  1. Its a nice idea - yet indeed, there are ways to "work around" this using square tiles diagonally etc for some floor techniques...so not much interest in those from my side. But since you are allready printing: why not print wheels for cars? Full PLASTIC in existing diameters- something TLG really forgot about lately- anyone who wants Lego RC cars with drifting needs those in their builds for certain reasons: rubber has too much friction for the small weight of any lego MOC! And with all the super weak child friendly Lego motors you never get the power to have zentrifugal force > rubber friction (for a drift) Simply assemble some cool tires with rubber and you have your full "template".
  2. What an excellent review! I totally get your point - back in a day i would have never wanted one. But i once saw the sets life during that era at a stayover - i remember seeing the poolside paradise and all the superiour parts it had compared to standard city! I bet they could just reissue those sets and sell em massively^^ That colour setting is so harmonic and hypnotising. I find it really stress relieving xD Also really cool to open a set you knew has been sealed for a quarter century - i can see die hard collectors crying;) Since you dig paradisa, feel free to check my stream! I did some Mocs as a tribute;)
  3. very excellent. That front windowing is spot on, as its always the hardest area, this one went over pretty neat! congrats
  4. have you made use of jumper plates for that issue yet?
  5. many thanks Blake! much appreciated!
  6. Many thanks! Thank you, glad it does! Thanks! Hm yeah, allthough it would be needed to create a CIty universe around the cars in this case - most modulars dont really match its scale of 1/42 frankly... Was a long way of actually getting something small like that done, wouldnt have imagined that to be possible when i started 2 years ago^^ So now, even getting a smaller vehicle done, the Nissan 300 ZX. Its about 178 cm wide so i decided that 5 wide would be very suiting in that case, since full 5 studs = 170 cm, but 6 studs allready 200 cm. Not keen on making the inbetween scale^^ Nissan 300 ZX by Ron Dayes, auf Flickr Nissan 300 ZX by Ron Dayes, auf Flickr Nissan 300 ZX by Ron Dayes, auf Flickr
  7. true my bad, i miscounted the length. Its a hard one though, it certainly is short for its width (allthough it doesnt look like it) - so everything done right! hm yeah, we dont really have such great windshields in 6 wide - only that half circle one, but that always ends up in a roof problem since its better used on cabrios etc. The rest is pretty much straight or too big. Indeed, i bet the figs fitting in is definately better on the 8 wides and allows more fun features - maybe even 2 figs into the Ford GT 40? ;-)
  8. i feel you - seems that the town forum is rather a place to discuss and hypothesize about possible sets coming out one day instead of taking interest in peoples MOCs. Those threads have like a post every hour, while many mocs seem to get lost in the stream (unless its a modular mod or giant layout;) ) well... As for your MOCs . 8 wide is definately a way to go with these rims - the width looks great! Just the length is somehwat troublesome imo.... If you increase the width, you'll need to increase the length by an even greater amount than the width to get the proportions more close to the real thing. On a top view this might look a lil short now? While i find the windscreen on the Ford GT very fitting, i find the GT 2016 too narrow - i think both should have similar windscreens in 6 widish manner, considering the GT 2016 is the wider car of them both. However, great idea! Looking forward to new additions of the product line ;-)
  9. That would be very neat for like a smaller ideas set next to the bigger ones like the caterham etc. great part usage! Definately supported! :D BTW, i think this is the wrong forum for it, considering the scale this should fit right into the special themes forum and its non-city scale creations!
  10. Hi there! This topic is going to be showing you a few car MOCs in a rather different approach to build small Lego cars. Intentionally building cars for minifigs to fit in, i never could get it right for the cars overall proportions. So i decided to just focus on the overall shape/design and left the figs out. Mathmatically i found out that 1/42 is the scale i wanted and i played around with that ;) I usually used to post some of these type of 1/42 scale cars in the town forum, but on further thought its not the right scale for typical "town" or "city" MOCs/Sets. So simply said, i dont think these should be in the "town forum" any longer... I will just call it "small scale" from now on and not "minifigure-" or "micro scale" as i did a year back, since they dont aim to fit minifigs or their surroundings and are bigger than 4 and 5 wide tiny turbo mocs. However, they happen to look good next to figs, so dont wonder if you will see some figs next to them for scale comparisson. 11. ^^ that would be something ;)
  12. I think, if you read your sentence again, and look at what TLG currently is doing with the modular line, i wonder how you imagine that to happen? not meant offensive and i wont nail you on it, but TLG leaves nothing to the "creativity" of the buyer. They produce finished products to a reasonable price! I never knew or heard of any kid building the (most often less attractive) alternates or wanting an "empty building" set so they can be creative themselves and fill that with their allready owned (old and perhaps few) bricks. Details like Interiour and stuff is what actually makes any set appealing to most buyers, kids and adults alike! I strongly believe thats why after Cafe Corner, they invested into designing an interiour and to certainly not make it "empty". Allthough to support our own creativity is what those bricks were originally made for, TLG knows they need to make sure that even the least creative person can enjoy an excellent, well balanced build- and if its just for standing around and catching dust. Especially in times were Legos arent the only toy kids play with (PC games etc.), detail, playability and function is more important to them, than even the right look and proportions of something. I find that only logical. Besides, TLG is getting better and better concerning their amount of detail, parts and building techniques. An empty skyscraper set would be a major step back (remember when old 80ies City buildings almost had no interiour?...) For AFOLs a set like that wouldnt be "a bad call" from TLG - but ey, thats why we have bricklink etc. and those sites dont really post a threat to them. Also, we AFOLs and fans arent their biggest market. And if we are serious, do we really want to see an empty modular building again? Keeping in mind that we are able to order the needed parts ourselves or simply buying a few sets of the same type to add height... If they were to go a step further, TLG could try a modern modular building - which we can then buy to stack until we reach the wanted height ;) But an empty and high modular building at the standard modular price - i guess we wont ever see that...
  13. yeah, seems city scale is more to your liking ;) That SC build aint the best in proportion, but otherwise it would fit in well with the offical ones... Thanks man! Glad you like it! Yeah perhaps 2nd place^^, it definately aint no match for your pagani you won the contest with! That was a sraight A+ - but at least we get updates for LDD now, back then it seemed like the programm was doomed to die. Funny though the old Agera even made 3rd place or 4th for not being an "actual" SC since it didnt meet the criteria. I hear you on this. The "Speed Champions" tend to look much better if you size em down to city scale with the older mudguards. Simply because of the proportion shift to a more real look. I tend to see it as the product line bringing us new parts for MOC ideas i can now finally complete (digitally). Many of those new parts i really have longed for about a decade to happen :P BUT its quite fun building the sets in real life. I was amazed how good they look compared to cars they made before them ;) Keep on building mate! 14. Yeah, since it "only" reached 300 bucks (which some high end sets tend to costs and people tend to afford) - if further serves as a celebration set of the modular line, which is why they made it bigger this one time. I can hardly imagine they'd do that again until its time to -well - celebrate again;) Its literally a gift to fans, imo not something they'd consider on a yearly routine or to even expand and enlargen general modular sets in the future...
  15. Thanks for the praise! yeah, exactly - its the same height as the Corvette. I thought i make it exactly as high since all speed champions seem to share the same height somehow. I also did different approaches on this one in city scale being less high and more "realistically" proported. Maybe you like that one better City Scale Koenigsegg Agera.lxf by Ron Dayes, auf Flickr
  16. Hi, This is my new attempt at a car i build quite a long time ago. Back then LDD didnt have the rims and wheels sizes - Now we have em, so i finally gave it another round ;) Enjoy! 17. Well, you can "simply" buy 2 modular sets and stack em - thats probably why TLG made it "modular" and went with that name. It has that purpose... That further excluded them doing skyscrapers, since the easy option is out there and depends on the money you have. With the same piece count and detail, a 6 story building wouldnt be possible for the usual pricing of a modular, or be so narrow that it wouldnt fit well next to the recent ones. From a marketing point of view it wouldnt make much sense i suppose... For example the grand emporium doubled on top each other would make a nice office building?
  18. An amazing build, indeed the costs must have been massive for this!
  19. Hi, This is my newest 1/42 scale model of a Ferrari Testarossa (ish^^). Without the grilles its hardly a rossa, but if one would add custom stickers on a real one, it could turn into one ;) The whole build is 5 wide in front and ends in 6 wide at the rear end and taillights. I also rendered my first 360° view and arranged a small video clip for it. Enjoy! 20. perhaps i might know a bit I ll stay tuned for that audi! Cheers and have fun building!
  21. excellent design! would have killed for that in the 90ies ;-) Especially the abilitiy to flip the cabin forward- sweet!
  22. Nice f1 car - good choice not trying to jam a minifig torso into this thing! Only using the head keeps it low as it needs be! Good job! Great house aswell - or should i say "living garage"? ;-)
  23. hmm, in my opinion too narrow to even fit next to 4 wide cars - at least 5 wide would be needed for a vehicle of that size so it doenst look deformed. Apart from that, it has the classic appeal using the rather "old" parts here and there... Any certain reason this is built in 4 wide? i bet this wouldnt have been a problem doing in 6 wide? can u tell us more about your decision building it like that? cheers!
  24. Hi all, Here comes a micro build of a crusing yacht. I wanted to do something with very few bricks, like a 8 - 15 piece challenge. To present it, i wanted some brick build water in a "wave" formation, to give it some realism. Instruction pic included. enjoy :D Feel free to ask, comment etc... micro yacht by Ron Dayes, auf Flickr micro yacht instructions by Ron Dayes, auf Flickr
  25. hm, yeah - critique well deserved on this one! The nose aint my favorite on this one either, not having that on the same level is a pity. Maybe a 2x1 tile with an oval sticker on it would be the better choice to smoothen that out... I measured the wheelbase and length - its almost absolutely accurate! It might appear long, but its for example a whole stud less in length than my Aventador - which is about 30 real cm in that scale^^. The thing that is, hmmm, rather unlucky, is the "missing" of something more "slanted/curvy" at the tail from a side view. Maybe a cheesepiece inverted beneath it could be an option....
