bike Shop and Café (https://shop.lego.com/en-AU/Bike-Shop-Café-31026) with one "building" being the double storey mansion and the other being the pizzeria with an apartment above it?

Hmmmmm. A heavily damaged mansion like Bruce Wayne's office. Very interesting!

Sanctum Sanctorum sounds like it could be really cool. I can't wait to see pics, but I'm trying to temper my enthusiasm because the rumoured price point would indicate that the buildings (i.e. mansion, pizzeria and apartment) can't be anything too amazing.

IF the "hotel" slip-up in the Designer Video was a deliberate hint, maybe we'll get an art deco inspired hotel next. Perhaps something like this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/markstephen/16217498951/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/mark1554/3189070295/ Which would potentially have the ability to include a small business or two on the ground floor. -
It's lovely. Very faithful to the original design. But, I hope that the rent for the apartment is cheap! I wouldn't be a fan of having to go outside to access my bedroom and bathroom. And I'm also not a fan of random artists wandering through my apartment to access their attic art studio! Then again, residential living space is so limited in most Modular cities, perhaps the minifigures are just happy to have somewhere to live irrespective of the downsides.

I think they'd fudge it. Sleeping Beauty's Castle would be smaller, but not noticeably so. Although "Disney Castle" is inspired by Cinderella's Castle at WDW, it's obviously not entirely authentic given all of the "themed" rooms inside which have nothing to do with WDW and are only tangentially related to various Disney animated films. I'd imagine that they would follow a similar approach for Sleeping Beauty's Castle. Then again, the fact that they released Cinderella's Castle as "Disney Castle" (instead of using a more distinctive / unique name) perhaps suggest that they never again intend to release another large-scale / D2C "Disney Castle"?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Agent 86 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I don't have the Downtown Diner, but I think it will look okay next to the Detective's Office. Somewhere in this thread, someone far more talented than myself did some mock-ups of the DD next to other Modulars and I thought it looked pretty good next to the DO. -
My main "wish" is for a Sleeping Beauty (Disneyland LA) Castle to compliment the existing Cinderella (Disney World) Castle. A second CMF series released at the same time as the Sleeping Beauty Castle would be great. I could go on and on, but if my entire "wish" list became a reality, my wallet would never forgive me. An ultimate wish would be for a fully enclosed Cinderella (Disney World) Castle, a complete "Modular" Main Street, vehicles for the Main Street, assorted rides including Haunted Mansion, Dumbo, Teacups, Astro Blasters, Thunder Mountain, a railway and the monorail.

Woo hoo! Both of these sound pretty great. I'm looking forward to a new City Hospital. I hope that it can at least rival the recent Friends Hospital. Hopefully, they'll separately release an ambulance as well.

I also prefer the old format for the Designer Videos where they talk about the building, not about themselves. I’d be interested in and happy to watch accompanying “designer” videos about the designers themselves, their history with Lego, any significant sets they designed, etc. But, this was a very odd designer video for the Downtown Diner. And like others mentioned, it’s interesting how Lego’s internal ideas about the Modular line don’t always correlate with what appears to be the majority AFOL view (e.g. including vehicles with Modulars is something desirable). And I know it’s hard to be on top of ALL Lego sets, but it was odd that he’s not aware that the Modular series already has a hotel (albeit one without any interiors). I’d be happy if a future Modular was a dedicated hotel.

I don’t think we’re going to see anything like the Creator Bike Shop and Cafe for a while. I would love to be proven very wrong, but it seems as though the Creator line is moving in a different direction when it comes to commercial and residential builds. Fingers crossed that I’m wrong!

I'm quite late to the party, but I finally finished building my Disney Castle / Cinderella's (WDW) Castle. It was a great build. I took my time with it (and had to put it away a few times due to guests, etc since I build at the dining room table). It's impressively sized, but I was a little ... disappointed by how thin / narrow the upper floors are. I was hoping for more room to display the Disney CMF series within the castle. The small rooms are pretty well take up by furnishings. The level of detailing on the façade continually impressed me, even if some of it got a little repetitive to build. I really hope that Lego is considering releasing the Disneyland LA / Sleeping Beauty's Castle as well. Heck, I'd buy an entire Main Street and assorted rides, but it seems best to just focus on the other iconic castle at this time.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Agent 86 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Thanks for those. Does anyone know what was being said at the start of the first video? Something about originally planning / designing the 2018 Modular, but they deemed it too similar to one of the buildings in Assembly Square so it has been shelved for now? Very interesting that they were originally trying to do a car dealership. I can understand why they set it aside, mainly due to space issues. Still, it would have been nice to get a business other than another food-related business. I also found it interesting that the designer said, I think it was in the second video, that he doesn't know what makes the Modulars so appealing. I would have thought Lego would do market research about that? Otherwise, what prompted them to substantially increase the level of interior detail at the cost of smaller / less grand facades and footprints for the buildings? Or perhaps that was just the designers preference? It's odd that the designer acknowledges that Modulars are typically displayed on a shelf (when he mentions that no-one usually sees the back), but they're still focusing so much on the interiors at the expense of the exterior. Finally, in the first video, I think one of the questioners mentioned that Jamie used to do similar talks explaining the development of earlier Modulars. Does anyone know where to find those? I can only seem to find the "official" designer videos which simply explain the set, not the development process. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Agent 86 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I like it. And I'll definitely be buying it. BUT, I hope that the 2019 Modular is a single purpose building. I want one, big building done really well, whether it's a police station, post office, museum, library, school, cottage hospital, apartment building or something else. I understand that "variety is the spice of life" and I guess it's more interesting for the designers to have multi-purpose buildings, but I miss the older, grander structures like Town Hall, Fire Brigade and Grand Emporium. I'm not sold on the unique faces, although it's a pretty good justification for adding more CMFs to my Modular street. And I don't love the open stairs on the LHS. I'm thinking about adding a 16 x 32 baseplate with some greenery and outdoor seating for the diner on the LHS. Maybe even a car park or two for the carhop to deliver meals to. Otherwise, I think this is going on the RHS of the Detective's Office. It seems to fit the ramshackle, American vibe of the DO better than any of the other Modulars. I am pleased that the "story" isn't so obvious, unlike the money laundering and drug (cookie) smuggling from prior sets. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Agent 86 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Interesting. I look forward to (hopefully) seeing official images soon. I don't know what to make of the LHS of this Modular. There isn't enough sidewalk for it to be a true "corner" because there is nowhere for the pedestrians - it's take up by the stairs. But, there also doesn't appear to be a low wall for the standard Technic pin connectors. -
Very nice. I think the multiple elements - open street market / florist, butcher, lawyer's office and apartment work well together. Much better in the Detective's Office. I do feel for the first floor lawyer who is trapped behind her desk. And I'm not a huge fan of the open air toilet in the apartment, especially since it's so close to the staircase!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Agent 86 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Other, far smarter / more creative people than me, have theorised that the entire front façade was built using SNOT techniques to hide the traditional "line breaks" between the floors. So, the floors would still be capable of being lifted off one by one, but you just can't *see* the breaks between the floors when viewing the building from the front. It would be a new direction for the Modular buildings, just like the expressive faces.
