That is very nice LXF, is nice to see some of your works here. -
42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator
Imanol BB replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Do you all imagine if Lego release a 5K pieces Technic set the next year?, of course it is almost impossible, but it would be the perfect dream if it would be also some kind of machinery like the BWE. -
Here i have some mods for the B model: First, i have changed the separator grille angle, it is now more horizontal, but also, i have duplicated the number of the 5L liftarms, which i don´t know the specific name in real life (maybe pallets?), so this makes the grille shake twice the speed it had, and so the separation function might work better: Second, i have changed the speed of the upper conveyor belt, because it is a bit slow, and with the previous changes, a difference of about 50% more speed shouldn't affect too much the separation function, but it would make the process pretty much faster, here is the very simple modification, i changed the 12T gears with a 20T and a 12T gear to increase the speed: The future mods should be decrease the track speed and extend and lift the rear conveyor belt for big bricks.

The V1 IR Receivers have less efficiency for RC models, they tend to fail when the distance is increased between them and the control and the connection range isn´t enough, they also have less power than than V2 ones, so it is better to get The V2 ones for better "performance", for example, more speed, more power, more torque, more control and more range of connection.

42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator
Imanol BB replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That is a very nice review, talking about the model , i think it would need some modifications in the separator grille, i would put it more horizontal and also make a new shaking system, which would have less displacement but a faster shaking movement, just like the real machines, and other mods would be reduce the tracks speed (because they seem too fast to me), and extend and lift the rear conveyor belt for the big bricks, so it would be able to load the truck (which is not a really necessary option), however the whole B model seems good to me, big and robust like the A model, with some interesting functions that are similar to real machines and very nice details, i think that TLG made a very good work with both A and B model. -
I am not sure, but if it cant feed the B model, i think it would need the A model to be placed a little bit higher than the B model, but the only problem is not the height, it is also the width of the B moddel that would cause it to stay too far of the A, that is why i extended the lower conveyor belt to avoid this problem.

If you are interested, i have finished the B model: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=138069&st=25#entry2629336 -
B model is finished, and while building it, i found pretty interesting systems, the way it separates the bricks, and the whole conveyor belt system looks good too: LDD file: http://bricksafe.com/files/imanol/bwe/b-model/42055%20B.lxf Have a happy moding.

That thing looks very nice Gabi, those tracks would look very amazing on something like this: http://static.keptelenseg.hu/p/691e6176d0040bc919100f0804dca826.jpg

There is crazy people in the world... and then there is the people who tries to sell things many many times more expensive, if i would need to sell the box, i would sell it for a maximum of $30. -
Yes, here is the file: http://bricksafe.com/files/imanol/bwe/mods/42055%20mod%2008-05-16.lxf I will post updated files every time i make an important modification and if there is people interested on them.

42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator
Imanol BB replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Has anyone started to make the B-model in LDD?, because if not, i will start to make it. -
Here is another attempt for the bucket wheel, now the supposed speed of it is between 3,5 and 4,5 RPM, so it is more closer to original speed which is between 2,8 and 4 RPM:

Thanks carver, today, after some tests, i found the problem of the collision between the rear part of the rotation system with the IR receiver, but now i have moved the receiver one stud further from the rotation system, and i have fixed it: And about the L-Motor in the bucket, i am completely agree with you, i will see if i can make some more reduction there, and to be sure, i will calculate the possible rotation speed. I am glad that you liked the motorized LA´s mod. Also, Gabi, that thing looks amazing, and basing on the size of the tracks you made, it is going to be really huge.

Well, here are my last mods so far, i was working on the improvement of the lower conveyor belt rotation system, and when i was finishing it, i had another idea for the lower conveyor belt, and i have added 2 small LA´s for its lifting and lowering, here it is: Now, for the rotation system i made (maybe) the ugliest and most rudimentary solution, but i think it might work, it consist on a beam with 2 12T double bevel gears that can be pushed or pulled to connect and disconnect the system: Neutral position: Engaged position: And i also made an (still ugly and rudimentary) locking system which should be enough strong to hold the conveyor belt in place, but slip if it is locked for mistake and so, let the conveyor belt turn when it reaches the maximum rotation and the whole excavator is still rotating without jamming the whole excavator movement; and if you pull the 20T bevel gear (like in the unlocked position) it unlocks and you can use that same gear for manual rotation: Locked: Unlocked: These systems are very basic, but they should work fine, and if you have any suggestion it is well received.

Here are some "small" mods i have made so far: First, i have made the chassis RC, it is something similar to what carver did, but it is driven by 2 L-Motors, and both them are placed one stud higher, so they don´t affect chassis clearance: Second, i have lowered the lower conveyor belt and extended it by 13 studs: And third, i have made some of the superstructure functions completely RC: These 3 L-Motors control: - Superstructure rotation - Conveyor belts moving - LA´s movement (still WIP, it is finished) LA´s movement: Bucket wheel with L-Motor and separated from the conveyor belts system (i am not sure about the speed of the bucket wheel, it might need some more reduction of the gears): Now the remaining mods i would like to finish are: - Finish LA´s RC movement (using the same transmission of the chassis driving system) (Finished) - Put an L-Motor on the bucket wheel (Finished) - Separate bucket wheel rotation from conveyor belts system (Finished) - Improve the lower belt automatic rotation system (reduce the backlash (Finished)
