May 616 - Eslandola's Escorted Trade Runs
Legostone replied to Kai NRG's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Well, I guess if its to late to change convoys I'll stay with it as I haven't signed up for the other convoy yet, i was waiting for your approval. If its really to late I'll stay with Clouding Blues. -

Winds Beauty is switching from Clouding Blues to Dragons Teeth! I'm sorry for the inconvenience! -
Nice seeing this ship again! I was hoping it wasn't gone for good! I'll try to implement some of these colourchanges into the original model once I have time to build again (as well as they are possible to me) and maybe redo the rigging - I'm not satisfied with the rigging of this one anymore. Bregir, you know who to message about what you want changed once I have time and if I have the parts for it ;) Note: The story build is nice too ;)

Great to see another ship from you, but may I ask how the sides are angled? I can't seem to see that. Not sure what else to say really, great ship as usual, although the cabin seems a little odd to me - can someone confirm if cabins like this actually existed? Well, the ETWC is easy to outnumber... ;) -
The Battle for the Grand Duchy of Prio
Legostone replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Okay, Ska, sorry for bothering you again about this, but I'm still not quite sure how the recruiting works - the math seems still off to me. Each ship brings its class level + 5 men per Crew level. A 2A has a class level of 2 and a crew level of 2. I just don't see how this ends at 25. Could you please explain this again? It sounds to me like class level * 10 + 2.5*crew level, but that would be rather odd to me. Maybe (classlevel+crewlevel*5)+5, but that would still be wrong with most other ships. -
The Battle for the Grand Duchy of Prio
Legostone replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
But that would give a class 2A 30 troops. Lets see what we know: White Skull(2A): 25 Corland Supplier(1T): 20 The Novitus(2WR): 20 Alexander(2F): 20 Golden Star(2F): 20 Peregrine(1T): 10 Wight spider(1WR): 10 Small fishing boat(0): 5 La Espada(0): 5 HMS isandlwana(0) 5 The Corland Supplier or Peregrine seems off to me, besides that we'll have to wait for Ska I guess. -

Well, there is alot of space for more guns on the upper deck, I'm sure that I could squeeze another 8 guns on there without it looking to odd... But I've always felt like WR classes were somewhat inconvenient in their pricing(to expensive for their cargo hold, to expensive to serve as a defending ship with their armarment). Also, their is not a single gunport on the second deck - if I really wanted I could make this vessel be about as well armed as a Margot-class ship of the line (who thought of that? Thats the name for the two ships of the line on the ship index;)) Short: if I would fit more guns on the upper deck I could get maybe 8 more guns on, for a WR rating, if I would also fill the second deck with guns this could easily be a warship with over 50 guns(22+20+10). But we'll have to see how this goes anyways. -

Thanks! I'm glad someone mentions it, I just felt like the sides needed some more decoration:D Thanks! Rigging: I'll try to add a spankersail (or the spars for it at least) once I have time to build again. The mistake with the masts (I guess this only counts for the fore- and main mast as the mizzen mast is quite a bit shorter and only has one platform on it) is way more difficult to fix (and I did it again on my frigate, you were literally 5 minutes late with this comment - it was just to late to fix it at the point I read this comment), so I'll keep it this way for now. I'll see about sails, everyone seems to want those... The tautness does annoy me too, but I always end up destabilising another part of the rigging while stabilising another, so I tend to end up with a compromise like this one. For the Bowsprit, I was actually thinking about that, but somehow forgot about it further down the line. I might still change it once I have time again. Hull: I think a bit more curvature would definitely help, but isn't really possible on a prefab, at least not with the default midsections. It might be possible with custom midsections though. The guns - I think those were basically the first thing I placed and never really considered moving up a deck, and I'll definitely not change it on this one;) But your idea does make sense, and I think you missed the point of weather - while this isn't a ship of the line, it still has its gunports on the lower deck and will most likely not be able to defend itself that well during bad weather unlike some frigates which would have their guns higher up. Thanks for your compliments on the Stern, I'm glad you like it:D Rating: For that I was thinking both of real indiamen - which were well armed most of the time - and the way the classes currently go. As of now, a trade vessel seems to have a gun rating 2 lower than its class level (5T - G:3; 4T2 - G:2, 3T1 - G:1, 2T - G: 0), so this one would be a fit for a class 8T with its 24 guns. If you look at real indiaman (for example the list on wikipedia, most of those were well armed too - and those in the range of a bit over 40 meters (this one is 120 studs long, at slightly under 3 studs a meter thats slightly over 40m) often had 26 guns+ (at least those where the armament is mentioned). And Indiaman seem to be a typical trade ship of the time. Thanks for your comment again, and same here - I want to see more ships for these seas! -

Thanks for following! I do think cloth sails would look better, but for that I would need to get some tools and material for that; I also fear that it takes so to long, I get distracted way to easily (the reason why I went with a under 24 hour build :P) Dear Ms, I'm glad I could deliver something worth delivering! I hope my engineers can build another ship to allow us to build even bigger convoys! She'll hopefully protect all our ships on their journeys! Sadly it'll be a while until the Monezterrell shipyards can deliver another ship this size as I have decided that we finally need to move them to the new world as there are so many more people interested in buying ships in these waters! It'll take a while but after we are done with that, but afterwards we don't have to wait as long to see the completed ships as they won't have to go through the dangerous journey to here anymore! Glad of your appreciation, Jerome Monezterrell Well, I might be able to churn out a ship this size in 19 hours, but sadly I get bored of building to quickly - the first 12 hours really were the most interesting part of the build, after that it got boring to quickly. Actually there is a maximum of half a stud offset with jumper plates - if you look into the WIP topic you can see the way I constructed the hull a bit better. But the tumblehome is overhanging another stud. I can't really explain it now, but at its widest point the hull is 20 studs wide due to the overhanging tumblehome. Gives me a lot of space on the deck for all that activity:P Thanks! I couldn't have kept the concentration for another 1 1/2 month ship anyways, so I had to go with a little smaller ship :P Gah, custom sails. I think I'll have to try that eventually, I guess you all want me do go with custom sails for my next ship... That was the plan all along anyways, right? Thanks! The Stern actually turned out pretty much exactly as I had planned:D I think the custom build flag is still one of my favourites too - even though this is far from the first ship on which I used it. I also used it on the Eslandolan build of the War Dwarf (which is Corrington owned now), on the Winds Beauty and, off course, on the Pride of Elysabethtown. Thanks! Wouldn't have been possible without your tutorial, even though she's pretty far away from that one by now:P Well, in a time limited build like this one I'm also quite limited on the part selection, and while I do have over 80000 parts lying around a quite large collection to chose from I'm still somewhat limited on certain parts. I guess the blue gunports aren't exactly the best choice, but I felt like white gunports on white wouldn't have worked, and those 2 colours are the only ones of which I have over 20... I guess I'll have to see on my next ship what I do for this... I always have trouble getting the rigging tightened up, you adjust one line to be tight and 5 other lines are not tight anymore. I just went with the best compromise afterwards. I still think its a big improvement over previous rigging on my other ships. Yeah, I wish someone had mentioned that curve before I was that deep into the build, from the point where it was mentioned I was annoyed by it but sadly it would've required me to basically start from hour 1 again which I don't think I would have still managed in time... Thanks everyone for your comments! I sure hope to use your recommendations on my next ship (which will be a while) -
Fantastic Brig you have there! Great use of CGHs technique! I think this is the first time I'm seeing this elaborate rigging combined with the original rigging pieces, its a good idea well executed! Those anchors look interesting, could you provide a picture of them?

Finished Build Update: Its done! I still have about 6 hours, but due to other stuff going on I'll leave it at the current status until I have time again - which I won't for the next 2 1/2 weeks. But no more talking, here are the pictures! Sailing towards me the broadside a picture of the Sterncastle with closed gunports (well, the side with the closed gunports (fun fact: there are still guns behind these, but it would be way to much effort to push them out too:P An overview without the fake water. The technique I used for the hull isn't to well visible sadly. A quick picture with the rest of my fleet. Sorry for the terrible editing, I just wanted to get a picture with all my ships ;)

Hello and welcome to the presentation of the latest acquisition of MAESTRO! Due to the increasing size of our fleet we felt like it was time to have some more bigger armed vessels to protect our convoys. So I sent my engineers off to develop a frigate that could carry a decent amount of guns for us! In a very short amount of time they managed to put together this ship, which will sail under the command of Captain Ben Zwitsers, who is under the command of Lady Elysabeth of the House of Drondil(Titus V). Lady Elysabeth has also decided to name our first Frigate Dragon's Revenge, more about that later. ________ A few days ago I had given myself the challenge to build a frigate in under 24 hours - and I think I've succeeded in about 19. That's 6 more hours for improvements I might make once I have time to build again:P So, here are the pictures: Sailing' with the wind! Ready to fire a broadside? The stern castle closed gunports and a view at the rigging - I think I did pretty well considering I was limited in time and ran out of string:P As I don't own the Transferata I can only picture the Dragon's Revenge with one of Titus V ships, the Arkady. And together with the other of my ships - well, the smallest amount of them are actually in my hands:P Sorry for terrible editing, I just wanted to have them all in one picture. So, a quick overview over the facts: 11 hours building the ship 4 hours rigging 3 hours sails 1 hour crew 20 guns on the gundeck 6 smaller guns on the upper deck 2 bowchasers Captain Ben Zwitsers Owned by Lady Elysabeth(Titus V) Build by the Monezterrell' Shipyards (might be coming at some point in the future :P) Trade company MAESTRO current crew consists of 25 men, but could easily go into the range of 40 For now we'll license it as a class 5HA, but likely upgrade it at a later point to a higher class once those are public; I expect this to be a class 7(L)A, even if I would have to add a few more guns for that :P Some notes: the masts and rigging are not entirely accurate (2 sections instead of 3, rigging going to the sides of the platforms instead of to the masts; also the curve for the gundeck is a bit to strong. Those are the things that I'll definitely not fix in the remaining 5 hours, but if you have any other suggestions I might make use of those once I have time again.

Legostone replied to Kai NRG's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
The Wringe II joins Double Duty. The Winds Beauty joins Clouding Blues. @Titus: Isn't the Arkady a 2WR? It is only a speed 2, so it would fit better into one of the speed 2 convoys. The Transferata (1T) would fit well into both of those too. -
While I'm not exactly interested in building a larger art building, weren't those supposed to only be available through upgrading?

Well, is there anything preventing them from selling the ships for 1 DB each to a random player interested? -
Hm, if we start with that now I'll have to talk facts - correct me if I'm wrong on your ship: The hull of the Henri is 22 studs wide at its widest point, the Margot and Pride of Elysabethtown are 18 studs wide, so the Henri is only slightly wider. The hull of the Henri is, excluding the bowsprit, 64 studs long, the Pride of Elysabethtown is around 89 studs long excluding the bowsprit, but including the head figurine; the Margot is a tiny bit shorter (5 midsections (8studs long) + 2 Stern/bow sections (14 studs long) + Sterncastle(5 studs on the Margot, 9 on the Pride of Elysabethtown) + bow decoration(12 studs on the Pride of Elysabethtown, 13 or 14 on the Margot). The part of the bowsprit thats overhanging the decoration around the bow is, as far as I can tell, 18 studs long on the Margot and 25 on the Pride of Elysabethtown; I think your bowsprit is also around 25 studs overhanging due to its angle:P But I'm still pretty sure you can get the Henri into the biggest fast class as fast ships tend to be a little smaller than ships of the line or full sized India/New Terraman:P As well as that you're still the only one in BOBS who has build a real ship this size with a custom hull which is another great achievement:P Kolonialbeamter, you are not allowed to discuss with us until you start building your ships outside of LDD;) On-topic: Winds Beauty is as disappointing as before, both the Wringe II and La Raenette didn't make it further than one port; I feel like MAESTRO finally needs a bigger shipyard...

Yes! Once I find time tomorrow and finish redo the headrails;) Today was no progress because I was in Hamburg visiting the Lego store and looking at some real ships:P wow, I wish I would've seen that technique before, I think I know what I might use on my next bigger ship with a tumblehome:D It'll likely be a while until then though:P

Why can't vessels captured by unknown be auctioned off?
-
Same here with a ship bought in auction! I think we need a tickbox in the ship license form as in ()ship not licensed ()ship not licensed, bought from another player ()ship licensed, captured ()ship licensed, bought from another player/faction/NPC ()ship licensed, should be unlicensed I think that should be all cases that matter. Would make licensing ships won in an auction and or captured a little less of a hassle for us and makes it easier to keep an overview for you I think;) The value I'm talking about should be in Y58 in April btw;) Great job anyways, the small differences are just minor inconveniences ;)

Update: hour 15: (break for food) Finished the ratlines! So much better than the rigging on my other ships! Sorry for the quality, phone camera and bad lighting due to it being night;) I'll take another break and hope to see some comments telling me if I should do sails next or redo the head rails next. Also: what parts of the rigging am I missing besides some to further connect the spars to the masts? I would be glad about some quick paint mockups on the picture or similar ;)

Update: hour 14: More ratlines:P I'm a bit further than halfway done, the entire starboard side is mostly done, I'm continuing on the port side now. Here is a quick update picture: I guess the gunports will stay as they are now, I'll do that different on the next ship. Your idea would likely not work as the sides are connected in a rather weird way (as I said, its a combination of CGHs and Sebeus technique with my own additions) which gives me a lot of space on the central deck but makes it more difficult to just raise a part of the ship as everything is connected with everything - which doesn't mean its the most stable hull:P I'm glad I didn't get that wrong, good luck working around that problem;) As I said, I'm always glad of criticising comments;) I think I'm getting quicker and quicker on the rigging, on the Pride of Elysabethtown (linked in the first post) I spent 5 hours on the rigging, on this one I'm 3 hours into the rigging and its already much more elaborate than on the PoE. I guess we can see what others think about the hull once I'm done with the rigging:P
