  1. Hello everyone, it's been a couple of weeks since my last review, been battling some ailments that took a toll on my voice. Not to mention that I have really been taking some of the comments I've gotten around here to heart. I am proud to say that I think I have solved most of the problems that have hindered my previous reviews. This review has filmed and uploaded in full 1080 HD. I hope this is the first of many higher quality reviews. Here it is, The Imperial Trading Post
  2. I don't really understand why you would need more than one of those sets. Unless you were making a large firehouse moc, but other than that, the set is good enough for any lego city how it is.
  3. BTW, which set do you think it will replace TB or SOH? Honestly I'm ready for them both to go since I just got TB. They need to do another American landmark, perhaps Empire State Building. Even though these themes are not minifigure scale, most of them look fine in a Lego city IMO. Well not the Opera House. But TB is fine, Big Ben will be fine, Statue of Liberty would be fine (i don't own it though), and the Eiffel Tower would also be fine (don't own this either). I think mixed in with the modulars they can really add some pizzaz to your city. My Tower Bridge is a minifig walking bridge, but it's still awesome.
  4. I want a Gozer as well. We are so close from being to recreate those two films now, just need a Gozer, Vego, and Stay Puft.
  5. If your age you posted on this forum is true, then that might be why you don't get it. I'll try to make it an apples and apples comparison. Some of us (myself included) grew up with not just the movies, but the cartoon, toys, Ecto cooler, you name it. Ghostbusters was a BOYS toy, just like Barbies were for girls. Now sure, many of us boys (myself included) never had a problem with girls coming along and playing Ghostbusters as well, but that was there desicion. That is why, I don't have a problem with the idea of girl Ghostbusters, that isn't my personal issue. But I do have a little bit of an issue (reboot is the biggest issue) with them taking a property that historically belonged to boys and saying "now it's the girls turn." Which if they would have made it a mixed gender cast, so be it. But they didn't. They straight up said "boys had your turn, now the girls get it." Which if this had been done in reverse (a historically female property changes to a male one) the feminists would be out in full force. How is this any different? Being as your a 90s kid, not an 80s kid, I'm trying to think up a good comparison... Ninja turtles and power rangers. What if the 4 ninja turtles were rebooted and now they are going to be girls. Or what if Power Rangers came back, but instead of a mixed cast, they were all girls. You can't tell me that wouldn't bother you. Just from a factual perspective, sure girls played Ghostbusters, ninja turtles, and power rangers. But which sex REALLY kept those franchises alive? Males did. Just like how some boys play with barbies, but you know damn well it's girls that make that toy money. So ya, the big 180 switch does feel like a slap in the face. But again, I can get in board for the whole girl Ghostbusters concept, if it's a sequel. A reboot? Nope.
  6. I'm scared to talk about the films in this thread now, lol. But since YOU brought it up... I like GB2. I think it gets unfair criticism. Sure it's not as good as the first, but most sequels are not. Its has some good things in it, really good imo. Vego is a quality villian, slime blowers are cool, and the river of slime/ mood slime thing is cool. Making the statue of liberty walk, kinda lame. If the original is a 10/10 (which I believe it is) I give GB2 7.5/10. Still a solid sequel. Sorry back on topic.
  7. As I said in the Lego thread, if it ends up secretly being a sequel, my opinions on it will change. If it IS indeed a hard reboot, than I hope this film, cast, and director all burn in Hell. Cause it won't be a patch on the original, it will be LUCKY to be as good as GB2. I've just never felt SO disrespected by a franchise that I have loved and supported for so many years. As far as the whole female cast thing goes, I don't prefer it, but I'm not going to judge it based on that either. I would rather of had a mixed gender cast tbh. I'm also not big on the idea of Thor playing a receptionist. That just screams, be controversial for the sake of being controversial. If they would have hired some nerdy little Rock Moranis type guy to play the receptionist, then ok whatever. But honestly how many men that are built like Chris Helmsworth really have receptionist type jobs? It just doesn't seem realistic. Which beyond the reboot issue, is what bothers me. Make the film realistic. It is a fact that not a lot of women are becoming scientists these days, so the odds that 3 of them would be the top in their field in NY is not realistic, but for the sake of argument I can give them that. But then to say ok, now they are going to hire some muscle bound hunk to be the receptionsit, just seems rediculous to me. Besides when the original Ghostbusters hired Jeanine, she was hardly eye candy. Especially in the first film. That's basically the equivilant of the boys hiring a playboy bunny to be there Secretary. That would have been considered sexist, how is this any different. But again, I'll be the first to admit that I'll forgive all these things if it isn't a reboot. But if it is, these are things I'll always point to on why it sucks.
  8. For the price, it is hard to complain. I know many lego traditionalists HATE these ships, but I don't mind them. I would buy another enlighten BSB before I bought a Lego version. Why pay triple (or more) for basically the same thing?
  9. Hard to pin it down to just one, been so many great sets. But as far as ships go; BSB, SES, and 2010 IFS stand out As the 3 best (not counting POTC ships). As far as forts go; RIR, ITP, and EF are easily the best three there. Honestly you could own just the things I mentioned here, and your collection would be brilliant. Some of the smaller ships and forts are nice too, but these are the cream of the crop.
  10. I don't think it's fair linking investors with resellers. I am very interested in the potential value of sets. I just recently purchased TB and GB firehouse. I hope they both sky rocket in value, I really do. But having said that, I only bought 1 of each set, and already built the TB and will build the firehouse when it arrives. So I don't have any interest in reselling. But one day, my son will inherit my Lego collection, and I hope it's worth double or triple what I played for it, when that day comes. Its like getting a Michael Jordan rookie card, you will probably NEVER sell it, but it's nice to know it's worth a pretty penny. Also let me add, these two purchases were the first ones I have done through S@H, and I didn't have a single problem. The fact the OP bought so many of these types of sets at once, is probably why they got flagged.
  11. Why would it be locked? Its clearly coming at some point this year, it doesn't hurt to speculate.
  12. If this is true, then it is a complete 180 from how it started. It would also make me MUCH happier as a fan. I would even entertain the thought of buying the new car.
  13. I understand that logic, which is true. But here is the thing, cars made during the 50s and 60s are widely considered to be some of, if not THE best automobiles ever produced. Its really the golden age of the automobile. While cars made during the 80s, on the other hand, are widely considered some of the WORST ever produced. Especially the early 80s. I used to own a 1984 Ford Mustang, and that thing was piece a crap. Think about it, a MUSTANG was even crappy. It was a 4 cylinder, and had no power what so ever. It was just a really BAD era for cars. Did they know when making the 1984 Ghostbusters that they were getting a classic with the 59 caddy? Honestly id say yes and no. Even at that time, cars from the 50s and 60s were already considered classics. But to your point, they were buying a junker. But in the film, Ray saw the potential for the car, even bragging they only paid "4,800." which in 1984 money has to be around 8,000 today. Who in there right mind would pay 8,000 for A 30 year old car? Unless it has the potential to be A classic. A 1980 caddy on the other hand, may or may not be considered a junker today, but it will never be considered a classic. That's the difference. But having said all that, as I said before, I don't HATE the car really. I don't love it either. Id be fine with it, if it was called Ecto 2 or something along those lines. Because to me, there is only 1 Ecto 1. But beyond all that, I think I've made my opinions known on this topic. I don't want to beat a dead horse, so I'll leave it alone. Unless people quote or talk directly to me, then I will respond of course. I originally didn't want to get into the whole reboot thing, because I clearly have some strong opinions. I just want to talk about a 59 caddy vs an 80 caddy, because a couple of people in here said they liked the new one better. Which made me say "hold on". Lol. Like I said before, the NEW set might be better, which is to Legos credit. But an 80 caddy is NOT in any way shape or form superior to a 59 caddy. But again, to each there own. I just wanted to impart some automobile wisdom. If you are looking forward to this film, good for you. I hope you enjoy it.
  14. Any idea when it might come out?
  15. Nope, no training. Dan is going to be some random cab driver. Bill might be the mayor of NY, last I heard. The rest I don't know, but definitely NOT the same roles from the first 2 films.
  16. No that's not true. They were having trouble coming up with a story they felt could live up to the first two films (first one especially). But it had nothing to do with the fan base, it had to do with Sony execs. If they were really concerned about the existing fan base, than THIS IS NOT the film THEY would be making. They were far more interested in attracting NEW fans. Which perhaps they will do. But again, why couldn't they have these new characters exist in a world where Ray, Peter, Egon, Winston, and all the rest already exist? That's what I can't accepted. They could have done it, they chose not to. Therefore, I choose not to support it.
  17. @Legodalakbuster523, Where to begin, lol? Let me start by saying, it's all just a matter of opinion, and perhaps we just agree to disagree. As far as what you said about the Delorian from BTTF. I agree that Delorians over all are not amazing in any way, but the ones from that movie are as ICONIC as it gets. You can NEVER make a time machine out of a car, that will be better than THAT Delorian, you just can't. As for Ecto 1 being in the same level as the Delorian, I very much think that it is. When you talk about instantly recognizable cars from movies and tv, it's a pretty short list. Batmoblie, General Lee, Kit, Scooby Doo van, Delorian, and yes Ecto 1. If a vehicle is instantly recognizable, than it qualifys imo. When a random person sees the Ecto 1, they know what it's from. Thats ICONIC IMO. But beyond all this stuff, let's get to brass tax, I just plain have a problem with this film. Why? Because it is a hard reboot, they are ignoring EVERYTHING the REAL Ghostbusters did. Its like they never existed. As a fan, I just can't accept that. I feel really screwed over because of it. If they kept the same cast, directer, story, etc. But had this film as "passing the torch" type story, id be 100% behind it. But as it is, I border line despise it. I don't hate the car, as much as I hate the film itself. Id rather the car be called Ecto 2 or something else, because there is only 1 Ecto 1. But that's a different discussion. Before you say something like "most of the old cast is coming back" or "it's still Ghostbusters, better than nothing". I'll respond to those points now. For one, yes the most of the old cast is coming back, but they are doing cameos, and NOT playing the roles they played in the previous films. Basically they are showing up, just for a quick laugh, and to try to appease a fan base that is very divided. Honestly, I bet Bill Murray has a decent role, but all the rest will be very minor. Bill has always been reluctant to do another GB film, because he dislikes sequels, and him and Harold Ramis had a falling out during the making of Groundhog Day. That's the Real reason GB 3 never happened. Speaking of Harold, if he were alive, than THIS IS NOT the film we would be getting. Him, Ivan Reitman, and Dan Aykroyd are the main rights holders. Ivan has been VERY QUIET in reguards to this film, because he does not agree with the fact it's a reboot. If you read the Sony email hacks (i did) then you would know how he really feels. SONY basically lied to Ivan in order to make the film THEY wanted, not what he felt the fans wanted. Dan does support this film, but to be honest, it's because he has been trying for 25 years to get Ghostbusters going again. He will take whatever he can get, besides he stands to make the most money from ANYTHING Ghostbusters related. Out of the original cast, who IS NOT showing up? Harold because he is dead obviously, and Rick Moranis. They asked Rick, but he said NO. He said he was interested in doing a GB 3 proper sequel (in an interview a few years ago). But in a recent interview he admitted he declined this film because "I just don't see the purpose of it". So cheers to Mr. Moranis I say. Bottom line is, Sony is making a film that they want to make, not a film that old Ghostbuster fans (like myself) really want. It's going to be gimmicky, more style than substance. But thats par for the course with most Hollywood films these days. I could go into even more details reguarding this film, like I said, I did read the Sony Email hacks. I pretty much know the entire plot outline, some things I like, most I don't. But really it's the reboot thing I hate. I feel like it's making a new star wars film but saying "Luke Skywalker never existed." I know Ghostbusters isn't on the SW level, but to me, that's how it feels. Ray, Peter, Egon, and Winston are the Ghostbusters. A Ghostbusters movie that states those guys never existed, is not something I can support.
  18. Any news on this set? Cant wait to see it, then buy it.
  19. You should be ashamed of yourself!!! I kid of course, as far as being a set, the new car MIGHT be better. But as far as looks, beauty, iconic, etc goes. The REAL Ecto blows the new one out of the water. The new car is UGLY IMO. Doesn't deserve to be called Ecto 1. Its like remaking BTTF and having a Mustang or Camero be the new time machine instead of the Delorian. It just doesn't have that Timeless look to it. But I say all this as someone that despises this remake. Its original Ghostbusters or nothing for me. But I won't crap on your all fun, if you are looking forward to these sets. But I do hope, and half way expect this film to bomb at the box office. I just had to add my 2 cents reguarding the car. It might be a better designed set, I'll admit that. But that speaks to Lego, not the film itself. But as far as actual cars go, a 59 Cadillac is 10x better than a 1980 version.
  20. I just bought this set this morning, can't wait to get it through the mail. Until then I'll be working on the Tower Bridge that I just received yesterday. These giant sets are a lot of fun to build imo.
  21. I never realized how similiar to TBB that Blue coat ship really is. Can you access the captain's quarters? Or is it like TBP, not really useable?
  22. Yes. Here is the first random one I found of her, over 20 bucks. I saw another one for over 30. http://m.ebay.com/itm/LEGO-Minifigures-Angelica-w-Sword-Pirates-of-the-Caribbean-/281926305008?nav=SEARCH
  23. I agree. If Minifigs are part of your thought process, then Davy Jones is a MUST HAVE. He has to be considered one of the rarer and most sought after Minifigs in all of Lego (I'd guess top 10). Having said that, both Anjelica and Blackbeard are not minifigs to sneeze at either though, but still not as coveted as DJ.
  24. I was hoping there was a trick to this. I don't have a wall to lean them up against, so those type of options won't work for me. I've just always prefered the look of baseplates in the background, as opposed to other non Lego options.
