  1. I hate to reply to my own topic, but I think I want to build this. What are some tips for building from a video? i am considering downloading the video and importing it into iMovie to have frame control. Has anyone tried this? Or any other ideas. TIA Andy D
  2. Great! Glad you had a fun build. How about posting a photo? It would be good to see different results. Andy D
  3. Someone did create a parts list... https://studio.bricklink.com/v2/build/model.page?idModel=7086 IHTH Andy D
  4. I was looking around on YouTube the other day and I found these videos by Milan "grohl666" Reindl. They are of an alternate model for the BMW 42063, a very nice hover bike.. The first is a demonstration of the features… The second is a how-to video. Has anyone built this or any other model that has a 27 minute Youtube video as instruction. I’m just not sure how well that would work out of me. I really want to build it, maybe I will try. I accidentally put the demonstration video in twice, can someone please fix it for me... Jim... Help! Andy D
  5. Just for grins, I checked my POH (Parts On Hand) and I could almost build the Chassis from POH. Except I am missing... The red 3L axel connector. The 3 panels used for the bonnet. The proper color wheels (I only have grey, not black). So, it looks like I really needed to buy the sets to build the Chassis properly. Andy D
  6. Huh? The OP in this thread was on April 4. Or am I missing something? Andy D
  7. Oh, I misunderstood your orders. My feelings exactly! Who cares just want to build the Chassis. Andy D
  8. I saw another alternate BMW Hoverbike the other day, I may build it. But the instructions are only available on a 27 minute YouTube video. Andy D After a quick look at the parts list for the Ultralight, it appears that it does not contribute many parts, but among them are.. The fake engine parts. Some gears. A DBG panel used on the bonnet. A link used for steering. Maybe a few miscellaneous connector pins and such. It looks to me that it contributes about 30 parts, no more than 50. Andy D
  9. I guess I need to start watching my grammar, spelling, punctuation and captialization more. More moderators, more grammar and spell check. But it does make the forum more readable. Andy D
  10. @Milan Congratulations and if you are as annoying as @Jim (he's not annoying, but helpful) we will have a great forum. Thanks @Jim and @Milan for watching over us. Andy D
  11. @dellock6 So with shipping from 5 sellers that would be about 80 to 90 Euro total, not bad, let us know how the comes out. @julesvincent That sounds like a real good deal! The other day I decided to order another 3 sets so I could build it again and MOD it if I see some good mods. I have not thought of any compelling MODs yet. I think I did better out of pocket cost than either of you (of course I did have to use VIP points) I got the Ultralight on Amazon for $16 and after using my VIP points I got the other two sets from LEGO (plus a freebee) for $11... So $27 out of pocket. I would be interested if someone could determine what parts are used from what sets. At first glance I think that the Ultralight is not used for much besides the Fake engine, maybe a wheel used as an air cleaner on the engine. Maybe I will look at that just for curiosity, if someone had the cylinders, pistons, rods and crankshaft they might not need the Ultralight (but the LEGO designer had to assume that we did not have any of those parts). Andy D
  12. I was searching around and I found that someone created the Chassis in stud.io from the instructions. He says that there are 571 parts, I saw on another site that there are 572 parts, about the same. Heres a link... https://studio.bricklink.com/v2/build/model.page?idModel=7086 it looks pretty good, and should get you pretty close, don't know if will be cheaper than buying the sets (should be) but good luck. Andy D
  13. I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. I hope you enjoy building your model as much as I enjoyed building mine. As for mods, I haven't thought of any serious mods yet, but I am really looking forward to mods others come up with. Andy D
  14. I just added photos of the completed model to the first post. I also added photos of the left-overs. Quite a few left-overs, maybe 200 - 300, but I still don't regret buying the sets to make the model. It was much easier and faster for me to get the instant gratification of building the set, instead of waiting for Bricklink orders. I would rather build than watch my mail box waiting for parts. But that's just me. I hope you enjoyed the photos and my ramblings. If you have any questions or would like other photos, just ask and I will try to help. Andy D
  15. All you have to do is download the instructions from LEGO, free... https://mi-od-live-s.legocdn.com/r/www/r/service/-/media/franchises/customer service/technic/42063_40years.pdf Buy the sets, and build away. Yeah, you have to buy the sets, or just build from your parts, but there is no official parts list. Maybe someone with more time and patience than I will make a parts list. IHTH, Andy D @Seasider Be sure to let us know how close your's was to the original, it looked pretty good to me! Andy D
  16. I do now remember the thread where you started from photos. It was very good, I was so envious! Do you plan to finish up that version before doing the official version? I am looking forward to seeing your completed version, and any mods. The official version is so good that I have not thought of any mods I would like yet. As I mentioned, the gearbox, semi-differential and steering are all quite nice. The only thing I might consider adding (at this time) would be suspension to the front. I am going to try to finish mine today, then post photos. Andy D
  17. As long as it's not too long until the next trip. Andy D
  18. I bought it on Amazon from a third party seller. I didn't realize it was not a USA version until I received my order, but then I saw no part count on the box so I knew that somehow it was not a USA version. I think I may have overpaid, I forgot what I paid, but oh, well. I have since bought a USA boxed version from a local LEGO store. it were not for the 40 Year Chassis, I would not have had any interest in the Ultralight or the BMW (untilI saw the B model). Andy D
  19. Did you get them? Start building, this is a teriffic build, I know I will be sorry when it is done. Andy D
  20. Yeah, but that is as difficult for new users as searching the forum, and how many new users use the GLDI? Just MHO, YMMV Andy D
  21. I first saw images of this model in early February in videos from the German toy show with images of the Technic 2nd half sets. This model caught my attention more than the other sets, I was very intrigued by the model, so much so that I decided I really wanted to build it. I collected the sets and left them on the shelf, just waiting for the instructions to become available. I had read that the instructions would not be available until August, when the 2nd half sets were released. Like many others I was disappointed, but, oh, well! Imagine my surprise and amazement and happiness when I found that the instructions were available March 30 (at least that’s when I found out about them). There was a link to the instructions so I immediately downloaded them and started looking at them. I have since found that the instructions are available if you search on the Building Instructions page under any of the three sets used to build the model (42057 - ULTRALIGHT HELICOPTER, 42061 - TELEHANDLER and the 42063 - BMW R 1200 GS ADVENTURE) the instructions are there as an alternate model. I didn’t think I was going to have time anytime soon to start the build as I really wanted to build the BMW B-model first, but I broke down, ordered another 42063 for later and started to build. I am not going to do a full-on review, I will leave that to those who are more talented at doing reviews (I do hope someone does a good review). I am just going to post my impressions about the build and the final model. First some photos of the sets used to make up the model… 40th Anniversary Chassis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr My first step in any build is to sort. So one box at a time I opened them up and sorted the parts into a system that makes sense to me for finding parts to build the set. (this took me about 1 hour) Here is a photo of my resulting sort. 40th Anniversary Chassis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr Then I started to build. My first build time was 2 hours and I built up to page 101. During this first part I built the engine, gearbox, steering and dashboard. The gearbox is interesting, it has a 3-speed shift, but only 2 of them affect the engine, I guess that could be considered a neutral gear. The steering is nice, a very clever implementation. I know some have said that they think the model should be modded to incorporate a differential and full front suspension. It really doesn’t need either as I feel it is a great model in its own right. So far the frame portion has been a very interesting build, with lots of advanced and clever building techniques that I would expect only from a much larger set, well the total number of parts is 1062, so it is about the same as a good medium sized set and the cost was about the same (approximately $120 USD) as a medium size set. Overall I really feel that this model is worthy of being the model to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Technic as it is fun and challenging build full of interesting and challenging techniques. If you are "on the fence" about this model, I suggest you jump, get the sets and start to build. This model is totally worth it, lots of fun! More later, Andy D I finished the build today, it took about 1 1/2 hours to finish and take photos of the model and the left-over pieces. Most of the most interesting part of the build (to me) was in the first 111 pages, the last pages were just the seats. But, the seats do have a nice slide adjustment system. Here are a few photos of the Chassis… 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr Here are a few photos of the left-over pieces… 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr 40th Anniversary Chasis by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr There are 200 - 300 left-overs. Lots of pieces. They are all common pieces, very useful for modding or MOCing. But if you don’t want to spend the approx $120 USD, you could go through the instructions and make a list, or wait for someone else to make such a list. For me, I do not regret buying the sets, even though there a lots of left-over parts, I know I will use them sometime somewhere, and I think it was cheaper than buying the parts from Bricklink to build the model. I will leave that as an exercise to someone else. Be sure to let us know what it cost to buy just the parts. Well, I had a great time building the model, I would do it again (I probably will) and I am glad to share the photos and info. Any other questions, just ask. I still hope one of our great EB reviewers (like Sariel or Jim) will do a proper review. Andy D
  22. This thread is so very useful, but sometimes, particularly for new members it can be hard to find. I have often wondered why this thread is not pinned? Just MHO, YMMV, Andy D
  23. My method is similar. Except I keep them mixed in plastic storage bins. Better organization would be nice, but I still need to organize my LEGO better, which is never ending! Andy D
  24. Seems like the advice is always the same (good advice)... Get the oldest one first, because you're going to get hooked! We all do, did get hooked. The modulars are just like potato chips... You can't have just one! Good luck, Andy D
  25. Very nice! I really like the zombifivator! But a hamster zombie? Great eyes. BTW: This was the only good April Fools on EB this year! Thanks for that. Andy D
