  1. There are a few people around here who do stickers. Ministickers.nl is one website. Zephyr1934 also has some on his BL site (I think)
  2. +1, great work to get all those details in! Any pics of the back?
  3. Hi Lapidem, Welcome to EB! This is a very good question. There is no simple answer here. Yes this helps quite a bit but still fails the rest of us when LEGO introduces a new color. I currently use Peeron's color chart list to map color names from different sites: http://peeron.com/inv/colors I just noticed they also have an "official" LEGO color chart that also lists Pantone, CMYK and RGB color codes: http://peeron.com/cgi-bin/invcgis/colorguide.cgi Comparing bricks based on color can be a problem because LEGO has some issues with being consistent in their colors, as shown in this MOC: The main thing I do is compare bricks of slightly different colors under good lighting. In my LEGO room, I have 5K LED lights so I now can see a difference between Light Gray and Light Bluish Gray. Under the old incandescence lights I could only see the difference between Dark Gray and Dark Bluish Gray. In both cases the latter bricks have this bluish hue to them whereas the older Grays have a more yellowish hue. One other "trick" I use is in BL to find all the parts the color is used in and then see if I have one of those parts to use as a reference. I recently did this to match 'Light Aqua' color and I had the baby bottle. Since the Baby Bottle only comes in one color, I knew this was the name of that color. Of course all this is of no use when you have weathered and faded bricks (or the above mentioned LEGO color matching issue). Hope this helps.
  4. On the issue of curves, I would think you need to swap out the middle flanged wheel for a blind wheel. Otherwise a very sharp model.
  5. There are several ways to buy parts. Buy someone else's collection on sites like Ebay, very hit or miss on what you will get. www.bricklink.com a ebay like site just dedicated to LEGO From LEGO itself The Pick A Brick Wall at your local LEGO store, though selection is limited. https://shop.lego.com/en-US/Pick-a-Brick Though selection is also limited but better than #1. Delivery usually takes 3 weeks for me. This is the option I use when I need between 200 and 1000 of a part (that they have available). https://www.lego.com/en-us/service/replacementparts LEGO Customer Service, you can get a larger selection of parts but they are also somewhat limited. They traditionally shut down the Buying Parts near the end of the Holiday Season to concentrate on missing/broken pieces. Delivery for me is about 2 weeks. The site limits sales to 200 per part. I think you can get larger quantities if you call them directly. Prices will vary wildly between all the sites so you will need to shop around and compare different sources. This depends on what batteries you use and what train you are pulling. I use the LEGO rechargeable battery https://shop.lego.com/en-US/LEGO-Power-Functions-Rechargeable-Battery-Box-8878 exclusively. Others in my LTC use rechargeable batteries in the standard LEGO battery box. We can get anywhere from 2 to 7 hours on a charge and then just put a different train on the line while the previous one is recharging. We usually can recharge in about 2 hours.
  6. I'm not interested in the holiday train. I'm looking for something larger to get me a good sized starting point for PF trains, if I choose to go into that direction. The 60052 cargo train looks nice but I'm not 100% convinced since the rolling stock doesn't appeal to me too much. I might want to buy additional rolling stock for it. Just because you buy the train set does not mean you need to build all the stock. You can use the parts to build your own stock. If you know of some rolling stock you like from an older set, you can download the instructions from https://www.lego.com/en-us/service/buildinginstructions?domainredir=service.lego.com&ignorereferer=true and build them yourself. Be aware some parts are quite rare and expensive on the open market. I usually buy the sets for a parts kit. Is there any interval that Lego releases Create Expert train sets in? I'm really bummed that I missed out on the Horizon Express! I would have bought two of those if I had known about it earlier No, you will find LEGO does this to all of the themes, they sort of do an interval until they don't. I don't know what either LTC and LUG means Sorry about that, LEGO Train Club (LTC) and LEGO User Group (LUG). I would never dream of selling my 9v tracks or trains I've had it for 16 or 17 years and I intend to keep it. I was just wondering wether the two work together nicely. I'm thinking of buying additional 9v switching track to allow 9v trains to pass over and PF trains to switch to a non-electric track. I'm imagining it as a kind of overhead-power-track and diesel-only track - if you know what I mean 9V switches run around $25-30 USD each. I am completely PF trains and ran my engines and stock just fine on the LTC's 9V layouts no problem. Also you can find instructions online on how to convert over 9V engines to PF, I have converted the Santa Fe and GP-38 to PF controlled (with the latter having to go through a livery change because of colors). If you want to get larger diameter curves (the LEGO curves are quite extreme as model trains go) you are currently limited to using the PF system, though there are third parties trying to solve that issue.
  7. Welcome to EB and back to LEGO Trains! There are several trains available right now, see https://shop.lego.com/en-US/Trains-Sets. There is also the Holiday Train, https://shop.lego.com/en-US/Winter-Holiday-Train-10254, and if you are interested in it, you should get it right now. It probably won't be around for all of the Christmas season, seems to be prime train selling season. Not that we know of. We are always hopeful. There has not been a Creator Expert train set released for a while now, the Horizon Express was the last one. You can find a list of all the old RC/PF trains you missed here: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=S&catString=124.577 If you really want 9V then yes but you will pay for it dearly. Prices are insane. Our LTC is moving away from 9V finally and most LUGs have already done so. At some point you won't be able to find replacement motors. 9V straight track runs around $5 a piece. Video too! We want proof this really happened
  8. Still marked New, Exclusive in the US. No Winter Village Sets are marked as retiring soon.
  9. I would go with the viaduct idea as you wouldn't have a mountain right next to the Palace Cinema. Maybe have a "small" building above it, small being a relative term in this LEGO town :) Also if you are planning on getting any EN like steam engine stock, the tunnel is too narrow, both the connecting rods and the door handles (on the coaches) will catch.
  10. Cool :) Glad I could help!
  11. Coaster stopped by the NILTC show today at the Addison Public Library and I took these pics of his prototype R104 switches, sitting on top of modified LEGO switches. He also showed us 2 of the 1/2 length 3D printed straights that were also painted, but I didn't take a pic of them :(
  12. I picked up the vintage train as well. Wound up using the O rings from the wheels in my LUG member's Metra train because his were so old. The O rings worked like a champ. I also have used the orange hand rails in my ICG GP-38 MOC. I will say the skin color on the minifigs is downright creepy. Looks like the ghostly undead. The pictures don't convey the creepy factor enough. Re track: when I got mine, the switch points were unusable, as they had not included the internal mechanicals (i.e. all the parts that move). It was an interesting learning experience, I probably won't buy another one any time soon.
  13. This is sad news but welcome back! I would add +1 to store the original trains away where you won't find them for a while. Maybe have your daughter store them again for your your son or their kids in the future? I will thank my parents was not getting rid of my Classic Space sets from when I was a kid.
  14. Yes :D But seriously, I am a bit surprised you haven't built the Daylight in LEGO Storm26: I am impressed you have the Daylight working on Flex track. I guess the astroturf is needed to hold the parts in place. Do you have any plans to make some Daylight passenger cars?
  15. Hi Coaster, So how many curve pieces do we need to order to get a 1/4, 1/2 or full loop? I specifically looking at the R200 and R328 versions.
  16. Nice, I am very impressed by the articulated bogies. I don't think I've seen anyone else attempt it (probably missed those threads).
  17. In this pic from the press release https://c1.staticfli...4fbef9f16_c.jpg you can clearly see the battery box and the IR receiver. I assume it is using the train motor, hence the 4 in 4-2-0 Wonder how long it would run on a charge with ME model curves? The rotating tree would slow it down a bit. Really need to skin that IR receiver green :D
  18. What I noticed from the designer video is that zephyr1934's idea of using rollerskates as micro (1w) train wheels was used. I am a bit disappointed that this is not a worthy replacement for the EN but that is clearly not what the designers intended. I think it does hit their design criteria well. I'll be buying at least one of them, maybe more for parts.
  19. I do this as well and wrap the cars up in 1/8in foam packaging material from Uline. My CoNO fits into a 10gal container and the Maersk container train fits into the 14gal one, with all 52 containers and 26 well cars.
  20. I would just use this door: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=4181&name=Door%201%20x%204%20x%205%20Train%20Left&category=[Door]#T=P&C=7 and hunt down a white sticker from some other set, or make your own stickers if you are adventurous.
  21. Oh yea I forgot about the R72 comment :)
  22. ... and that is willing to go to the LEGO/train shows we attend
  23. Or a 4 minute walk to CVS :P We worked around it by moving the location of the flex track. When I saw zephyr1934 having the issue, I went duh, that's right. Hence me bringing it up here so others will see it. Takeaway: remember to bring an Xacto knife to all shows, esp when flex track is involved :P
  24. +1 for the color scheme and I will add the scale looks as impressive. Looks like the engine traverses 4 straight segments (almost 64 studs long). I would love to see this sometime in person. How well does it run? I suspect that it will be happier on ME curves than the LEGO curves (or switch points).
  25. The PennTex Layout is always one I look for at BW and this year did not disappoint. Many ideas for our LUG to steal in future shows, including making our yard more interesting :P
