  1. True, but that set isn't exactly 'current' ;-)
  2. At times it's indeed quite difficult to discern what parts go where, use your common sense as well :) Let me know when you get stuck, I might be able to help you out.
  3. Yep, though if you have the regular 8043 already built you can 'salvage' some parts, such as the lower boom and the carriage base.
  4. Now this is advanced MOC'ing! Very impressive!
  5. I might tackle this bad boy when my Technic stash has increased, for now I'm simply lacking too many parts :-) I hardly have any System bricks.
  6. I know the XL motor is slower, but I will gear it up a bit :) That should leave me with approx. the same torque as the L motor, but with more speed (assuming the XL motor is a lot more powerful than the L motor). Then the crawler can still handle obstacles, while driving faster.
  7. Just assembled this set, and I'm a bit irked by the low speed. Gonna replace the L motors by XL motors, which results in increased unsprung weight, but whatever. This also requires an additional IR receiver, which leaves me with an unused IR output. So, I will also add a winch.
  8. The standard battery pack will not fit I'm afraid! You need a lot of extra room for the additional IR receiver and XL + M motors.
  9. I'd guess either the 12 and 20 teeth bevel gears (for 1:1.66 reduction) or 8 and 24 teeth regular gears (for 1:3 reduction). Might be that the 8 teeth regular gear is too fragile though.
  10. Impressive looks and functionality, well done!
  11. Why a differential of the new type? I think it's much easier to achieve with a differential of the older type.
  12. I agree that the crane will be the flagship for 2013. I hope there will be plenty of space for motorization :)
  13. Yep, those are the new actuators. I believe the first batch of the revised actuators were marked 36x0 (for week 36, 2010). Yours are week 9 2012 and week 10 2012, respectively.
  14. Small distance between the front wheels looks better imo :) Take a look at Sariel's tumbler if you need some inspiration.
  15. This review and Sariel's convinced me to buy this set :-) Will post my impressions after I've built it.
  16. Gonna be a bit disappointed in the Technic jury if the Dunechaser & Musclecar don't make it to the short list ;-) MarkusOSX' offroaders are also nice. The Land Rover also looks excellent, but I think that will run into licensing issues.
  17. Ah, I see. I really like the look of this suspension, I think I'm gonna tear down my 9398 and 8110 in a week or so, and then build it :) Maybe I'll find a way to fit in the LAs somehow. Otherwise, I'll hook up the servo motor from the 9398.
  18. You pay for shopping by bank transfer or paypal, whichever you prefer. After you place your order, you will receive an invoice which specifies exactly how much you have to pay and using what means. I have never been swindled, but I always make sure to order from shops with good reputations. Not sure if this is the right subforum for this question...
  19. C'mon, take that stuff to PM. Very offtopic. And it's 'written that well', wijsneus ;-)
  20. Not sure, but I think some 6L and 8L axles, and also a bunch of perpendicular (2L and 3L) axle and pin connectors. Oh, and 16 tooth gears. You only have the 8043 set?
  21. Click on the 'By Shop' tab to see which shops offer items that are on your wanted list. Note that the parts list for the 8043 modification isn't complete, I recall having to add some extra parts. Also, routing the electrical connectors in the back is a pain in the a** :D Furthermore, the dipper can actually move a bit too far towards the machine, which can put too much strain on the universal joint that routes the drive for the bucket. You may want to add some extra reinforcement to prevent this. Other than that, good modification!
  22. For god's sake people, not again this LA vs. pneumatic discussion! Both have their pros and cons, and both have their fair share of loyal supporters. Let's leave it at that. Wouldn't mind some moderation in this thread... Anyway, back on topic! Looking forward to the new crane, with 5 axles it's got to be huge. I never got the chance to pick up 8421, and 8053 was disappointing imho.
