Sheesh. Some people (or donkey-eared space aliens in this case) just never learn. The yellow frog might be dangerous but that croc doesn't exactly look as friendly as a librarian - and then there are pirates to contend with too. Why doesn't he stay in the universe he belongs in?!

VOTING THREAD Warzone 10: The Battle for Petraea
Captain Dee replied to MassEditor's topic in Guilds of Historica
Fresh off his commanding Triple Crown performance at the Brickmont Stakes, the Desert King is running away with it again atop his trusty steed, "Ameribricks Pharoah" and looks to have this one all wrapped up! CB, you have all the makings of the Petraea Derby with your trademarked MOAs. The hostilities will be over soon and it would give them something to do if the DK's campaign ends successfully... -
[Cat D; DK] Flag Parade at Sultan's Gate
Captain Dee replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Guilds of Historica
Color me impressed with both the number and the variety. I especially like the fact that you've included so many women since they haven't exactly been common during this whole process. Showing all the minifigs from large builds is a great idea and I wish more people would do it. But only 4 monkeys?! Are you feeling well? Someone call a doctor, quick!- 35 replies

This is a pretty good portrayal of the scene - big enough to be serious and detailed enough to really make viewers focus closely while not so big as to be overwhelming in terms of building, cost, and presentation. Not that there's anything wrong with the truly gigantic depictions, but this would certainly be easier and it captures the look well. Good work!

This looks like a nice, quiet setting... just perfect for studying. The few details look great and give the impression that the scholar is serious about his studies. Both the bookcase and table are pretty basic but they still look fine. Good work.

Every one of these is excellent. The use of natural colors and especially textures is just superb. The rockwork in the first is just incredible. The second is probably boring to most viewers but it's very well built and besides, my grandpa farmed with horses in the '30s so it's not that far beyond our time! In terms of overall portrayal "A Delicious Distraction" and "Noisy Neighbors" don't need any explanation and that's part of what makes them so good. Both are built exceptionally well with their multiple scenes and richness of details. The ruins look great too but the carpenter just might be my favorite. I prefer domestic scenes and it's a nice, peaceful depiction of a common trade and the roof technique is wonderful. Excellent work!

The tents are excellent, especially the big round one. The designs could be used for lots of different settings. But the army of Romans is equally impressive. Mentioning Spartacus has me wondering if this is a stand-alone build or part of a story? Impressive work either way!

This is an instantly recognizable scene and it's very well built. The wall of water crashing down on the Egyptians looks spectacular and the posing of the soldiers caught in it is some of the best I've ever seen. The chariots are nice and the minimalist base makes a decent sea bed. The Israelites are well represented too although I question if red hair was common among them. Excellent work!

Here they come toward the final turn and it looks like de Gothia is in the lead but or de Gothia? is right behind him by half a length and they're around the turn with de Gothia on the inside and or de Gothia? is now pulling across his flank and gaining as they pound their way down the backstretch and de Gothia is giving it all he's got and they're separated by a nose as they cross the line and the crowd is on its feet and roaring and... it's too close to call!! Photo finish by de Gothia and or de Gothia? here at the Petraea Derby!! I'm filing a complaint with the officials. Clearly this outcome was rigged! -
The Algus Saga: The Beacon of Arnarvhall
Captain Dee replied to mccoyed's topic in Guilds of Historica
The overall scene is built very well and the concept for the beacon is unique. The fire and smoke both look great. I really like that tower and I hate to see it go up in smoke. The base and vegetation are very good, especially the rock steps. Excellent work!- 16 replies

White is always a good color to use with tans and greys. You've added enough texture to the base to keep it interesting but the path is perhaps a bit too geometric. The trees, while basic, certainly do the job and the CMF fits the scene well. Is the temple intended to be functional or something like old ruins?

Ah. Now yer talkin'! She looks very nice overall and having a complete view of the rigging is a huge visual improvement. My apologies regarding the guns - what you have looks pretty sensible to me. All she lacks is a good crew. Where do I sign up?!
-
What's visible in this one pic looks pretty good and the color scheme is nice. It's definitely not lacking for firepower - although full custom guns might be more appropriate considering the small size of the vessel. I'll wait for the rest of the photos to offer any other input. Congrats on the baby and keep on building!

The overall scene is somewhat simple but it still looks pretty good. I like the white building best and the white atop the wall looks really nice. You've certainly managed to use a lot of color and the road is good. But the posing really helps bring it to life. Nice work.

The Abode of Maester Harry the Hallucinating Healer
Captain Dee replied to Legonardo's topic in Guilds of Historica
"Texture" is the one word that springs to mind. Of course it's colorful too. The hat-roof looks like something from a storybook and the various details are nice. Good work! -
Indeed that would be a gigantic monument. The microscale looks pretty good and the crown makes this instantly recognizable. Doing this full scale would take a few pieces, no?
-
Cute little scene. The footprints are really nice. I'm rather illiterate when it comes to parts - I didn't know the spears came in trans light blue, and it certainly works in this setting.

[WZ10:F9 Ulandus] Divide and Conquer!
Captain Dee replied to Garmadon's topic in Guilds of Historica
The textures of the wall and road are both pretty good and the decorated roof is nice. The border is creative and I like the repeated use of gold accents. The posing really shows the action and makes a nice contrast between the different factions. Good work.- 20 replies

I really liked the architecture of the official set even though it was obviously too small. This is definitely scaled better while retaining the look, plus the added details are nice. And having two full trees improves the overall depth of the setting. Nice work... even though I don't really like the theme itself. P.S. If four sets are truly needed to do it right (as mentioned above) then I could do this a couple times myself...

Enchanted Forest Diorama - Arte em Peças 2015
Captain Dee replied to cesbrick's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Nope, sorry. I don't like it. Ha! Had you for a second... Seriously, that is one huge display. That in itself isn't really unique but the fact that you've tried to detail everything and add so much variation to so much terrain is incredible. Builds like these rank among the most creative and artistic in the Lego world. The layout is superb and all the different components are wonderful. I can forgive the somewhat sparse landscape; after all, creating the dense forest look is a quick way to use a vast amount of specialized parts. I think it's fine the way it is. Your use of color and texture is second to none and the river is an exceptionally good addition to the scene. It all looks so pastoral and peaceful. Excellent work! -
[WZ10:F9, Desert King] The Final Battle
Captain Dee replied to Jacob Nion's topic in Guilds of Historica
The sudden change from grey tiles to tan plates looks a little odd but otherwise this is a beautiful depiction. The buildings all look good with their different colors and architectural styles; I especially like the one on the left. But the sheer number of minifigs and all their various accessories and poses really make this a lively scene indeed. As already stated, the positioning of the onrushing opposing forces, just before they meet in battle, transforms the overall mood of the scene. Likewise I'll echo the thought that the presentation would be better if such a strong light wasn't flooding through the archway (but I like the light coming through the windows!). Oh, and congrats on being frontpaged. Good work! -
This is a very nice colorful addition to the (historic) Friends world. I really like the huge bed of pink flowers but the garden and trees are pretty good too. The small details like the butterfly, apple basket, curved-fence ladder, swing and laden pony all add considerably to the scene. The tiled and umbrella roofs and custom flag are neat as well. Does anyone else think that the house looks like a big piece of cake? Good work.

I've never really liked all the big skull creations (from TLG or builders) but this is creative and makes good use of the parts to form something unique. The "ears" and crown are both interesting and the entire build makes a decent tower. Nice work for a first time.

I'm happy to see this coming back to life. It was first posted about halfway through my time lurking around this site and Classic-Pirates. After viewing so much material it all starts to run together at some point but this is one that always stood out in my mind. It's one of the best Lego forts I've ever seen. The building techniques and details are excellent, and the size and scale are truly big enough to be a fort and not just another outpost. The new additions look lovely as well. Again, the combination of good techniques and details really make the scene visibly arresting. The entire arrangement makes good use of color throughout. The variety of minifigs and buildings are nice (I actually prefer domestic settings over military subject matter, although I like both). As part of the full diorama, the city/town would more fully balance the setting if it was a little bigger. That might sound foolish considering the total size and piece count, but still the fort overwhelms the rest of the scene. The original post (from May of last year) states that the finished diorama will be 12x8; if that is ever realized then the rest of the scene should balance the fort very well. And it just might make the best single-builder pirates display ever! Excellent work, pretoriano, both on the fort and the rest of the scene! I'm anxious to see the rest of what you have planned.

This countering business has gotten sophisticated - to the point that they've become almost mirror images of the originals, which is good. The concept is a bit futuristic but it's well built - or at least balanced well enough for a quick photo! I hate to see a good ship burn but I suppose that's all part of the price of war. Next time they'd better try a more favorable wind, huh? Nice work.
