  1. I plan on getting this with the PF's!!!
  2. I feel like lego NEEDS to make sets for this movie. Obviously Lego will be fine if they dont, but it's a new POTC film, not to mention the success of the last sets, plus Lego is historically known for there pirate based sets. It will just feel like a massive dropping of the ball without them. Not to mention the clearly good terms Lego is in with Disney at the moment, I just can't see any good reason to NOT make sets. I understand that themes like Ninjago and Nexo Knights might be pretty profitable for Lego because they are 100% in house themes. But having said that, with no LOTR, POTC, Pirates, and Castle themes going right now Lego just feels very thin imo. I understand they have Star Wars, but they have had Star Wars for forever and a day. They also have both Marvel and DC super hero's, which again are pretty big franchises. But still even with all of those, I still feel like Lego is lacking 1 more BIG theme. POTC should and WOULD be that theme, filling the gap that LOTR left imo. I get that times have changed, and Pirates and Castle would not be as popular today as they once were, but LOTR and POTC were pretty damn popular. I know folks on here like to talk about LOTR not selling as good as expected, but I know a lot of kids that lost interest in Lego once the LOTR theme ended. (I have an 11 year old daughter with quite a few friends). Which ALL of them pretty much dropped Lego once the LOTR and Hobbit sets stopped. As for POTC, all you have to do is go YouTube and see the amount of Lego POTC related videos are on there. That theme was FAR more popular than the 2015 Pirates, and far more popular than many of us older fans realize. IMO all 4 of these themes should be evergreen, but maybe rotate them every year to keep interest. 2017 should be POTC, maybe do a Castle theme in 2018, then a Pirates theme in 2019, then another LOTR run in 2020. Then rotate again. Keep these themes flowing, even if no new films are out, still plenty of sets that could be made. Rant over
  3. Unfortunately I'm starting to feel like the answer is indeed no. That's why I have decided to go a head and get the black pearl in the near future. I already have the qar, and most of the the POTC theme already. I have been waiting on the Pearl in hopes that it got a rerelease, but I'm not gonna hold off anymore. I want THE ship, and no new sets for the new film could actually drive prices up on it.
  4. I don't know about you guys, but the minifigures in this series seem "different". The body parts were all very loose, the yellow color seems slightly different. IDK? They just seem a little cheaper imo.
  5. So the PR is older than the DO? I was unsure about that. In my ideal world I would have all of them within the next year, but I don't know if my wife will go for that, lol. I already spent a fortune on pirate and castle sets. So much so, that I have run out of sets for those themes that give me the "I need that" feeling. So my focus is shifting to city and modulars, slowly but surely. But ya, buying them oldest to newest is probably the smart idea. I just want that corner set, lol.
  6. Question everyone What modular do you guys recommend I buy next? I already own pet shop and palace cinema, and I don't want to miss out on any more modulars going forward. I started with those two because I expected them to be the first to be retired, but the way the pet shop keeps chugging along, who knows right? I really kinda want to get the brick bank next because it's a corner set, so with the two I already have it makes for a more complete look, but the BB is the newest set, and again I don't want to miss out on any of them. If you were me, which one would you buy next?
  7. Who is Sir Von Lego? No new POTC sets would be a bummer and a huge over sight by Lego IMO. On a personal note, I'm so sick of these in house themes like Chima and Nexo Knights. I like in house themes like Castle and Pirates, but not these modern ones. Obviously I am not the target demographic, but I can still complain, lol. The only positive thing for me with no new POTC sets is that I can officially concentrate on my Lego city. It is hard collecting for multiple themes. So my pocketbook will be happy with no new POTC, but the Lego fan in me will be sad.
  8. I missed out on the original run for the POTC sets. But I have managed to pick up the queens Anne's revenge, London escape, and the mill on the after market. I love all of them tbh, and feel they are all very good sets. Better than the 2015 stuff for sure. I choose the QAR over the black pearl in hopes that the Black Pearl gets a rerelease, so hopefully my prediction comes true. I was very doubtful the QAR would get another release.
  9. I'm with you!!! I'm hoping and waiting to hear about these as well. Lets face it, the 2015 pirates theme was underwhelming at best. So some new POTC sets would make up for it. In hoping for a black pearl rerelease and a flying Dutchman.
  10. I think it's because it follows the same beats as the original. Also making the statue of liberty walking was a mistake.
  11. Not to sound argumenative, but you are being naive if you don't think this controversy is EXACTLY what the studio wanted. Perhaps not originally, but when they realized they were dealing hostile fans they DID indeed go into full "spin" mode and turn this film into some sort of political statement. Its so glaringly obvious, I'm not sure how you don't see that. As for the reviews, the majority of the reviews I've read have been along these lines "the movie is very average, but it is a good cause so I'm going to give it a better score." So a C level movie is getting bumped up to a B because it's a "good cause". Well ok, but that doesn't change the fact that it is in reality a very average film. Yes there a glowing positive reviews as well as negative ones, but the majority (and I read a lot) are along the lines of what I said earlier. So in reality, it's an average film. As for people driving down the audience score on rotten tomatoes, so what? If people feel that strongly about it, that's there prerogative. You might not like it or agree with it, but those things exist and people are using them to speak their minds. That's really the purpose of them isn't it? Sure I suppose you could argue that they are abusing the system, but such is life. Systems are always getting abused across the board. As for my thoughts on the film (yes I have seen it, but I watched a bootleg copy, I wouldn't pay money to support it). I agree with the vast majority, it's a very average or slightly below average film. It is by no means the "worst film ever made", but it's not NEARLY as good as it's defenders try and claim. To put it bluntly, it has a TON of flaws, they are literally everywhere. The story is down right generic, the writing is pedestrian, the characters are awful (except for some of the main 4 are decent), the villian is literally one of the worst villains to ever Grace a movie screen. He's really that bad and forgettable. The whole thing is really a train wreck imo. Most of the jokes are completely unfunny (some are ok, but not enough). Honestly I don't blame the actresses one bit for this film, I blame Feig. He did a terrible job on this movie, it's probably his worst film to date. He doesn't understand the Ghostbusters franchise enough to be given the keys to it, clearly. He just made mistake after mistake after mistake. Honestly I don't think he is capable of writing and directing these types of films, he should stick with his traditional stuff. I do think the 4 main actresses were the best part of the film, but as whole I can't say they were good let alone great. Wiig was fine, Jones was fine (even though her character was written horribly). The blonde girls character was a mixed bag for me, funny at times, but super annoying at others. McCartney's character was my least favorite. She just plain annoyed me throughout the whole film, I didn't laugh at her once. Beyond all that the final thing about this movie that bothers me is they keep attacking Ghostbusters 2 with it. "Well at least it's better than Ghostbusters 2". Really? How is this movie better than GB2. Now I admit GB2 is hardly an all time great film, but IMO it is VASTLY superior than GB2016. Reboot vs sequel aside, GB2 was funnier, more consistant, better more original plot (yes I know the film uses the same beats as the original, but the overall plot is original), and the villian is actually pretty good. No Vego isn't great, he's no Gozer, but he is 10X better than the villian in GB2016. GB1984- 10 GB2- 7.5 GB2016- 4.5
  12. @Blondie, I don't disagree with you about this movie having to deal with sexism. But my point is that's exactly what the studio wanted to happen. They encouraged this fight to try and make money. Was there an already existing level of misogyny? Yes absolutely, perhaps more than other films, I will give you that. But it's not NEARLY the level it's made out to be. Sony deliberately created, and encouraged this controversy just to sell movie tickets, which is down right dispicable. Which gets me to my overall point, Sony fanned the flames of this controversy in order to make money, and we all fell into the trap. That's why I am personally over these back and fourth discussions, because that is what THEY wanted. They knew the film was not very good, so bad press is better than no press, but creating an "everybody's sexists" press is even better.
  13. For the record the Nostolgia Critic review I mentioned was not a negative or positive review. It was a commentary about how ridiculous this debate has gotten. If you enjoyed the film, good for you. But when you make assertions like "misogynists killed the movie" than you are very much generalizing and I stand by everything I said in my previous post.
  14. @Blondie-wan, Seriously, that's the story you are going with? Mysogynists killed the movie huh? You seriously need to go and watch the Nostolgia Critics video on this film. Everybody that doesn't like this film is not a misogynist, and stereo typing them all as such is really short sighted. Is there a percentage that are perhaps indeed sexists? Yes I'm sure. But to claim they are the sole reason why the film failed is just plain not true. Could it be that the film itself is just not all that good?
  15. It hasn't made back it's budget though. The film cost 144 million to make, probably another 100 million or so in marketing. Also let's not forget that theaters take 30 to 40% or the cut. That is why reports have come out that it's a 70 million or so loss on it's budget, but again that's not even counting marketing. Whether people like it or not, the film has officially flopped.
  16. Well it's officially considered a box office flop. I am genuinely sad that this is HOW Ghostbusters will come to an end, I just don't see the potential in any more live action films.
  17. Wrong. Not as a film. If they did the current Ghostbusters as a comic book, nobody would care. Well there might be SOME backlash, like there was with female Thor, but nothing close to it would be if it were a film. Can we compare Apple's and Apple's here people? Movies and comic books are not even remotely on the same level. As soon as they release a feature length big budget non Bruce Wayne and Peter Parker Batman and Spiderman, then talk to me.
  18. I understand, and agree that the films you mentioned are very similiar to the originals. But where I and many others disagree with is that sequels CONTINUE the cannon, remakes erase them, or at least push them aside. If The Force Awakens decided to completely ignore Luke and Vader, pretend they never existed and replaced them with Rey and Kylo, people would be outraged. Well thats exactly what Ghostbusters did. As for the other films you mentiond, yes some of them have been rebooted to varied level of success. Batman always seems to do well, so I'll give you that one. Rebooting Spider-Man is half the reason why Sony is in so much trouble right now, because that reboot has NOT been successful. Star trek has done ok, but the current film is already showing signs of trouble at the box office. But all of that aside, what's the common denominator here, all of those franchises kept the characters in tact. If we had Joe Blow and Bobby noname instead of Bruce Wayne and Peter Parker people would be mad about it. That's what I don't understand about you people defending this movie, you call yourselves Ghostbusters fans, yet you are ok with a Ghostbusters world without Ray, Peter, Egon, and Winston. If you want to call yourself a fan of the new movie, good for you. But to me at least, you are not a Ghostbusters fan.
  19. Jurassic World WAS a sequel, not the same thing. Yes the word reboot gets attached to that one, but mainly because it is reinvigorating the series, same goes with The Force Awakens. Ghostbusters is a remake/reboot, completely different thing all together. If Jurassic World pretended that Jurassic Park never happened, it would not have been NEARLY as successful. But beyond all that, there are countless YouTube videos with MANY people expressing frustrations with the amount of remakes. This is not something I am just making up, a lot of people are just plain sick of remakes. I do think people are MUCH more open to sequels of older franchises than remakes. Remakes just make people mad.
  20. It's clearly not all that pooular, since remakes/reboots don't do all that well at the box office. They do ok, but not great. Ghostbusters didn't even win it's opening weekend. In all honesty it's doing average type numbers, so I don't really but the "it's what is popular now" type arguments.
  21. That's a cop out though. I understand WHY Hollywood is doing it, but that's no excuse. So you are ok with them milking things from yesterday as opposed to making NEW movies with new ideas. Films are literally the ONLY media that is allowed to get away with this practice, and I don't understand why? Sure musicians do cover versions of some songs, but they don't do a whole catalogue or a whole album. Its like an unwritten rule in music. But in Hollywood it's "let's just keep milking yesterday for all it's worth." just today I saw a tv spot for a new Ben Hur remake. Why? Seriously why? If you want to make a film similiar, that takes place in anchient Rome, then do it. Be original, don't remake a movie that people have already seen. Same goes for Ghostbusters. They could have easily made just about the same damn movie they just made, but called it Ghost hunters or whatever. Erase all ties to Ghostbusters, slimer, etc. But left the premise the same and nobody would have batted an eye. You can rip off Ghostbusters all you want, sure everybody would say that, but at least it would be it's own thing. Its like Mega bloks, sure as Lego fans might not like them much, but at least they are there own thing.
