  1. Greetings all, After getting some really good feedback here on Eurobricks for my Brethren of the Brick Seas builds over in the pirates forum, I thought I'd post some of my recent builds for Lands of Roawia here as well. I have recently been experimenting with Middle East style desert scenes. It's not a genre I ever even really thought about before joining the online community, although after seeing works by Gideon and Blufiji (the tower in the last build is Blufiji's technique) amongst others, it's one I really wanted to try. Anyway without further ado here they are, any suggestions or feedback is very welcome. Thank you!
  2. Hmmm... good point about the background.... I've edited the image again, now I'm much happier it matches the forum skin!
  3. The spectators look great! You can see you put alot of effort into the minifigs for this one - great job all round!
  4. Beautiful Tavern and great addition to Port Raleigh! Although for a room of drinking marines it looks very... quiet? tame? orderly?..... Must just be our famous Corrlander discipline at work! - that and their officer is also present!!!
  5. Thanks everyone for the detailed feedback - it is very much appreciated and as you can see I have resubmitted the image with some of your suggestions. This is exactly why I love this community so much - great feedback that I can improve with! Anyway hope you like the modified image, Cheers! Thanks for fixing the title! I agree in principle about the focus, it was how I originally indented the shot to go, but then, like Bregir says, I decided that the naval action was the real focus and wanted it in focus. In the new image I used a blue background, which made erasing it so much easier - thanks for that tip!! although in the final cut I ended up cropping the figure out of the shot anyway... Thanks, the telescope idea intrigued me, so I've given it a go. It takes the ship and fig out of the fore ground, which I think makes a better, if somewhat more simple picture. I agree with you on the focus as explained above. Thanks, I've added the 1x1 rounds as suggested, you are right, it looks much better! I ended up trying the crop, I think it looks less distracting this way, but makes me wonder why I even bothered placing the boat in the picture!!!! I agree regarding the island. I tried some 'bamboo' pieces as trees although I ended up taking them off as the looked a bit out of scale.
  6. Um, oops My apologies to our Eslandolian comrades! That's my own poor spelling! My only excuse is that spelling was very erratic in the age of sail??? I'll edit everything to change it. Maybe a friendly mod could edit the title?
  7. Greetings all! My rather simple attempt at the Feb MRCA result. It's my first attempt at both mirco building and forced perspective. Not entirely sure if I like the result, it's very different to what I'm used to! The micro ships were inspired by Captain's Braunsfeld's mirco builds. Graham Taylor, Master of the Saucy Gibbon, had never been so happy to see a foreign naval vessel. As organised by their new partner, Captain Dirk Allcock, the Gibbon had joined a state sponsored trade convoy. This was a new experience for the three brothers on the Gibbon, they were much more used to small clandestine runs carrying illicit sugar between Arlinsport and LeBellan. The convey, spread out widely across the horizon had been skirting the Garvey coast when suddenly a pirate had emerged from a cove. Much to their terror, the pirate had made a direct line for the closest merchant vessel, the Saucy Gibbon. Despite her high speed and handling, the much larger pirate vessel had rapidly gained on the Gibbon. Graham was getting increasing fearful, when, seemly from nowhere, the Eslandian escort vessel Dark Lightning closed in on the pirate. Cannon fire echoed across the water as the two vessels exchanged broadsides. Out gunned, the pirate vessel quickly broke away and fled to the east. Graham muttered a blessing to the Dark Lightning, and the greenbacks who crewed her, for now, the Gibbon was safe to continue. *** EDIT: Resubmitted image incorporating some of your great suggestions below!!
  8. A very nice looking cutter, as others have commented, the sails look particularly good!
  9. Oh, I didn't get it until I translated 'Le Dindon'! Great story!
  10. Your effort with the rigging was definitely worth it – it looks stunning! A very nice, ‘clean’ vessel. Hopefully you’ll forgive me if I don’t wish her well this month!
  11. Another great ship Legostone – well done! (The Wringe/Wringe II is one of my favourates on BoBS!) I really like her shape, especially how she looks in the first picture with the widening hull and tumblehome – she really looks like a purpose built merchant vessel. The sails look really good as well! Best fortune for her maiden voyage!
  12. In that case, Lady Jacqueline requests to join Fire Trader. Thanks,
  13. Thank you all for the comments and discussion regarding Lady Jacqueline's class. With some help from a friend, she will be licensed as a 5F for participation in this month's MRCA! Thanks Vedauwoo, I was wondering if anyone would comment on the figure head!! Ideally I think this would be the best solution, but I don't want to add more work for the probably already swamped leaders! Thanks for the detailed argument Legostone, I have licensed her as a 5F. Thanks Bregir, I think (at a later stage - this is one ship I'll be keeping built!) I'll try and modify the mast arrangement. Like you suggest I'll move forward and rake the foremast as well as move forward the middle (main?) mast. I too am not happy with the twine I am using for rigging, but cotton thread is too thin and I am yet to find something 'just right'. I'll keep looking! Thanks BrickOn and thank you for the offer of finance! Another investor has however provided the necessary funds. I already have a small 1F using my free licence, the Saucy Gibbon.
  14. Thanks Capt Wolf and CB4, Capt Wolf, your class argument pretty much sums up my dilemma perfectly (and much better than I put it!) CB4 your calculations are pretty much exactly how I justified my original classification. Like I said, I’d be more comfortable with her as a Class 4, but I’m loath to give up the ‘F’ designator as Xebecs were known for their speed. I guess the argument for now is academic anyway, as I still need to earn another 50-150DBs depending on what I license her as!
  15. Thank you all very much for the comments, Wow! Such high praise Captain Braunsfeld! Thank you! As for size she definitely doesn’t look as big in the pictures as she does in real life. Not including the bowsprit, she is around 65 studs long and at her widest 18 studs wide. I agree! I actually did seriously consider this, to the point where I got all my 1x1 red plates out – to find that I didn’t even have enough to do even one side! Thanks Faladrin. I did consider a front sail, but wasn’t sure if Xebecs were ever rigged that way. A quick google search has informed me they were! As for the pointier hull, I’ll definitely keep that in mind. I think it would make the vessel look even sleeker!
  16. Hello All! The Lady Jacqueline started as my attempt at a free license ship for the MRCA. As you can see I got just a little carried away with the size thing. I have made two versions, below is my Corrington version, the other, slight more medieval version can be seen on flickr. Based on the CGH pre-fab hull method, and heavily influenced by Napoleon's French Xebec. I feel she'd be around a Class 5F, but happy to hear other opinions/suggestions (I'd have probably originally said 4F, but there is no such class! and I believe she definitely deserves the 'F' designation!). I will license her when I have the appropriate funds, which probably won't be for a couple of months. The below table is for indexing purposes. Type of Ship: Xebec Class: 5F Licensed: Not yet (I need slightly more funds!) Yes! Master: Matthew Sawkins Owner: Dirk Allcock The Lady Jacqueline is the vessel that Captain Dirk Allcock purchased for his expedition to the new world. A Xebec, she is manoeuvrable and very fast. She is Captained by Matthew Sawkins, an experienced former Naval Captain. Her armament consists of four cannons (2 are currently stored below) and together with small arms and a detachment of 3 Royal Marines led by an experienced Sergeant. The weapons stored at the entrance to the cabin may seem a bit medieval, but the Marine Sergeant assures all who query that they prove their worth in close combat boardings.
  17. A beautiful residence, well suited for one of Corrington's leading figures in science! At first I too questioned it being a 'small' residence. But CelesAurivern makes a good point, for a man of your substance this is probably more accurate as small!! The shape of the roof instantly reminded me of the Parisian Restaurant, which I have been eyeing off on my shelf for the last couple of weeks thinking "that would look great modified in Arlinsport"!!!! I too like the use of 'classic' yellow, not a colour I would have thought of trying but you make it work really well. Dirk Allcock would be honoured to participate in activities for the Society of Natural Philosophy. Although he missed your presentation on the Tiberian Sea Otter, he did obtain a copy of the paper which he read several times most enthusiastically!
  18. An extremely humorous concept and build! from Corrington
  19. Brilliant concept for an instrument, very well executed. It will look great in your flagship eventually, Great job!
  20. A very nice bakery. As others mentioned the SNOT fireplace floor is particularly noticeable and the oven itself is very nicely done as well. Keep up the good work! *groan! - lol*! terrible pun - love it!
  21. Thanks Bregir! Hussar = torso from CMF Revolutionary Solider. Bearskin Shako from CMF Royal Guard Light Dragoon = torso is the governors torso from the original redcoat pirate faction. Dark green epaulettes from the 2016 Ninjago line Heavy Dragoon = torso from CMF Royal Guard, plain shako from the orignal bluecoat/redcoat soldiers Foot Guard = torso is the pirate leader torso from 2009 Pirates Regiment of Foot = torsos are all from the original redcoat line. Shakos from the 2009/2015 line and bearskin shako from the CMF Royal Guard Rifle Regiment = torso is the original Pirate leader from the original pirate series Marine = 2009 Redcoat
  22. Thanks! The cavalry were fun, I'm half waiting for a lurking Olean spy to claim the Hussar because of the dark blue jacket! The light dragoon feels like he is from a slightly earlier time period. I considered each regiment having different facing colours like in the British practice, but without custom torsos I think it's too difficult to do in Lego. In my mind, the epaulette colour denotes the company, dark green for light, white for line and red for grenadiers. Therefore my examples are from the same company. Blue facing and epaulettes for marines (blue = water!) But anyway I don't mean them to be the definitive soldiers for Corrington, just my interpretation! I enjoy seeing what everyone else comes up with!
  23. I couldn't help myself! A small fig barf for Her Most Royal Majesties Armed Forces. Cavalry (L-R): 1. Regiment of Hussars, 2. Regiment of Light Dragoons 3. Regiment of Heavy Dragoons Infantry (L-R) 1. Queens Foot Guard 2. Regiment of Foot - Light Company 3. Regiment of Foot - Line Company 4. Regiment of Foot - Grenadier Company 5. Queens Rifle Regiment 6. Regiment of Marines Included are Ska's Foot Guards and Brickwolf's Queens Rifle Regiment!
  24. I particularly like the ship's cabin, as others have commented it's a great way of having a scene from a larger ship without having a larger ship. Good build and story - looking forward to the next instalment.
