I used to really like them a lot. I can't say I dislike them now, but the show has lost a little something. Part of my "lost" interest is that Lego isn't producing new sets I really care to watch reviews on, so that's hardly their fault. IMO things change when youtubers get to big for their britches. It seems like the focus changes from Lego sets to other factors. My favorite Lego reviewers have never shifted away from Lego being the star of the show. That's why, for my reviews, I never appear on screen. I still like Brickshow, but id be lying if I didn't say I think it's changed. But having said that. I'd take them in a heartbeat over Brickqueen.

I hear ya. That's why I feel the whole quote option is a waste of time on there. Bottom line, you don't really have any idea how much something is going to cost until you buy it. -
LEPIN brings out Monster Fighters HAUNTED HOUSE (16007)
Captain Pirate Man replied to ericb's topic in Community
Now Lepin is doing Tower Orthanc. I have the real one, so it's not of interest to me, but I thought someone else was interested. It really looks like they are going back and doing all of Legos big sets. I wonder how far back they are planning on going? Like I wonder if some of the castles and other sets from the 80s will get a Lepin redo? -

You have no way to predict knockoffs will indeed make Lego depreciate. You are just assuming that. For one, in most scenarios knockoff or fake products have little to no effect on the value of the real deal. Take Rolex watches for example, fake verions of those have existed for years, and the genuine article has not been effected what so ever by them. I can think of countless examples of this being true. For two, the market would have to be FLOODED with these knockoffs to make any real threat. Which is nowhere NEAR the case. When the day comes where you can go into store and buy Lepin or Enlighten bricks around the world, then maybe start worrying. But as it stands now, you can only buy these online, so the public awarness is very minimal. 98% of the entire WORLD knows what Lego is, while probably 1 or 2% actually know what Lepin is, that's a major difference. That's like an elephant being worried about a single fly. Its hardly something to get all worked up about. -

I agree, it sounds kinda extreme. I just don't understand how knockoff bricks effect anyone here personally. Well except for monetary value, yes knockoffs "could" have a negative effect on that. But even that is to hard to predict, they could actually have a positive effect on them for all we know. If the market is flooded with fake Monster Houses, then the real ones could actually increase in value. But beyond that, it doesn't really effect you in any way shape or form. If you hate them, fine ignore them. If you like them, great. -

I agree. If Lego would just make all the pieces (they don't have to make the sets), then price gouging on certain parts wouldn't happen anymore. If you could Bricklink ANY set for reasonable prices, that would be the best compromise. As well as the best way to fight knockoffs. But until that happens... -
I have a few different enlighten pirate reviews on my YouTube channel. I linked this one here, but like I said I have more, some of which are quite in depth.

@Florian_Wayne, Where are from, if you don't mind me asking. I'm just curious what if any success or problems US buyers have had with Aliexpress. -

Is it wrong of me to say, I hope they make The Imperial Flagship soon? -
It is an interesting article in certain aspects. The part about "boys play in third person, while girls play in first person and inject themselves into toys" may very well be true. As a father with a 10 year old daughter (as well as 1 year old son) I do believe this fact to be quite true. Where I disagree with the article and the supposed "research" that people like to point to (if this is the article that people are basing these opinions on), is it still doesn't definitively say that minidolls will be more popular amount girls. If anything, Its based on assumptions. Girls can do EVERYTHING with minifigs that they do with minidolls, and even some things minidolls cant (like change hands, arms, legs individually, etc). If anything, this article just proved my point even more. There are no reasons why girls can't "inject themselves" into minifigs just as much as they do with minidolls. Same goes for ANY toy, a girl can play with a box of rocks and still pretend it's her just as much as boy can play in third person with it. Bottom line, it's a marketing strategy. Has it been successful? Yes. Could those products of been just as successful or even more so with that minifigs? IMO yes. But we will never know that for sure. I'm not really sure why this topic has turned into a minidoll debate, we have plenty of those elsewhere.

Bricklinking 10210 The Imperial Flagship?
Captain Pirate Man replied to Colossus's topic in LEGO Pirates
Ya I realize it won't be the "official" set. But it's such a beautiful ship that owning a budget version is better than nothing. -
I forgot about Black Sails. To be honest with you, I did watch a couple of episodes, and I did enjoy it for The most part. But I have the same problem with it, that I do with Game of Thrones, the nudity. Some of the scenes in those shows are almost soft core cable porn. I'm married with kids, and I don't really approve of those sort of things anymore. I don't really feel it adds anything to the story, in fact I feel it takes away from it. I don't mean to be prudish, but that's how I feel about those shows.

If you like Pirate releated things (films, Lego, ships, etc) then the POTC films are really the ONLY show in town. I wish it weren't that way, but it is what it is. Same goes for LOTR. I wish other fantasy genere films would succeed, but they don't. So as long as they are the ONLY films in town, I will support them. Sure the POTC films, and The Hobbit films have flaws. But I enjoy them, and will continue to support them (no matter what changes Peter Jackson makes to the source material), for all the reasons I stated earlier.

Honestly the ONLY reason I don't have Barbosa is because I didn't have a ship for him to command in my MOC. I'm VERY particular in every Captain having his own ship and crew. Same goes for Davey Jones, I obviously don't own a Flying Dutchman, so that fig hasn't had the appeal for me. Even though I don't technically own the Black Pearl either, I did give Jack Sparrow a smaller ship to command, along with Gibbs. But now with the POTC news, im hoping he will finally have HIS Black Pearl in my fleet. As for Blackbeard, I bought the QAR for like $200 without any Figs like 6 months ago. I then bought Blackbeard for like $12 solo. I wasn't so worried about Anjelica, I actually used the Pirate wench from the 2015 line as my substitute Anjelica. But since then, my wife actually has started making display boards for all of our "collectable" figs. LOTR has 2 complete boards, with tree beard, Eagles, Goblin King, Trolls, etc. Its such a big collection, that theme required 2. We also have 2 or 3 (I can't remember off the top of my head) for our CMFs. Then we also have 1 made up of our "randoms". It has POTC figs, Harry Potter, Super Heroes, 80s and 90s classic figs, etc. So when and if I do get Barbosa, that's where he will go. Because again, without a ship for him to command, he doesn't really serve a purpose for me. But you all made a great point reguarding his minifig as the new film approaches.

Shipping prices on Bricklink
Captain Pirate Man replied to harrypotterstarwarsfan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don't disagree with that, that's why I said (or implyed) that is quicker and cheaper to buy from your country or surronding countries. I don't know why (maybe it's their postal system) but UK orders seem to arrive faster than from mainland Europe in my experiences. -
I got one in the London Escape, just one though (sword sheath). Maybe two, I would have to check again. I own most of the POTC line, but I bought some sets without the minifigs in order to save some money. I have like 5 Jack Sparrows, so I could careless about getting more of him, he comes in every set. As a matter of fact, Barbosa is really the only minifig from that line that I don't own that I wouldn't mind having. I would love to have a Davey Jones and Anjelica (but that's because of their value, not the characters so much.) I do have a Blackbeard and Gibbs. IMO Blackbeard is a MUST for any pirates fan, for obvious reasons, not because of the film.

I'm not sure what you are implying here? I personally could care less what critics think, most of the time. They are too far up their own rear ends to see anything objectively anyways. If a film is entertaining, fun, and enjoyable that means it is a good film imo. As long as it doesn't have major plot holes or sloppy writing anyways. I think we have already admitted (unaimously for the most part) that 2, 3, and 4 all have their fare share of issues.

Shipping prices on Bricklink
Captain Pirate Man replied to harrypotterstarwarsfan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have asked for quotes from people and its 50/50 that they even respond to it. One set I ordered, I waited and waited for the quote (that never came). So I just ended up buying it anyways, because it was the cheapest set in Bricklink at that time and I didn't want someone else snagging it from me while I'm waiting for a quote. Bottom line, some sellers don't care until you actually make an order, and even then, the communication is sometimes awful. My rule of thumb is simple, I live in the US so buying from the US is cheaper for me 9 out of 10 times. If I can't get something from US, I look at Canada and then the UK third. I don't buy from outside of those 3 very often anymore. They have just been the most reliable for me. Not a comment on mainland European sellers (because I've had good experience with many of them as well), but I have had a few really bad experiences as well. Things taking FOREVER, broken pieces, etc. So I've found sticking with what works best for you. If you live in mainland Europe, it's probably better to buy from those sellers than US sellers.
