  1. I knew what you meant but I couldn't resist. The standard black tricorne is my favorite headgear but I agree, the morion is the coolest. They frequently don't fit the Pirates theme time period but they're still a really nice helmet. Pity Lego produced so few sets with them. The Armada hardly qualified as a faction but at least we have a few to pick from.
  2. The irregular tower is nice, and the rocks look good, but I'm drawn to the waterfall and churning water. It just looks so cool and inviting. Good work.
  3. I'm no fan of LotR but this is an amazing creation regardless. The first few photos don't do it justice. The trees and the rest of the base look simplistic - until you see them close up and realize how detailed they are, and suddenly this thing looks monstrously large! The open back with all the fine details exposed was a really good idea. This should make an excellent display piece but to play with it you might need a scaffold or a bunk bed! We've seen several huge builds from this theme (like the minifig-scale Helm's Deep with its thousands of figs) and this is an incredible companion to what must surely be titled the "ultra" class of builds. Excellent work and good luck transporting and displaying.
  4. Ah - so she has an identity after all! You are quite good at these small scenes. The tree design is pretty good but the trunk looks a little large for the amount of leaves. Keep it up.
  5. This is simply beautiful. The overall composition is nice but the level of detailing and texture really makes it superb. There's simply no bare space. The landscape is lovely with all the different plants and rocks and the little stream is nice. But the house is the main focal point and it looks excellent. The roof is great but the walls are just incredible. That took patience - and possibly a little in the way of "language arts." Excellent work!
  6. This looks like a fun build. The castle looks pretty basic but it's still a nice, solid design. I really like the landscape and its rich detailing. The angled bridge, stream and path look great and the stump with mushrooms growing on it is a good idea. And of course the action is well done. Good work.
  7. This is a nice castle and an excellent play set. The design is really good and the build techniques give it a reasonable amount of surface texture. All the details are good, especially considering that many play sets wouldn't have them. Good work - and keep it up!
  8. Yep, those greencoats sure are a bunch of morons. But their morion helmets are nice!
  9. Due to the momentary lull here in the Pirates world I'm going to leave a reply to this post even though it is by now a relic from the Stone Age. The pictured vessel is OK, but RTN LNA's body of shipbuilding work is one that has stayed in my mind since first viewing it as a lurker late in 2013. I frequently find myself drawn to rare or unusual material, and his brilliant paddle steamer and monitor both left very good impressions. I realize most shipbuilders on this forum prefer earlier vessels, but it's nice to see a little more variety occasionally and RTN had just that. A while back I was digging through the old ship index and upon seeing he had created it my mind was drawn to the collection from Phred's response. Somehow I didn't expect an index from him but he certainly did a pretty good job of it. I believe he was a true ship lover - and he left his mark in a very good way.
  10. Professional indeed. This whole series of reviews is just about perfect. They're very smooth and don't spend a lot of time on unneccesary stuff - just the basics. Excellent presentation.
  11. This just might be my favorite set from the new wave and the review is superb yet again. Apparently the bluecoats are really hungry on that little outpost! Good work and keep it up.
  12. Excellent stop-motion review - except for the aforementioned mislabeled minifigs. I know it takes time but it looks like it would be fun to do and the results are terrific. Good work!
  13. These stop-motion reviews are nice. They don't replace conventional reviews but they do compliment them quite well. Good work!
  14. That's pretty impressive for a first attempt. Who knew the old bluecoats had advanced tech? The classic gag is perfect for something short like this. Good work!
  15. These historically correct builds are my favorite. That's an impressive army and I like seeing them in formation somewhere besides just a flat field or tabletop. The building looks great even if the build techniques are fairly simple. I especially like the streaks on the roof and the door and windows are nice. The base is pretty simple and I'd like a few more details such as flowers or grass, but that's a minor concern. Other than that this is lovely. Good work!
  16. Thanks for the pics! I was mostly interested in how you achieved such a smooth look and this certainly shows how. It's interesting how one basic concept allows the hull to curve out and down but it's not really that complicated.
  17. For a quick build this turned out very well. The staircase is brilliant and the various bookcases are nice. The windows and large half arches are good architectural elements. The irregular base is unique and looks cool. It may be somewhat small for council chambers but I think it looks fine with all the included details. And the story is well-written as always. Good work.
  18. That's a lovely setting with lots of nice details and it illustrates the story well. The use of sunlight and strong shadows fits the description, although it also obscures part of the scene. The fleeing wagon looks pretty good and I also like the stones being thrown up behind. There are lots of stories going on and this sounds interesting. Good start!
  19. That certainly looks like a contemplative setting. The tree and other vegetation are excellent and the story is very well-written. The colors are nice and the various camera angles and depth of focus provide an impressive presentation. Good work!
  20. First, the beacon itself: it's a very neat, clean design and would have to be highly visible atop such a tall tower. The volume of fire looks appropriate for the intended function. The tower design is pretty basic but it still looks good with the small variation in color and texture. The microfigs on the corners are a neat touch and the different windows and arches are nice. I would like a full overview photo but I understand the limited presentation if it's part of something bigger. Good work.
  21. I can only echo the thoughts of everyone else - the base is beautifully unique in those colors and the tree looks really good. Your storytelling is excellent again and the variety of photos really illustrates it well. Good work all the way around!
  22. The Sea Rats/Pirates faction really took off after a slow start, but I suspect the naturally relaxed structure (compared to the others) might have something to do with that. Seeing Eslandola and Corrington closely matched looks like natural randomization... until you look at Oleon's supporters! Talk about imbalance! If it truly plays out that way the first two factions are going to have their hands full. Anyone think it's mostly due to the blues being new, or do you think there's just that much more support for them, period? Either way it looks like a collection of curious matchups. Time will tell...
  23. The huge beacon complex is exceptionally good, from the architecture to the colors to the textures. The different greys and tans really look good together when arranged as artfully as this. The overall design fits the limitations of the baseplate very well - but the lack of detailing on the base really looks odd to me when supporting such a richly detailed build. Sure, the built-in steps are nice, but otherwise the base detracts more than it adds to my eyes. Perhaps a less-detailed build would match it better. At any rate, the overall project is very good and the beacon itself is marvelous. Excellet work!
  24. This has a wonderful classic look from the colors to the shapes and building style. The different buildings are nice, the main base has a massive armament and plenty of space for the soldiers, and the docks/pier are nicely done. And you have a far more appropriate amount of palm trees than the single always featured in the standard sets. Looks like fun - now all you need is a few ships to complete the scene. Good work!
  25. Mark, your overview photos just might be the best in the business. And your building style is not only exceptionally good but also exceptionally consistent and recognizable. The building on the left in the main photo is one of the best non-governmental buildings I've ever seen from that time period. You have possibly the best dense vegetation while being somewhat simple and your trees are beautifully unique as usual. The base is its usual irregular excellence. The minifigs are unique and well-posed - but the fact is, this setting is so good you don't even need them, and that is greatness. "Master Builder", simply superb!
