  1. Thanks for the comments everyone! Yeah, in retrospect I agree, I think it would look ok in a clump of trees which are different sizes, but on it's own it just looks too thin. thanks Capt Wolf, the original plan was to have more layers, but I'm short on dark tan due to another project. I also wanted some dark orange layers for variation, but don't have enough plates in that very expensive colour!
  2. One of Major Dirk Allcocks first priorities for the new settlement of Mooreton Bay was raw material with which to build. To impress the natives Dirk believed it was important to build in stone and brick, so different from the native's own flimsy wooden structures. Fortunately there was an abundance of good quality sandstone in the area and a site for a quarry was quickly located. Labour however was a problem. Free settlers were still scare and would probably not undertake the back breaking work of cutting and dressing the raw stone. Dirk's labour problems were solved quite unexpectedly when news arrived from Captain Matthew Sawkins of the Lady Jacqueline. Captain Sawkins had the good fortune to capture two dastardly Pirate vessels during the April trade run. While these vessels were safely dry-docked, the crews were another matter. Captain Sawkins didn't feel as a civilian it was his role to execute the pirate crews. Corrington law called for pirates to be hanged by the neck until dead, although usually this followed a trial of sorts. Instead he shipped the two pirate crews in chains to Dirk for him to deal with. Dirk, horrified at the thought of executing so many able bodied men when labour was in such a short supply, has in his authority as temporary military governor of Alicentia, stayed the execution. Now he was put the convicts to work on various projects around the new settlement. Here a small detachment of soldiers and a freeman overseer supervise the work of cutting and dressing sandstone blocks at a quarry. Each block is shaped by hand into a workable brick size for transport to the near by settlement. Licensed as a medium factory in Mooreton Bay, Alicentia
  3. A lovely, bright and clean build! The use of the sack piece as pork is particularly inventive. Great job!
  4. The Settlement of Mooreton Bay has been established on Alicentia. Hopefully I'll have some licensed builds coming in the next few weeks!

Name: Mooreton Bay Ownership: The Crown of Corrington Location: Alicentia Mayor: James Hume Trade Value: see account spreedsheet here Town bank: see account spreedsheet here Who can own property in Mooreton Bay: Anyone. Who can freebuild in Mooreton Bay: Anyone. Maps: Description: Corrington's first settlement on Alicentia, Mooreton Bay, is located inbetween two large freshwater lakes and a large natural bay. As with other Corrish settlements in the new world, Mooreton Bay is founded near a native settlement, and co-exists in close cooperation with the natives in accordance with a formal treaty between the two peoples. Founded by famed Corrish explorer Sir Dirk Allcock in February 616, it was one of the first Corlander settlements in the Terra Nova. The settlement is named after the famous Corlander General Sir Charles Moore. Moore was a hero of the Juniper War who was killed leading a valiant rearguard action that allowed the main Corlander Army to escape an overwhelming Oleon invasion force. Together with the free settlers, a small contingent of convicts were present at the establishment of the settlement; mostly minfigs convicted of piracy in the Sea of Thieves. These convicts are awarded plots of land in return for a set amount of labour determined by the severity of their crimes. The abundent local sandstone makes for a convenient building material for most of the settlements buildings, which have taken a very Mardierian style after the foundation of nearby New Haven and the influx of Mardierian refugees fleeing the Isle de Medio after the Eslandolan invasion. Tropical fruits grow well in the fertile soils of Alicentia and plantations taking advantage of this recieve bonus income. The settlement successfully repelled a raid by notorious Eslandolan pirate Captain Nordau in late 622, although not without serious damage to Fort Denison. 10. Much has occurred since we last saw Captain Dirk Allcock in King's Harbour setting up a Cocoa Plantation. He had meet with Sir James Chase and Don Isaac Montoya and together they had launched the Royal Society of Natural Philosophy. After this, Dirk had stayed on in King's Harbour, giving his men a well earned rest and himself a chance to leisurely explore the immediate area. However all good things must come to an end, and thus it was so when a letter arrived for Dirk from Belson. To the most honourable Major Dirk Allcock, Sir, the Ministry has received your report and recommendation of settlement of the island you landed on in the month of February. After much consideration, it has been decided to proceed with claiming this Island for the Crown. Enclosed are orders from the Army board instructing you to proceed with haste to the island which shall henceforth be known as 'Alicentia' in honour of her majesty the Queen Mother. Included in the Army dispatch is a promotion to the brevet rank of Major. You will also find enclosed is a declaration of colonisation and settlement from this office together with your commission. You are to proceed to Alicentia and find a suitable place for our first settlement on the island. You are formally charged with the authority to make a treaty with the natives you previously established good relations with. When a suitable location is found, you are to report to this office and await the dispatch of the first batch of colonists for the settlement. Whilst waiting you are charged with preparing the site and establishing the initial settlement. You are empowered to enlist any potential colonists for this endeavour at any existing colony of the Crown. Yours sincerely, Reginald Fortesque, Secretary, Ministry of the Colonies And so Major Dirk Allcock did indeed proceed to Alicentia with haste. He collected a considerable amount of supplies together with a small group of colonists looking for adventure. The he proceed to Alicentia and made contact once again with Xochitl and her tribe. A treaty was quickly agreed upon and signed at a ceremony near where Dirk had initially landed all those months ago. Now his first priority was to find a suitable place for a settlement, several suitable natural harbours had already been flagged as potential sites. ______________________________________________________________________ A quick freebuild to advance Dirk's storyline and to formally establish our claim on the Island formally known as 'Island 9'. Settlement to be announced soon!
  11. I admit, like Fuzzy I too was sceptical when I heard the MCTC were planning a Royal Factory. Well certainly no longer. The sheer scale is impressive in itself, but the amount of details is what really makes this build! Everywhere you look (and there is a lot to look at!) is packed with details. A truly ROYAL effort - well done - one of the best builds in BoBS IMHO!
  12. To the most honourable Señor da Pontelli, It was my great pleasure to meet you recently. I am writing to formally confirm you as a full member and fellow of the Royal Society of Natural Philosophy. My congratulations Sir, your contributions to our understanding of lighter-than-air gasses are most remarkable. I wish you the best of luck in your continued studies. Do ensure you keep the society informed of your progress. Yours sincerely, Dirk Allcock Secretary and Founding Member Royal Society of Natural Philosophy
  13. A very beautiful build - the use of classic yellow looks fantastic and I like clean feel of the building - clean yet it still looks realistic! The overhead shot really highlights the overall scene. Great job!
  14. Pretty much most of the above comments sum up my awe at this creation - it is indeed a masterpiece and definitely speaks of the grandeur of Olean cities! I especially love the staircase leading down into the park itself.
  15. I'd never seen a vineyard like this before - great work and I really like how you faithfully researched and reproduced the details.
  16. Another truly impressive build KB! The main stand out feature for me is the cross shaped base - I've never seen one like that before and it looks great!
  17. Sorry guys, I got distracted by other Lego "responsibilities" and never followed through with this. It seems Alicentia is our selected name for Island 9. Barring any violent objections I suggest we lock it in. I'm hoping to start MOC'ing a settlement on 9 this month. Island 4 is less unanimous - is anyone thinking of settling on 4? If so perhaps your suggestion would carry more weight?
  18. A very nice build Bregir, the colourful coral reef scene is very well done and as usual the story is superb. I'm quite jealous of the CMF diver, I don't have one (yet!). Dirk may have to make enquires about purchasing a suit for himself as coral reefs fascinate him!
  19. Wow Fuzzy, this is great! I mean really, really great! I love everything about the scene, you've really captured the grand feeling of a palace here I think. I also really like how you made your story and I love the fact you used the actual words of Charles II in the third paragraph. Thanks for letting us know that - I love a good historical Easter egg! I'm most definitely looking forward to more of these architectural builds from you!
  20. Dearest Don Isaac Montoya, I am writing to inform you that the executive committee of the Royal Society of Natural Philosophy has reviewed the extraordinary work of Señor da Pontelli that you have brought to our attention. I am very pleased to inform you that it has been decided an invitation of membership should be extended to Señor da Pontelli forthwith and that he should present his findings to a panel of his peers at the first available opportunity. Furthermore the committee has authorised the use of the title "Fellow, Royal Society of Natural Philosophy" for Señor da Pontelli once all membership requirements have been met. I hope this correspondence finds you in good health. I have enclosed some sketches of a most interesting specimen of starfish I have discovered in the hope you may find them interesting. Yours sincerely, Dirk Allcock Secretary and Founding Member Royal Society of Natural Philosophy (New World Branch)
  21. Wow that is a really nice looking blacksmith and the idea of a presentation sword as a gift is very clever. Well done, a great entry!
  22. Hilarious! And a great build as well! The way the building sits on the beach is really good, and of course the stone work is great! Another detail that really catches my eye is the brick built cannon. The way the evidence chamber is included under the prison section is also very clever. Lastly I'd like to comment on the Mardierian guards. I guess one of the advantages of fleshies is you can effectively use yellow as a clothing colour, and in this case it looks really great. All over a great build that I shall be carefully studying for ideas for some time to come!
  23. Great build! The facade looks quite grand, I love the dark red and white. What are the statues (great use of the chef hat btw!) holding? Not sure about the giant pineapple on top, but it sure is a fine looking pineapple! Not sure if it is unique to my line of work and corner of the earth, but we have an expression regarding pineapples. To be given a pineapple is to be given a really unappealing and possibly quite painful task. Like a special kind of f-you from management - so maybe it's quite appropriate on top of a court house! Oh and that is a wicked looking mallet!
  24. Indeed a great scene! The buildings, especially the mix of colours, are very good looking. The parade is also really nice - I particularly like the drum! Great job!
