The Empire of Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion
Ayrlego replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Hi Narbilu, For the Queen's Shade to participate in one of the Corrington convoys for the MRCA, you'd usually register her in the Corrington Trade Run private thread. (not sure if you have been given access yet?) As a Class 2T the convoy she'd join would be 'Quick Wing'. Let us know if you don't have access (not sure who has the magical power to add you - not me!) and someone can add you. After that you'll need to fill out this webform (more paperwork) and state that you are part of the 'Quick Wing' convoy. Then you sit back and wait... (the hardest part!)- 897 replies

Thank you everyone for the kind comments! If you are interested here are some amazing builds (far better than mine) that I took inspiration from. Linvale Falls by Aardwolf, Waterfall beside a little cave by Xymion What I was thinking was to make the trans clear columns SNOT using 1x2 clear plates (or 1x3/1x4 - not even sure if they come in that size??). Problem is I only have 13 of the 1x2s.... I think with plates vertical with the studs facing out, in different layers you could probably make a better looking effect than the stacks of round and square 1x1 trans clear plates. That, and like Kai suggested, incorporate some white plates in around the bottom to simulate foam (sort of like in this build by kabel). Anyway those are my thoughts, happy to see anyone attempt it!

Epic build Silentwolf, full of great details! I especially like Ensign David's bow and hat sweep. The elections are a fantastic idea (which reminds me I need to vote this weekend!) Good to see Elizabethville growing! Great job!

Great job, the cotton and building are nice, but I have to agree with Titus - the irrigation here is superb! Great job and I look forward to seeing the rest.

Just made the original deadline! My first attempt at a waterfall, not sure I'm totally happy with the result, I have some ideas for next time... Hopefully you'll enjoy a somewhat typical Corlander take on the Fountain of Youth myth! __________________________________________________ Establishing a crown settlement is not an easy task. Major Dirk Allcock had never thought it would be otherwise, even so the day to day struggle of supervising the fledgling settlement of Mooreton Bay was taking its toll upon him. Finally he had the opportunity to take a couple of days off. Leaving the colony under the care of Lieutenant Stewart of the Royal Marines, He has set off accompanied by his native friend and companion Xochitl. Talk has swept through the settlement recently of the craze to locate the mythical fountain of youth. Stories of the adventures of the Olean priest Father Tholeau have encouraged many to set off in search of what Dirk is convinced is a misguided waste of time. Fountain of youth indeed! Any good man of science should rightly be sceptical of such superstitious nonsense! And Dirk of course is a good and respectable man of Corrington, a nation known for its love of science and order! After seven good labourers deserted the settlement in search of this fountain, Dirk voiced his frustrations of Xochitl. The beautiful priestess had suggested she take him to see a waterfall some distance into the interior from where the settlement had been established. Dirk, badly in need of a break from the settlement and keen to make some scientific observations in the interior's vast jungle, had agreed and at the first opportunity a small expedition set off. On reaching the falls Dirk's breath was taken away by the beautiful serenity of the scene. As he and Xochitl relaxed lazily on the banks and watched the water cascade into the pool beside them, he felt at peace for the first time in months. Indeed this was just what he needed. No drunken brawls between soldiers, sailors and marines, no convicts to supervise, no free settlers complaining about provisions. Just natural beauty surrounding him. Already he had spotted some examples of an unfamiliar specie of epiphyte with brilliant pink flowers growing in a large tree. His friend Don Montoya would surely be interested in some sketches of these! Dirk felt younger than he had in years... ppfffftt a magical fountain of youth indeed! What poppycock! Surely here was the key to feeling healthier and younger, a peaceful and gorgeous location, good company and plenty of new flora and fauna to investigate - what more could a man of science and order ask for? Not without a sense of humour, when discovering the native people didn't have a name for the falls, Dirk decided henceforth they should be known as Tholeau Falls. Little did he know the name might be more fitting than he had ever imagined... and a picture without figs in case you're interested!

Thank you cablefoxley! Thanks Frumpy! The pike design is copied from this build Thanks Titus! I admit to spending a bit of time on some of the figs. There are a few members sigfigs from LoR hidden in the build along with the rest. Probably the most minifigures I ever used in one MOC!

Great rock work Titus, and excellently blended into the surrounding vegetation as well. Small, but lots of great techniques make an impressive looking build.

[COR - Jun FB1] The Corunna Tavern, Mooreton Bay
Ayrlego replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks everyone for the comments! Thanks Faladrin! The roof concept was originally stolen from Mike's Amelia%20Street%20by%20-Mike%20S-,%20on%20Flickr"]Amelia Street[/url] so I can't claim credit! I could take a photo of the interior if you wanted to see a particular technique as this build has so far survived my two day sorting purge. However unfortunately there are no details, it's mostly black bricks used as a filler so that the light doesn't show through the cracks in the walls - so if you were hoping for a full interior, sorry to disappoint! (I simply haven't had the time this month ) Thanks blackdeathgr! Yep, I had never seen them before but when I came across them they screamed to be used for BoBS!!- 7 replies

Wow! A stunningly beautiful build Kabel - that has to be one of the best waterfalls I've seen. The foliage is great as well!

Great concept, I've been toying with the idea of a brick yard myself and there are some really good ideas here! I especially like that you made the shape of the kiln round. The mercenaries look great as well - very smart in their black uniforms. What method did you use to make them? I really need to learn how to do this!! Great build all round, well done.

[COR - Jun FB2] Banana Plantation, Mooreton Bay
Ayrlego posted a topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
A banana plantation has been established just outside the new settlement of Mooreton Bay, Alicentia. Demand for this exotic fruit has risen steeply in recent times, with even Her Majesty herself rumoured to enjoy a good banana now and then! A fast trading vessel can transport the fruit back to the mainland before it spoils and will be almost guaranteed to make a tidy profit. ------------------- Another quick build and most probably my last for the month. Purists will not like the bunches of bananas as I've had to use the same trick as in my Cocoa plantation to make the trees look anything like authentic but I am reasonably certain that there is no way to make a bunch of bananas using just Lego! (more than happy to be proved wrong! ) Licensed as a small plantation in Mooreton Bay, Alicentia.- 7 replies

One of the first businesses to open in any new settlement will usually be a public house and Mooreton Bay is no different. The Corunna Tavern offers newly arrived settlers modest accommodation while at the same time serving refreshing drinks and humble food. In this scene you can see several citizens of Mooreton Bay enjoying refreshments. In the street two troopers of the newly arrived Queen's Own Hussar Regiment ride past and a soldier escorts some convicts to a work party. A detachment of troopers from the Queen's Own Hussar's has been dispatched to Mooreton Bay to provide extra security and mobility. The Hussars are indeed an impressive sight in a dashing black and red coat with a brilliant scarlet peliesse. ------------------------------------- Hi all! I had good intentions for expanding Mooreton Bay this month but it hasn't seemed to come together! I've cheated a bit here and used the upper level of a building from my recent Ainesford Market MOC build to produce a quick tavern for Mooreton Bay. While making a Bricklink order recently I came across the vampire torsos which I had not seen before. Thinking they'd make a perfect torso for Corrington soldiers I had to give it a go and these Hussars are the result. Hope you enjoy. As always C&C most welcome! Licensed as a medium artesian in Mooreton Bay, Alicentia.

Do I need to submit anything for the town bank of Mooreton Bay? The balance is still showing zero although 2 properties were licensed there last month. Thanks!

Thanks BrickCurve! The wall texturing is based on Aardwolf's build here. As for GoH, I probably have enough Lego 'commitments' as it is right now! Not sure I could fit in another although I have been tempted! On a completely unrelated note, I had the pleasure to see some of your stuff IRL at BrickExpo Canberra last year - fantastic!!! I don't know about that! Personally I feel it has some major flaws, but I ran out of time to do anything about them. It's for the guild creations entry and I think I may be the team's weakest link! Thanks Isundir! Any chance you'll return to LoR?? I've missed your outlaw stories! Thanks Captain Braunsfeld, I wanted to try and cram as much activity as possible in without it feeling like 100s of mini-figures slapped on a baseplate. Not sure if I've achieved the right balance - the whole thing feels a bit flat to me, so glad you liked it!

Hi all, As this is my biggest project yet, I thought I'd display it here in hope for some feedback! I have a new found respect now for those of you who build big - it wasn't as easy as it looked. I'm going to happly go back to smaller builds for a little while now! This is a build for a local challenge over on Lands of Roawia and will also be part of a group entry for the Summer Joust on flickr. A team of four builders from our faction will be presenting builds in the city of Ainesford for the Summer Joust. Our intent was to display typical scenes from the city whilst at the same time staying consistent to the style and stories presented by other builders who have depicted Ainesford in the past. In the descriptions I've linked in some of those previous builds. Additional photos and some WIP shots are available on flickr in this album. So anyway with further ado, may I present to you the 'Red Elm' Market place in Ainesford, Lenfald! Ainesford is a major Lenfel city situated on the fork of the Aines and Marnie rivers and the border with Loreos. A major trading hub, the main road south into Loreos passes through Ainesford and the city is also a major stop for riverine traffic passing between Durrough and the capital Stonewald. As such the city is famous for its economic prosperity and flourishing markets. In times of peace, goods constantly flow up and down the river and across the border. The city is also known for its multicultural make up which is reflected in both its people and architecture. Here is a section of the 'Red Elm' Markets, one of the major market places in Ainesford named for the old red elm tree growing nearby. To the left of the scene is a government building in typical Ainesford style where the Grand Duke of Ainesford, Lord Sorley Meyrick is emerging to meet with the Grand Duke of Durrough, Lord Cartney. To the right is a popular tavern famous for serving their own special brew of fine apple cider that Lenfald is famous for. Here a jester can be seen entertaining the crowds in the marketplace while shoppers inspect goods at a blacksmith stall, bakery stall and glassware stall in the background. In this scene some Ghajjar tribesmen from Loreos inspect the goods at a fishmongers stall. In times of peace many Loreesi cross the border to trade in Ainesford, including nomadic tribesmen such as the Ghajjar. Behind them two Lenfels rangers inspect the work of a master bower and fletcher at his stall in the marketplace. Archery is considered a national skill and people of all classes and both sexes commonly train with a bow from an early age. Some Pikemen of the Ainesford militia. After the crushing defeat of Lenfel forces at the Battle of Ainesford a few years ago during the War of Loreesi Aggression, the new Grand Duke has focused on training pikemen. Pikemen are ideal to counter the heavy Loreesi cavalry that dominated the field that day. These pikemen are led by a Lenfel Knight, a somewhat unusual sight as the majority of Lenfel cavalry are usually lighter armed and mounted and are primarily used for scouting and mounted infantry rather than as shock cavalry.
