  1. Maybe the new ship will be a UCS Black Pearl, it does make sense. It still does seem a little strange to me though. Has Lego done this with Star Wars before? Release two of the same sets, a collectors version and a "regular" version, even if it's not during the same wave? In just trying to understand if Lego has a history of this or not.
  2. Just to clarify, I personally don't have anything against minidolls. If you like them, more power to you. Yes they do turn me and my family "off" from any sets with them in it. But I'm not going to rain on anyone else's parade.
  3. @LOTR34, I just don't know if Johnny Depp wants to make any more of these films. That's why I would rather see them continue and go in a new direction, rather than end because Depp doesn't want to do it. Which it's a shame, because he really is great in that role.
  4. After reading everyone's thoughts here, and thinking about it more myself, I'm starting to think we probably will be getting a whole wave. The BIG sets tend to get the first news, so I think that's what's going on here. A big UCS ship is clearly happeneing, which is great news. But when you think about WHAT ship it could be raises interesting points. Yes I agree with Azog, if you can only have 1 POTC ship what one would you want? THE Black Pearl. But the problem with that is it's already been released, so how big of a market exists for a an upgraded Black Pearl? Because Pirates related sets are becoming more of an AFOL type theme. When you add that with the clearly high price, you are pretty much making it an adult only set, so wouldn't you WANT to make sure that all AFOLS will want it then? If they already have TBP, they might say pass on it. So that really makes me think it's going to the Dutchmen or one of the Ghost Ships. Which Lego has NOT done a proper ghost ship, and ghost ships are quite popular in the clone market. So that does beg the question. But as we said earlier, if you can only have 1 POTC ship, you would want TBP. So I'm guessing it will be getting a rerelease. That way any AFOLS that missed it, can get it now, and any kids that can only get 1 ship, can probably get it as well. So again, I'm getting the feeling a whole wave is going to happen. On top of that, if The Dutchman is NOT the UCS ship, I'm calling it now, it will be the third ship in the line. Maybe slightly more than the Pearl, but we'll under the UCS price. And if we are getting 3 ships, I suspect we will get some other sets as well. To summerize, I'm calling it now UCS Ghost Ship or perhaps the Dutchman Black Pearl reissue Midsize Dutchman (if it isn't the UCS ship) A few other smaller sets.
  5. I actually don't hate some of the minifigs from the nexo line. I did integrate the child Robin and a couple of the evil red orc type guys. They blended pretty well with my other stuff imo. Its the sets and the futuristic type stuff that doesn't work for me.
  6. I could see a ship being bigger than the IFS, especially from a licensed theme like POTC. I think as fans, we put the IFS on a pedastool, and rightly so, it's a beautiful ship. But I don't think it will always be the top dog, eventually it's bound to get one upped, maybe THIS is the ship to do it. Look at the modulars, everybody loves those, and rightly so. But the Ghostbusters HQ is bigger, better, and just plain cooler than ANY of the modulars. I know not everybody is going to agree with that, but IMO it's really hard to dispute that building for building that the GBHQ is not the superior set. So I could easily see Lego taking that same approach with this ship, really raising the bar.
  7. I don't disagree that it a matter of taste about which figure is "better". But let me ask you this, how would Lego fair if ALL minifigures were replaced by minidolls vs replacing minidoll sets with minifigures? Lego would NEVER dream of going full on minidoll, why is that? Because they know it would have massive ramifications. They would drop drastically in popularity. In the other hand, if they replaced minidolls with minifigures, yes there would be a certain level of frustration. But overall I don't think it would effect the sales of those sets all that much, at least not in the long term. Maybe for a year or two, yes, but eventually new kids would find their way to those themes and the minidolls would be forgotten. So while whichever figure you prefer is subjective, majority rules can not be so easily brushed aside. Meaning if 100 people say something is "better" it doesn't mean that it is indeed better, but it does mean that it is "better" to those 100 people. So yes to the majority, yes the minifigure is the superior figure. Its like arguing that you favorite local artist is better than Leonardo Da Vinci. Sure YOU might like them better, but not many people are going to agree with you. But beyond all of that, I'm not saying YOU indeed do this, but I have noticed that many Lego fans Will defend their every move. Which I am a huge Lego fan as well, but I also will criticize things I don't agree with or like. It doesn't make it wrong, it's just MY opinion. It just seems like many folks don't like that, they believe if Lego made a decision that it must be the correct one, and as a fan, they will defend that decision. Again I'm not saying that's YOU, but I have felt some people do indeed do that. As to your pint about me "generalizing" what girls like and dislike, or leaving minidolls behind as they age. Im saying that Because I have noticed many young girls, as they become 9, 10, etc, they "turn" on the whole Disney princess type of mentality that is shoved down their throats. These are young 21st century girls, not the girls of yesterday. They don't want to play house, have an easy bake oven, and they sure as heck DONT want to be a princess. I do believe girls are trending more towards similiar interests to what boys like, with certain exceptions. Yes girls like the "traditional" things when they are 5 or 6 and younger, I'm speaking as they age. Its not just my daughter I witnessed this change in, it's all of her friends as well. Its literally EVERY young girl I know has turned on the "traditional" ideology as they get older. So that is why I do feel the appropriate move would have been to make sets with minifigures. Minifigures would extend the interest girls have in these themes, I really believe that. If Lego is ok selling to just 5, 6, and 7 year olds than that's fine. But those same 5, 6, and 7 year olds would also buy them with minifigures, as would you 9, 10, and 11 year olds.
  8. I hope it's not the last movie. Even if they move on from Jack Sparrow, I wouldn't mind them continuing because it's the only pirates film series around. While I fully admit these films have flaws, it's better than nothing imo, which is what we will have without POTC. As for the Lego line, it would seem logical that other sets would come as well, besides the big one. But my counter point to that is the the BIG sets seem to be aimed more towards AFOLS. So maybe this is Lego hearing us older Pirate fans, and this is their compromise? To be honest with you, I would be ok if this is HOW Lego treated us older fans going forward, instead of a full wave, we get one big set from a classic theme every year. That would be great IMO. Sure I would love to get a full POTC wave, but one set is better than nothing, especially if it's a great set. Quality over quantity is a pretty good compromise imo.
  9. I realize that clearly the minidolls have found a market and are successful, but having said that I dislike them. My daughter does as well. She "liked" them for about a year, but it didn't last. She likes minifigures better, by a long shot. I have no problem with Lego making specialized sets geared more towards girls, but why not give them figures instead of dolls? I'll never understand that. Honestly I don't feel the minidolls will have the long term appeal that minifigures do, I really can't see them still being around 20 years from now, but I could be wrong. As a father of a daughter, I find the whole minidoll thing to be an example of sexism to a certain degree. Compared to minifigures they are the inferior figure (I don't think anyone can really argue this). So girls get their own Lego lines that are different and inferior to the "male" alternatives. I'm not saying it's this terrible injustice, just pointing out the elephant in the room. I'm not saying minidolls are awful, or don't serve a purpose. I do think they are quite popular amounts the younger 6-9 crowd. But the problem is that's about it. Once girls get to be 10 or so, they want adventures, not playing house anymore. Obviously the Elves line is a step in the right direction, but again it would have been MUCH better with minifigures. To quote my daughter "minidolls look dumb when holding things like swords and bows. Their arms are straight, and the wrists don't turn." you can't argue with her logic, because it's true. Who holds a sword or a bow with their arms fully extended? Lets be honest and call a spade a spade, they are intended for more playing dress up, not adventures. Obviously girls like my daughter could just move onto non minidoll sets, and she did. But the thing is, the Elves line would REALLY be up her ally, but she won't even look at them because of the dolls. I'm sure she would love to have a line tailored to Her interest. Her friends all feel the same way as well, as a matter of fact we will be selling all of her minidolls in our Bricklink store. Again I'm not disputing that minidolls have been popular in the demographic they were marketed towards, but I DO feel they would have still got that demographic and MORE with minifigures.
  10. My wife has already decided that "she is getting this."
  11. I'll just be happy to be getting something.
  12. We can dream right?
  13. That would be GREAT news, let's hope it's true. $250 for a ship means it will be a beauty and HUGE. Bigger than the IFS.
  14. I like seeing everyone's army's.
  15. The amount of Castle based CMF does suggest the theme will return at some point. Same goes for Pirates.
  16. I have 4 rogues, they mix well with my Forestmen figures. I really like the heads on them, they might be my favorite CMF yet. I also got 3 of the pirates.
  17. You have given me hope, with the news that none of the toy licensing has been announced yet.
  18. Those that prefer BBB, may I ask why? I also like the ship, but like I said earlier would actually gov the advantages to TBB.
  19. How awesome would a blue coat IFS for 30th anniversary be?
  20. I went to town, literally with the last double VIP. I don't know how much I'll be getting this go around, probably just some baseplates.
  21. How cheaply could the TH be bricklinks for? Has anyone done this?
