  1. Yes http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/pirzyk/misc/img_20160721_140721.jpg
  2. You also cannot attach a ME Models track directly to a Flex track piece (even if you are using it as a quarter segment). zephyr1934 ran into that at the NMRA show.
  3. The latter, though his interlocker did not actually operate the switch, just the signals. There are certain combination that are not allowed in his system. The levers were locked out from moving into those situations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Railway_signalling#Interlocking
  4. So the event we are participating in is part of the basic museum admission: http://www.msichicago.org/explore/whats-here/events/2016/summer-brick-party/
  5. "heavy" should be in quotes :P I think zephyr1934 was just grateful there was someone as pedantic about tables being flush as he is. Every time I do shows like this (where we borrow tables) I am so grateful for my club tables. Tomorrow is another borrowed table show :/
  6. The issue really is that it is in Orlando in July, not January. I think the latter most people would be open to it. If you are going to Orlando, then KSC is a better stop for the engineering types :)
  7. Thinking about doing TrainFest sometime in the future, maybe when they highlight the IC.
  8. Bumping this old thread. Several LUGs from the Chicago area are putting on a one day show at MSI this Saturday (16th July). I don't have the exact times but it should align with the hours the Museum is open and is tied to the Brick by Brick show.
  9. Here are my photos from the event: https://www.pirzyk.org/zenphoto/index.php?album=lego/national-train-show-2016-indy There was also 3 other failures on the IndyLUG layout including the C&NW diving twice!
  10. So for the 4ft side you probably can only go to R72s.
  11. Yes the R56 is 56 studs. If you are going to use baseplates under the track here is what you will need: R40 -> 15" for quarter curve, 30" (3 baseplates) for a half curve. R56 -> 20" (2 baseplates), 4 Baseplates for half curve R72 -> 25" (2 1/2 baseplates), 5 Baseplates R88 -> 30" (3 baseplates), 6 Baseplates R104 -> 35" (3 1/2 Baseplates), 7 baseplates Since the table is 48" you can probably squeeze the R72s in w/o baseplates (since there are 4 studs on each side to the edge of the baseplate.
  12. Nice save on the design! :) I can see someone actually doing that in real life.
  13. I saw this run for most of the weekend without any issues, though I was not watching it closely. The big attraction for the weekend was all the engines (at least 3 distinct, including once twice) and IR transmitters having issues with gravity. It is a great looking model with a very unique drive system. So Legoman666, when are you going to productize the power system? :D
  14. Is the jittering constant or follow a repeated cycle? I have seen it with PF motors as well under a constant heavy load (i.e. really long trains). It would do a 2 cycle jitter, clear up for a second and then another 2 cycle jitter. If I reduced the load, it would not exhibit the jitter. In a dual head setup, only 1 engine would jitter. You may want to swap motors to see if it is the train itself or the motor. Also does it jitter with just running the engine (i.e. no cars)?
  15. Oh this reminds me of Michael Gale's layout at BW 2015, he had the whole layout automated with DDC.
  16. I would not put it past PennLUG or TBRR to be able to pull it off :) Though most places that do this type of operation are permanent displays, no? I am not sure of any Train LUG that has that large of permanent setup. I know for us, we have to be able to setup in a few hours so having something that complex is probably a bit beyond our reach.
  17. Chris always does wonderful work especially in Cars. I like how each vehicle has it's wheels turned. BTW realized I am in the background of the first pic (black shirt and khaki shorts).
  18. Nice! I am in the camp as you, I have drilled holes to light my Maersk engines, I think adding the lights makes a world of difference. I can appreciate the purist point of view too, I use the LEGO lights in my EN.
  19. I still use this from when I was a kid: http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?G=cloth02#T=S&O={}
  20. It was good to talk to Coaster at BW. After seeing the switch point, makes me anticipate it even more!
  21. I second this, I'll be trying to buy it day 1. Seems all the Ideas sets I want are the really short production runs (Mars Rover & Research Institute) - JimP
  22. Oh wow... I would think they knew about this set before approving or licensing the set. Wonder if they have plans to radically change the design (like a Technics Submarine) or the license allows them to make a clone?
  23. I just tried to use the new BrickLink and it was unusable. The Catalog page never showed up. I wound up looking up the set number from BrickOwl
  24. I am surprised they picked (and got the license for) the Yellow Submarine. I will be picking up the Saturn V, I already have set 7468
