[MOC] Truck 6x6
Dalafik replied to Dalafik's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I see what you mean. I'll fix them. -
Hi, I've built a stupid simple truck. As you might have guessed already, it is largely inspired by iconic Soviet-Russian truck Ural. Driven by two L-motors and steered by a servo, it doesn't have any other motorized functions. The fifth wheel rotates in 2 dimensions and has a simple locking mechanism as seen in a recent 42078 set. However, I doubt it will function properly due to natural tendency to lean backwards under the towing force. Overall, this project is a failure. The initial goal was to built a 6x6 truck with differentials and none-ball-joints suspension. Although the goal was achieved, the front axle turned out to be a complete disaster. First, I had to swap a 6-link for a rather awkward system in order to make the front wheels steer for at least a bit . Second, this truck can't overcome even a tiny obstacle, cause the driving gear in the front begins crackle hysterically. This happens because I don't have the new 6145859 wheel bearing parts, so in order to fit the steering bar with the old ones I had to elevate the axle center 1 stud above the 5x7 frame. And the result simply do not sturdy enough to hold the affecting forces. However, I'm going to figure out a better design later in LDCad. Hopefully this MOC will mark my return to regular building, so I'm looking forward for your comments.

Hi, thank you for interest in my 42009 C-Model. You are free to make and distribute instructions to this model any way you want as long as you indicate me as the model's designer. If you want me to update the Rebrickable page, make 10 dummy posts in the special section of this forum, so I could send you my email via PM.

Great crawler indeed! The cage looks awesome, but how does it cope with rollovers? Also, I liked how you directed the video.

This is one of the most beautiful studless models in the midscale that I've seen! Wonderful design and functions, great job! -

Thanks for your kind and encouraging feedback, guys! BTW, I've already started making a ldr file, will update this post when its finished. -
[MOC] Rock Crawler
Dalafik posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, I haven't posted anything here for a long time, because nowadays I build very rarely due to health issues. But finally I managed to complete this model - the Rock Crawler. The idea was to improve the perfomance of the 9398 set while retaining the same power scheme: a L-motor on each axle for driving and one servo to steer both axles. I also wanted to bring model's appearance closer to reality (9398 looked more like a monster truck to me). However I wasn't sure until the last brick placed if fixed gear ratio 5:1 would be enough to achieve rock crawling capabilities. And, as you can see in the video below, it seems that the model is slightly heavy for this setup. Well, at least it looks like a proper rock crawler (note: the overall simplicity of design and heavy use of panels was determined by the effort to keep model strong). Oh, and that black panel 5x11 at the back should be white (no more left in my stock). So, what do you think about it? LDR file can be obtained here (please read notes there before downloading). And some more pics: -
[TC6] Secret Project

This model is very rich on functions, well done! My suggestion is that you need to wait for the upcoming Fire Plane set and use half cut panels from it to improve this project. -
[TC6] 3 Ton Linde Forklift
Dalafik replied to Nazgarot's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very useful links that you've provided, thanks a lot. Let me give a tip for your project - it is very important for model's appearance that the mast is placed as closer as possible to the front axle. As it can be seen on the photo of a real forklift that you've posted, it should be completely hidden by the front wheels when viewed from the side. Though it's not always possible to do completely with Lego, it makes a noticeable difference. I am looking forward to see how you handled this. -

Here is excerpt from the rules: No cutting, sculpting or modifying parts. Correct me if I'm wrong, but those shock absorbers don't seem to be original. -

1H2015 Video Reviews
Dalafik replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Good review Sariel, as usual. This B-model really deserves to be put on the front cover of the box. As for speed build - can't say it makes much difference, since your method in terms of clarity is yet behind sequence of still pictures, , for example. Most of the view is still occupied by the pile and the camera is fixed in a strict top-down position. It was hard for me to follow the building process, but, again, it's only my experience.Update: On second glance, perhaps, I'm too picky. I watched it once more and it's OK. -
[C-MODEL] 42009 Tow Truck

Looks promising. But I think that front window should be larger. See how MrTekneex did it with his Tow Truck. -
[TC6] Walking Dragline

I see two flaws of your project: the video and cubic shape of the main part of the model. If you improve these aspects then you'll have chances for podium. -
Hi, Pluto! I'm glad to see that my model has interested you. I considered doing something similar with fork, but discarded this option, partly because it would make the mast heavier, partly because 5x11 panel fitted in so nicely. By the way, you should try LDCad, it brings easiness of LDD into LDraw world (just switch camera to spin mode instead of 3D).
