[MOC] Mini Claas Xerion
Andy D replied to nick97's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very, very nice! I like small creations like this and you really captured the CLAAS with this one. Clever steering solution also. If this is ever on Rebrickable I'll be in line for it! Andy D -
Holy Grail, Dream and Regret all the same... 8258 Crane Truck... Want another to replace both copies I sold. Regret selling both copies of my 8258... Bummer! But I will not pay $400 plus to replace. Andy D

@TechnicRCRacerVery cool! Reminds me of the 40th Chassis but with front suspension as well. Thanks for the photo. Andy D -
[MOD] 40th Anniversary Chassis

@Seasider Any more progress with your MODs? Though not a set, the Chassis is my favorite model of the year. Andy D -
[MOC] Dune Jumper

Very nice! Great color combinations and use of panels. Is the body removable? Or integrated? If removable it would be nice to see a frame photo or two. Thanks, Andy D -
@BrickG Not a glowing review! I would like to have a LEGO version of the 1701, but not too large, maybe the saucer no more than 4 inches. This review is another good reason to stick with LEGO! But thanks for doing this. Andy D

Very nice model. I have no place for it, but it is quite a piece of art and engineering. On the Designer video I saw the flamingo, I really like the flamingo (it's a personal joke), but I would like to build the flamingo. Andy D

Beyond Technic
Andy D replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't just build Technic, I also build Modular buildings and Winter Village that I update each year and in the Fall I have a large Halloween display that I also update each year. My LEGO year goes something like this... January thru August mainly Technic with some side builds in other themes that catch my interest. Modular buildings and maybe some Sci Fi-ish things September and October I work for on my Halloween display November and December I work on my Winter Village display. Then in January I start all over again. For me Technic satisfies a mechanical/scientific need I have and the other themes satisfy my artistic needs. Just MHO, YMMV, Andy D -
I have been using the Plano boxes (they were made as fishing tackle boxes) for several years. They are very durable and many have adjustable dividers to accomodate different size and numbers of parts. I mainly use them for Technic and Minifig stuff. I store bricks in Sterilite 15 qt. boxes in baggies or Glad storage containers. A few years ago I bought 20 of the Plano 3750 boxes, but it appears that they have changed their numbering system as the box doesn't look like the ones I have. I am in need of about 10 more so maybe the local outdoor store will have a choice in the fishing tackle area, or maybe the hobby/craft store. My total storage system is not just one type... I use 15 qt. Sterelite containers with... Plastic food storage bags and/or Entree size food storage containers Inside the 15 qt. Containers Plano boxes -- and -- Akro Mills drawer systems For me, storing LEGO is not a one-size fits all. Good luck with your storage solution, Andy D

[MOD] 40th Anniversary Chassis
Andy D replied to Seasider's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice assortment of mods! The first thing is that the larger wheels do look really good! When I get time I may follow your build with a new build of my own (copy yours). But not that much time for a couple of weeks. But I will still be following. Andy D -
If you are real serious about finding where the (or if) these pieces are required, something you might try... 1. Disassemble using the instructions in reverse order and pay close attention to the call-outs for each step. 2. Reassemble using instructions. I have had left over pieces, but it was usually because i missed a step. Depending on how serious you are, if you still have extra pieces, you might try to either buy a paper copy of the instructions or get a good scan from a known good paper copy. I have had LEGO downloaded instructions missing steps on some sets... Drove me nuts until I found what happened. Andy D

@Seasider I think I just found a difference in the parts lists (at least one difference). adf32 states that "The 78c07 Hose Ribbed 7mm D. 7L is absent", that is 1 part name/number and 2 parts, so that would account for the 109 vs 108 unique parts and the 569 vs 571 piece discrepancy in your spreadsheet vs the list posted by adf32. Are you planning to buy any of the sets? Or just build from parts on hand/bricklink? I am curious as to which set contributed which part(s). Did you do that comparison? Or do you plan to do that comparison? I think such a comparison could be really helpful for others who want to build the Chassis. Andy D

Great! I am looking forward to it. If you could, will you put a link to your original thread in this thread when you start, so I will be sure to follow it! Great work, sounds like you were extremely close. I hope one day I can r verse engineer models from resources like you had for the Chassis! Andy D

What do you do with a spare tire but no wheel? 5 tires in the box! I worked on mine 8 or 9 or so hours over 3 or 4 days. Andy D

Wow! I just finished this set last week (it also took me 8 to 9 hours). I was also very impressed with it and the build techniques, I also learned new things from the build. My favorite set is the 42009 , Mobile Crane followed by the 42042 Crawler Crane. I did not think I would like this set as much as I did. I have to agree with Jim (thanks for the great review) but this is really nice. Interesting techniques and functions. Strange thing, I got 5 tires (only 4 rims, but 5 tires). Andy D

Has anyone else tried to build this? I am in the process of building it now. Instead of pause-play, I just have the video in constant pause mode and I am using the arrow keys to advance and back-uo the video. I have spent about 2 hours so far and I am at the 5:49 point in the video. A this rate I have about 4 or 5 hours left. It is rather disconcerting following the video as Milan made a video of the disassembly, then reversed the video to provide build instructions, it still works well, though sometimes his hand is in the way off something I would like to see, but I just keep scrolling around until I see what I need to proceed. Overall, this is more difficult than building from PDF instructions, but still fun and challenging (what I like in a Technic build). I want to thank him (if he reads this forum) for providing the instructions. Andy D

Very nice micro Deathstar. Great parts use, easy to see now, yet hard to conceptualize. Very clever! Thanks for sharing this. Andy D

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Andy D replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Except the 10 cent per piece rule is not how TLG prices sets. If you look at the weight of the plastic in the 42061 and the number of big pieces I think you can see that the 42061 should cost more than the 42060. Also, 46 PF the 100 extra parts in the 42060 are the tiny tread links, not much good to me, in fact the number of small parts is the reason I did not, will not But the 42060. Just MHO, YMMV Andy D -
Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Andy D replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I like the Telehandler and would buy it even if it were not or the Chassis. The other sets, meh.. But I do like another Hover bike I found for the BMW. The Chassis was a really fun build, I highly recommend it. I built it and posted my impressions here... I'm I'm not really interested in any of the other second half sets, so the Chassis is probably it for me for Technic this yer. Andy D
