  1. Too bad the movie wasn't half this awesome. That is one impressive display.
  2. I like how sinister it looks, and no detail went unnoticed. Very nice indeed.
  3. As Jhaelgo stated, it probably makes more economic sense to buy a nice used one than bricklink an original. If, however, you're willing to do modifications and stray from the original, bricklink might be a good option. I would suggest taking a look at the work Reflexes did, which I find most impressive. http://www.eurobrick...es#entry2218261 I'm actually planning on incorporating his engine design as I like it more than the original. Edit: nvm, it looks like you're aware of his work.
  4. I like the changes, the curved slopes on the engines look excellent. Are the engines more solid than they were with the changes to the front? I remember building them they were rather fragile with that cross-axel configuration in the rear; I thought about bolstering the inner frame so that they couldn't collapse on each other, but didn't bother. That looks to be a nice improvement. The front struts also look great. I might have to do the engine mods; but I love the rest of the original ;) How do you attach the domes in the new version? It looks like you would need considerably more rubber bands for it.
  5. Here's my brick-built dish, for what it's worth.
  6. That is excellent. Echoing everyone else that AT-AT is very nice.
  7. I don't understand the white Falcon argument either. I must have watched the movies hundreds of times as a kid and never once thought of it as being white.
  8. I fail to see how the set is a step backwards. Actual studio models off-screen, in normal lighting, look nothing like they do on-screen. I think if you took a poll of fans most would tell you the Falcon is more gray than white. Perception is important when dealing with fiction ;) It's actually one of the only non UCS sets I'm tempted to buy.
  9. I built Brickwright's y-wing that ScottishDave linked. I think it's far better than the UCS version. There are a few bugs in the instructions, but it's easy to figure out. It's a rather fun and complicated build but it looks amazing in person. It's also pretty cheap to build as used and old gray bricks actually make it look better.
  10. The really fun part is checking all the orders to make sure everything came as ordered so you don't get half way through and discover a crucial missing component ;) You've done everything right so far though :)
  11. The seagull took this review to a whole new level.
  12. This is excellent. I'll have to add it to my growing list of Mocs that need to be built.
  13. Like the inclusion of Mara Jade :)
  14. One of the easiest quick fixes you can do is just to move the front stand up to the hangerbay. That changes the leverage considerably. I also added a bunch of additional clamps that the set uses. It seems quite solid now.
  15. There are a number of posts on the eurobricks forum that go into detail about alternate parts/colors that can be used for significant savings. If memory serves Lobot had a very useful post from when he tackled it. The engine mod is a great cost saver that looks fantastic. I know I saved a lot of money reversing the light/dark gray color combinations on the hinges. Also, some of the parts can be gotten much cheaper from PAB and Bricks n Pieces than bricklink.
  16. Make sure you make a spreadsheet from the bricklink inventory and create a wanted list to keep track of all your orders or you're going to end up spending a fortune. As Markalus said, used pieces and old gray pieces look fantastic with the set. I tried to strategically place my old gray pieces in mine and I wish I had had more of them to use.
  17. Steal away! I'm already planning some modifications.
  18. Here's my current bridge. Again, a lot of the ideas were taken from Jerac's masterpiece. http://i60.tinypic.com/k535s8.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/kamryb.jpg I like what you did with the top of the bridge. I debated using the 1x1 clips as well to get that look but thought it might look too thick. Looks good on yours though, I might try it.
  19. I'll have to post some pictures of my redone bridge; you might like some of the styling ques. I overhauled it in the spirit of Jerac's masterpiece and even in this scale it looks amazing.
  20. I wonder if they made a top hull for it. That's the only thing that could make this more amazing than it already is.
  21. I enjoy replicating his mods, especially the ISD engines one.
  22. Very nice and very simple. I think you'll be encouraging a great many people to try this ;)
  23. You've done an excellent job capturing the chaotic mass of machinery and unknown gizmos; that's one of the things I think we all love about Star Wars :)
  24. I take it you already have the wheels, globes and 6x16 tile plates? Getting those in bley would cost half your budget easily. For $600 you might be able to pick up a used one on good condition. I've actually found there to be fewer bley versions for sale, but I picked up a nice used one with box and manual for $700.
