Looks good! One note of (aesthetic) advice: The rear bogie might look better if it has some space in between the wheel sets to match the PF motor. Other than that, it looks really cool!

Double Lego Horizon Express 10233 with improved coupling
detjensrobert replied to Hanso's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Do you have any problems with one of the IR receivers not getting the signal but the other one does? It might be more reliable to have both motors running off one IR receiver in the front using a polarity switch. -
I've heard of adapted cars turned into rail speeders that had their steering wheel adapted for brake use, e.g. turning the wheel all the way to the right puts the brakes on. Not sure where I heard it though.

:wub_drool: :wub_drool: ...need i say more? Wow. Those are some really amazing sets, especially considering the pieces (or lack of) back then.

Looks good, but the top edges are quite angular and flat. Might be good to use some rounded bricks on the top to make it look smoother. Nice job with the yellow nose though.

...but grinds in the corners quite fiercely. It works, but not well. Try to get the center two axle assemblies to slide laterally.

Maybe they need to use the "super-cardboard" tube that my replacement door parts came in (sorry, not train related. ). You could seriously drive a (real) truck over it without it being deformed. We needed to use a sawzall to cut it up.

Track incline with vintage technic brick...
detjensrobert replied to marook's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I've found that light trains (like stock holiday train w/ 9v motor in engine) work OK with up to 1 brick per track segment, but that only works for trains less than 3 or 4 light cars long, and even then, it really struggles. This looks fine though. Ok, enough rambling on now. Neat use of the old Technic parts! If only they came in the current grey to match... What are you planning to use these for? -
With no mention of one this late? Probably not, but we'll just have to see how it all plays out.\ .

Oh, ok. Yeah, that would be bad if the booster 'sploded in the yard. .- 14 replies

Interesting tidbit! I wonder why it says "DO NOT HUMP"; is the rest of Florida full of innuendos too?- 14 replies

For ME Models, they are *eventually* going to offer metal track. For regular track, that looks like a good solution, but it might wear off easy with the constant friction from the wheels.

The building reminds me of "soft-story" apartment buildings.

...if it ever gets done here in California. There are still a lot of hoops to jump through, especially in Southern California. Still have my fingers crossed, though. .

Need some help with scale width 8 wide vs 6 wide
detjensrobert replied to SuRrEaLNJ's topic in LEGO Train Tech
If the loco is 8-wide and the rest of your rolling stock is 6-wide, I would suggest making the tender 7-wide to act as a kind of buffer. Putting 6w and 8w directly next to each other looks wierd, but with the addition of the 7w in between, it adds a transition that helps them look better. -Robert -
WIP - Persian Blue Steam Express - 4-6-2 - Model T
detjensrobert replied to dylanfarrow's topic in LEGO Train Tech
True, yeah, but it does not appear to be configured as such. You (hopefully) know what I meant anyway. :hmph: .- 11 replies

WIP - Persian Blue Steam Express - 4-6-2 - Model T
detjensrobert replied to dylanfarrow's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Looks good, except its missin the steam engine-y bits! Its not really a steam engine unless it has a smokestack and driving rods! -Robert- 11 replies

If you want to build something with only available parts, try running LDD in the regular mode (the blue one), not the "Extended" mode (the black one). Although I could not find the wheelsets, it supposedly only has bricks in the colors the are currently produced in. This might be easier than manually checking, but there are bound to be mistakes and missing parts. Might be worth a try. -Robert

Ok. I've heard varying opinions about them. It does seem that the Pi is more powerful though (there's even a version of Minecraft for it, believe it or not). Thanks for the clarification. .

These look good! Especially with the Light and Dark Blue. The station would probably be accepted in this Forum too, since it is train-related.

What's the difference between the Raspberry Pi and Arduino? Would they both work for these sort of things? .

Not sure if it can do much without couplers, but other than that, it looks good! .

At least in my collection of 9v track, all the straights are old grey, but the curves are a mix between the old grey and new bley. It makes sense that the World City sets are the new "bley", although I have no box to check from. .
