[TC16] MPATEV-01
syclone replied to syclone's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@ArsMan064 Sure will! @iLego Thank you, that was fixed in my previous update ;) @agrof Thank You very much, served me as an inspiration for one of the attachments Aaaaaand another update! No changes to the main vehicle, however made two attachments so far. 1. Exo-suit transporter. The crane rotates 360° and can be used to transport the exo-suit. There's also a small crate with tools and two spotlights - one on each side. The exo-suit folds down for ease of transport and a minifig can be placed inside. 2. Rescue towing attachment. Can be raised using the mini LA, rotated about 270° and hooked up for transport. A couple of comparison photos for now, more attachments in development! -

@I_Igor @Bartybum @Samer Thank you all very much, glad to hear people like it!!!! Aaaand update agaaaaaain!!!! Completed everything mentioned in my previous update and done some more! Photos w/ descriptions below! First of all I'm mostly done&happy with overall bodywork, it has some holes here and there but I'm not a modern "perfectionist", specially considering my preference of 00's sets . Filled in some of the most visible gaps with tiles tho, gotta keep up with modern trends somehow heheh. The rear is now secured well and can support the full weight (about 900g - 1kg) of the model, making it very easy to carry it, althought you'd probably want to rip around with two buggy motors mwahahaha The rear wheel got an updated support fork and a mudguard - also it can be removed (sorry, no photos yet, but it just leaves the 5x7 frame with the turntable on it) as most of the weight is over the tracks, giving them good grip. Removing the wheel gives some space under the rear of the body, allowing to place some sort of cargo to be hauled there -> +1 function I got there. Continuing with modular abilities is the rear itself - the 3l axles w/stud can be removed allowing the placement of different modules there (below is a WIP module installed there) The turning angle is goo and is limited by the rear of the main body to avoid the wheel getting stuck or over-turning. Now, onto less practical stuff: Following my plan, bionicle eyes headlights w/PF were done, not sure whether to keep them blue or change to clear ones (latter ones don't stand out as i would've liked). Attached below a photo with them turned on. The front canopy can be opened up, as well as a small access hatch behind it (that's what the 2x4 beam is for). Being this a *quote* "Out of this world" vehicle, I went for Exo-Force minifigs - Ha-Ya-To&Hikaru - (just love these faces tbh, would've loved to have more of these available ) hence the change to 01 in the name, to match with their body prints. Still need to detail it more though. Towards the middle of the body over the exhausts area, two service panels are openable revealing... something somewhat technical-looking maybe And of course, the underside! There are less colours than you probably expect, I'm a self-proclaimed Devil Lord of black chassis' afterall ! (still need sum black frames n' bushes ) From now on most progress will be towards the attachments, interior and minor cosmetics (stickers/gap filling) , update tomorrow or next day! Cya all!!! -

Hi-yaa!!! Uuuuuuuuupdate! After some thoughts, decided not to waste my money on a cockpit and used one in my collection, which mixed in really well due to it orange colour - same colour scheme from Mars Mission . Changed up the track design as well, legthening it by 2 studs on the rear, adding a support wheel and making an inclination on front allowing for better terrain attack. The design... well, let's say the drawing were more inspirational than anything , ended up using single centralised cab goinfg from the front all the way over the rear wheel, as well as making grilles on the rear-most of the lateral protrusions (#21 2x5 panels). The cab still needs to be fixed on the front because as of right now, it is only fixed with 2 pins on the 5x11 diagonal panel. Additionally, I'm not happy with how the lights look right now - not very futuristic. I have in mind placing transparent bionicle eyes (teeth pieces) on the empty pinholes on #1 panels on front and on the same location where the lights are mounted now place a pinhole w/ single pin and there place the LEDs. The mounting of the rear wheel needs to change as well, probably will add a few #17/18 or #5/6 panels. Tbh this turned out to more of an exploration vehicle that probably would be used to make reconnaissance missions rather than transport cargo or scientific equipment heheh. Pictures posted below, cya later!!! -

If one needs base data of real counterparts, imo PhiloHome is the best and most reliable source so far. -
[TC16] MPATEV-01
syclone replied to syclone's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hewo, update time! Motorcycle wheels were definitely too large, so I ended up using Zerobricks' idea: Tumbler wheel with two 680c01 threads on it (will try to change if it is considered illegal in contest rules topic). Steering is done via an m-motor geared down 3'889:1 mounted in-between drive motors. Buwizz' temporal placement is right beside the motors and rear wheel. Next step would be to use the spare PF output for scientific equipment of some sort and start with the body. Pics&test vid below, cya later! -

Thank you very much @Jim&@I_Igor! Progress: Built second half and did a small test drive. Even geared down it is very fast. small links seem to hold up nicely even on a blanket while being forced sidewards while tank steering. Current width - 18 studs. Also found a suitable canopy - 16477 Now to figure out a steering mechanism for the rear wheel. -
MPATEV-01 -> Multi Purpose All Terrain Vehicle 01 LDD file DOWNLOAD The attachments and other photos: WIP TOPIC MPATEV-01 -> Multi Purpose All Terrain Vehicle 01 Hello there! haven't been on the forum for some time and seeing such a contest pop up was a truly delight. Of course first ideas were of the movies "Martian", "Avatar", and "Interstellar", and the idea of building a spaceship seemed exiting. Therefore, i made a sketch of a VTOL transport ship: However building a freighter or a spacestation didn't exite me so much afterall (absolutely nothing to do with my unfinished tc15 plane ) so the next obvious idea was a rover. A human-manned one of course. Seeing that the currents WIPs were using wheels, I had a quick browse through lego sets of space/sci-fi themes and quickly found the Exo-Force 8118. It had a combination of double tracks in front and a single wheel in back that got me interested, as it was unusual and cool-looking, so this sketch came to life: It was originally planned to use brick-built tracks on front but small track links with turntables for central wheels should work. Most probably double offroad motorcycle tyres on rear (better start saving up for PP wheels duh). Obviously doubly buggy motors with 1.667:1 reduction + nuclear reactor BuWizz to power this thing. Current progress:

macOS 10.15 Catalina and LDD ?
syclone replied to M2m's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
As said above, it is recommended to use another 3D builder, but it is possible to install Wine and launch Windows' version of LDD in it (Wine allows you to run Windows applications in macOS or linux). I'm no Apple expert tho, so don't take my word for it. -
Technic 2019 Set Discussion
syclone replied to dimaks13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
i'd prefer a few reasonably priced, well-made sets than a bunch of crap coming out lately... Not that making 400$ sets without a remote ain't cool, it is annoying to get too much of it. -
1. Which is more important (1) Torque(strength) (2) Speed -> Gotta Go Fast! 2. Size(Size and torques are in semi-parallel relationship) (1) 2x2(Micro motor size) (2) 2x4(S size) -> the aforementioned picture would be amazing (3) PF Series's was fine, just need more torque 3. Shape (1) Round (Like XL Motor) (2) Square(Like Old Lego Motor) (3) Oval(Like M Motor, Flat Bottom Type) -> idem answer 2 4. Building type (1) Pin & Hole (2) Stud & Tube (3) Axle & Axle Hole 5. the unit of length (1) odd number(etc. 3x5x5) -> more fitting of technic line (2) even number(etc. 2x4x4) 6. Power Supply Method (1)PF1 -> one of the most conveiet and ubiquitous (2)PF2 So what if there was a third-party motor with better performance? 1) If the performance is good, it can be purchased. 2) Because it is not Lego, it is not purchased. As of right now [IMO] , there's a gaping hole in between motors, with the max torque dominated by XL, M on the mediocre range, L being the island in between, and old-gen buggy ones ripping it on speed line. So maybe something faster than a m-motor but not losing too much on torque and (maybe) being a stud or two smaller. Imo the important thing is the compatability with PF as not only connectors, but receivers as well, as those have issues with overpowered stuff. best of luck on this quest

Making converter Cables
syclone replied to That_LEGO_Guy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
these should help: from http://www.josepino.com/robots/hacking_lego_nxt 9V to PF is straight-forward just connect C2&9V to one wire and C1&0V to the other (using such a setup in a PP3 [standard 9V block] adapter myself) -
Cutting panels (heresy)
syclone replied to Ctan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If you can't make your own recolors/parts, why TLG can? Imo the DBG looks great, reminds me of Extreme Offroader, too bad there ain't cool sets like that anymore -
Have been using them aswell, although from a different brand. Great stuff, too bad the IR receivers have terrible current cut-out protection, which often causes them to burn (ended up with two that hadn't any control over red port). Lesson learnt, don't use buggy motors on those . My NXT wouldn't boot with those, doubt EV3 would either. After measuring each of them, the average voltage was between 1'7 and 1'8V. Don't have any way to measure the capacity, but they really last a long time. All in all, had Ansmann NiMh before, good quality albeit running stuff on 1'2V was underwhelming, so those NiZns really are a game changer

Good Day. 8281 is a $10 set released in 2006 which had a simple harvester(?) attachment that could be lifted up using a lever to disconnect it from the driveshaft. Even being so simple it's a neat set nonetheless and it was my first ever Lego set (was 5 y/o). This would be an homage to my grandmother as well, who gifted me this set, making a perfect introduction for me to Technic. The goals of this build are: PF remote control Green color + yellow wheels rear PTO Some sort of harvester attachment, red-colored Front pendular suspension Cabin with shock absorbers Rear axle with locking differential 13x24 front wheels (rear ones on 8281) 62.4x20S rear wheels Progress so far: This is the approximate wheelbase I planeed initially, however, as I won't be using a buwizz, it can be shortened by1-2 studs. The front axle is pretty much solved, it has even got ackermann geometry (not accurate one though). The pivot point is the steering shaft, and the axle will be held onto the chassi using the 90° connectors on front&rear. Rear axle hasn't had the same luck. The current encarnation has a locking diff and is powered by a XL motor. However, the 16z between the 24z crown and diff slips even under the speeded-up motor. Also, the motor is positioned way too high, so most of this will have to be rebuilt. EDIT: will use a worm gear As the motor will be moved to the front, a 9v battery will be used to allow space for PTO, suspension & proper cabin. Hopefully this won't be another failure as it is pretty much out of my comfort zone

Instructions (photo sequence, challenging to follow along and completely forgot about part list, dummy me). Download here (302.9MB) Thanks, I was more worried about the front tbh Unfortunately the underside is part of the chassis, couldn't get around it Thanks, my apologies regarding the motors, should've specified more. (bizarre buggy motors of course )- 6 replies
