2016 Lego Wall Calendar - Miss Print
Vorkosigan replied to KringlesBricks's topic in General LEGO Discussion
So you got an extra gingerbread house? That is a pretty good deal. I don't know about the calendar. -
When doing a mod recently I was surprised at how dramatically the part 33215 changed between the Scooby Doo Mystery Mansion in 2015 and the Harry Potter Hogwarts in 2011. Is this a new change with this set? The changes are: The height of the turrets were lowered 1 plate height. The width next to the turrets was increased to allow placement of square bricks next to the sides (but still not the interior corner). Note the brown 2x2 L shaped brick. You can't place this on the 2011 version, only round bricks. You can see this effect on the interior too. The way the turrets protrude from the tower is significantly different. The embossing is slightly different, less 3D, and sharper edged. The first item especially seems like enough to change the part number, but admittedly I'm not an expert on part alternates. Didn't see anything obvious on bricklink about the versions.

This was a pretty simple mod but I think it makes for a more realistic look. The purple had a cartoony charm but is a bit too goofy for my taste. You might notice I don't have the numbers on the clock, that is because of missing pieces yet to arrive. The original for reference:

I started building the Mystery Mansion on Sunday, until I got to bag 6 and there were two identical small bags inside, the one with the vampire. So of course one of those should've been different. At first the support person was saying I'd have to inventory all the missing parts, but luckily they were able to send out replacement for both small bags. I was able to pretty much finish the build with parts I had, except for the clock numbers. I'll have three vampires ultimately (minus the hair and cape) and some other spares, so eventually it'll be a net positive.

Your expierence with fake lego clones products
Vorkosigan replied to YellowCorvette's topic in Community
Doesn't look like the colors would be a very good match (green looks too dark for example), they also appear to have some translucent-ness. Honestly the "classic" brick tubs are pretty cheap if you want mostly generic bricks. -
Though I haven't examined them in great detail, from what unboxings I've seen they tend to have a lot of non-LEGO. Some stuff like lighting kits are fine, Brickwarriors is borderline for me, and any actual offbrand bricks are a complete . I also tend to have enough specific stuff I want that dedicating some of my LEGO budget to things I have no control over doesn't make a lot of sense.

The printing on the hair bow is though. -
He's got all this info, but still hasn't put in the name for 30374 (The Lava Slinger)... Anyway I do appreciate the updates.

How to Inventory My Collection
Vorkosigan replied to john cleese's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I will leave the question of sorting out the most valuable pieces to someone with more experience, but regarding condition here is the definition of New directly from bricklink: "Parts are brand new, taken directly from new sets or were purchased "as new" in another form such as accessory packs or Pick A Brick and have been handled only for sorting. These parts have never been used in any manner. If a minifig is originally sold assembled by LEGO, its component parts after disassembly can also be listed as new." I can't speak to where some of the older "new" items come from, but do believe it may be possible to make money parting out a MISB set. -
How to Inventory My Collection
Vorkosigan replied to john cleese's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I do not run a bricklink store, but I can comment on new vs used. It has nothing to do with observable "mintness." A part is only new if it was removed directly from a sealed bag or purchased from PAB. It should not have ever been clicked together (there is some debate on this when it comes to packing PAB cups, but as a general rule). All parts coming from a mixed collection are definitely USED. Major scratches should be mentioned, or possibly you could sort parts into categories of condition and mark them, this sort of thing gets rather complicated. Chrome should always have condition described since it is very fragile. As to getting started I think you must sort your collection in a very detailed way to begin inventorying it. This is a lot of work and definitely requires purchasing either drawers or at a minimum many ziplock bags and some way of organizing them. Depending how much time you want to spend on this you may be better off sorting out some obvious high value items (minifigs, animals, train and monorail parts, pneumatics, motors etc) and selling those and then selling the rest as various bulk groups. -
Where can you see the rear of the crook's island? None of the official cache pictures show it.

Wow nice Gondor soldiers, really good custom printing.

I couldn't find much evidence of what that book was, probably something similar to the books they make nowadays to tie in to various themes: http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Nexo-Power-Rules-Knights/dp/0241254051 lightningtiger presumably thought it was an unreleased book and its title would have indicated a return of space police.

Perhaps they are alternating between vignettes and animals. I also wonder if the freebies for Christmas could be minifig vignettes next year, as they were last year. In a parallel fashion to how we got minifigure vignettes for purchase this year, but non-minifig scale freebies (train and gingerbread house).

That is not a new book, its from 1998: http://www.biblio.com/book/treasure-smuggler-nilsen-anna/d/258117872

I'm pretty confident they are pearl dark grey. Take a look at this picture: http://cache.lego.co...d=2400&hei=1800

Are you a Lego building masochist?
Vorkosigan replied to Cyanide-Tipped's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I use the numbered bags and keep my MOC parts very sorted, I don't like to search. Also: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=68697 http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=94192 http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=109727 -
Elwing's Elves MOCs: The Outhouse of the Elves!
Vorkosigan replied to Velouria's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Very quaint and colorful little build. Nice job. You can ask a moderator to change the title to something more generic if you want to add more builds. -
I don't know that there are firm rules about this, I'd say it depends how large/detailed the MODs or MOCs are. I'd group smaller / simpler builds.
-
Yea I'm tempted to get it for all the grey once it goes on discount, but it is a pretty neat build. The tunnel is a great touch. I also like the camper set, something about the van / SUV vehicle appeals to me. It looks realistically cheesy like a minivan or older SUV, instead of slick.

So I had hoped this was a Jan 1st wave but I'm guessing since official pictures aren't in the cache yet that this is a March release like wave 1?

Athena has come to visit and bless the loyal protectors of Greece. -
There are some nice looking sets for 2016 with great part selections. My favorite is the Adventure Camp Treehouse: The rafting set is also a decent parts pack: Another standout is the pop star house. An interesting build, only thing that is perplexing to me is the huge windows in the bathroom: Honorable mention to Olivia's Exploration Car. I don't care for the car itself but the astronomy elements and the robot are all quite nice. It'd be great if they made a large observatory set.

Probably my favorite set of this wave is Infernox Captures the Queen. This alternate image shows the queen can actually fit in side Infernox: The King's Mech is the only good guy set I'm tempted to buy: The bad guy minibuild is decent and I'm a fan of the mohawk on these demons: Lavaria has the coolest ultimate build: Here printing is not quite as interesting as the screenshot of Whiperela (sp?), but still good. I like the axe that come's with Macy's ultimate build but the trans armor on these is too out there. Moltor has some really great printing: Lastly here are closeups of more Books:
