Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Andy D replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
A little change of topic... I've seen a couple of videos of the New York Toy Fair and no sign of the frame... I was really hoping for some different photos of the frame from the NY fair. Anybody seen any photos of the frame from the NY Fair? I think l am looking forward to the frame more than the sets. Andy D -
[MOD] 40th Anniversary Chassis
Andy D replied to Seasider's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Seasider Great job duplicating the model! It amazes me how some folks can duplicate models with only the photos available. Looking forward to your updates, also looking forward to your evaluation on how close you are to the official model when the instructions are available. I have 1 of the sets and the other 2 sets coming this week, so they will just be waiting for the instructions to be available, but I guess that will not be until August... But, lots of other LEGO to build between now and then. Andy D -
Thanks, I will check that out. @dr_spock whch Power Functions library did you use? Andy D

I have been looking at Arduino for various things, especially LEGO Power Functions control. I know I could use NXT, I have used NXT, I still have some NXT controllers but I am ready for something different and maybe smaller. i have never used Arduino, but I have a connection to microcontrollers and C programming and Arduino looks interesting. I am really interested in are some Arduino forums. There is a lot of learning available in online forums, witness Eurobricks. So, all that said, for those of you who use Arduino, what are some of your favorite Arduino forums and/or Arduino software and hardware learning sites. Yeah, I know, another hobby, as if LEGO and GoPro is not enough. TIA Andy D

Drat! I missed the adult building night, completely forgot about it. Although it does seem strange to have an adult night on Valentine's Day. Your sweetheart would have to be really understanding. But several times we have visited LegoLand CA on Valentine's Day. When is the LEGO Store adult build night? Andy D

Very nice reproduction! I saw the show when it first came out and then didn't see it again for many years. Now I have this series on DVD and watch it occasionally, it is still a good campy SciFi show. Are you going to try any of the other vehicles, like the Interceptors or maybe one of the U.F.O.'s? Amazing! So compact. Great job with adding functions, wouldn't have believed it possible had I not seen it. Andy D

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Andy D replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Boulderer what you say makes a lot of sense. I also have said that Technic is more about function than "pretty" models, I would have a hard time with the combiner model being it's own set, not sure I would have as much anticipation for it, but maybe I would warm up to it before it was released. For some reason it being a "C" model of three other models just appealed to me instantly. There are even 2 of the 3 models that I will buy (that I normally would not have any interest to me). I also think that LEGO will sell a lot more of the three required sets, just because people would like to build the "C" model, than they would of the model as it's own set. From a nostalgic point of view the chassis would be a perfect 40th anniversary set, I'm just not sure how well it would sell. just MHO, YMMV, Andy D -
Technic 2017 Set Discussion

This makes perfect sense. Even though I was not a Technic builder back in 1980, I really like the tribute to the 8860. I am not sure I would buy a set based on the 8860, but the idea of a C model based on three sets somehow appeals to me. This is the set I am most looking forward to this year. Andy D -
Summer 2017 sets
Andy D replied to Andy D's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Whoops, if this is a problem could a mod please move this thread. Sorry! Andy D -
I was looking for info on the Summer 2017 sets and I found a video from a European toy show. The most interesting one (to me) is not a new set, but a combination of three (3) sets from the first half. The model can be seen at about the :15 second mark in the video. I didn't see any "Confidential" marks, so I hope this is OK. enjoy, Andy D

@aeh5040 I think you might be correct. I just purchased the 42061 and 42062 from Amazon USA and neither of them have the number of parts on the box (like the out of USA sets) so, I think they must have been European sets that somehow made their way to the USA. I paid a somewhat premium price, but not too bad. Maybe I will get duplicates when they make it to the USA. I believe the mystery (to me) has been solved. Thanks, Andy D

Looks nice with the other modulars. Do you have any photos of your alt modular by itself? Andy D

Best Technic Set
Andy D replied to Pauger's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Still the 8258 and the 42009. I've disassembled and built the 42009 about 6 times. I must acquire a new 8258. I sold mine years ago when I thought I was more interested in modular buildings. Now I grind tha Technic and modulars can co-exist. Andy D -
My desire is the same as it has been for years... Get organized and build more. Sorting and organizing is a never ending process/project. Maybe some new storage solutions. Andy D

This is such a great addition to the Winter Village! You really should put this on Rebrickable! Andy D

Congratulations to the winners! Great entries all! Also to all who entered, great entries as well. looking forward to next year's contest. Andy D

I think the least expensive way is to buy large sets. For example the new modular building Assembly Square has 4002 pieces for $279.99 that's about $.07 per piece. Usually modular buildings and other large sets have a good variety of parts as well. I frequently buy 2 copies of each new modular. One to assemble, one for parts. In general just look for any large set that had parts you would like to accumulate. just MHO, YMMV, Andy D

I keep mine in several 15 qt. plastic, sealed tubs. I need to do a better job of sorting so I can find them easier though. At least they are fairly well protected. Andy D

@talex As Rotundus said "your age doesn't matter" look around on EB you will see a lot of us at 50, 60, 70 and even 80! Still snapping those bricks together. LEGO is an ageless hobby, for many of us it is about engineering, science an for me, most importantly art. I have often said that LEGO is the ultimate reusable art supply. No matter their age no one should have a need to justify a LEGO hobby, just have fun! just MHO, YMMV Andy D
