  1. I actually liked his original cockpit design, even though the final version is more accurate.
  2. Greetings, I'm trying to find the best/most accurate minifig scale tie fighter moc to date. I realize this is somewhat subjective, but so far I've settled on Jerac's version (here), though this is perhaps a slightly smaller than scale, and doesn't actually accept a minifig in the cockpit. It is an excellent moc however. Does anyone know of another of this quality? I would like to build one to go a long with my modded version of Imperialfleet's fantastic Vader's Tie Advanced. Suggestions?
  3. ^This. Retiring the current Death Star (the best selling lego set of all time) and replacing it with Starkiller base would be absolute stupidity. As for what the new one would bring over the old one, other than updated figures at a few cosmetic interior tweaks I have no idea. That set is arguably the best value for the money Star Wars set Lego has ever produced.
  4. Having seen the end of the movie three times now, I sure as hell hope that's the title.
  5. Impressive. Most impressive. Empire quotes aside, that engine section is just amazing.
  6. Having seen the movie several times now Kylo Ren's shuttle has definitely grown on me, at least in the movie. I'd love a UCS version of it. The system scale one is lacking. The only other ship I really liked in the movie was the FO Star Destroyer, to which there is no set.
  7. However, as a newcomer, you may not know that any information from Cavegod can almost be considered written in stone.
  8. I don't think they would have retired the current DS just to replace it with a base that may or may not become very popular. Let's face it, Starkiller base is never going to have the allure of the original DS.
  9. Well, that's quite the bombshell to come completely out of nowhere. I don't know where I'm going to find the space to put all these sets.
  10. I certainly would have liked to have seen more ships in the movie, however I understand why the ones they had weren't drastically different. Imagine how long it would take to build something the size and complexity of a Star Destroyer? It makes an aircraft carrier look like a motorcycle. 30 years isn't that long of a time span. Also, I would imagine in the immediate aftermath of Endor the Empire was in complete disarray and there was a pretty good lull in ship building/development.
  11. I believe Brickcommander stated in one of the other threads that the material they had to work off for Ren's shuttle didn't show the wings folding.
  12. As Lobot said, Bricklink is quite amazing once you learn it. Spend some time reading their help section. I was a bit intimidated by it at first, but once learned, I built a 10179 for $500 and have recreated several of the excellent builds posted on this forum over time for very little money. Well worth your time.
  13. I think a lot of us were probably too young to have seen the originals in theater and been made to wait years between movies. I believe that has an enormous impact on how we perceived them. When I first saw A New Hope, I got to watch Empire right after it. Imagine if you saw A New Hope for the first time this year, and then had to wait years for Emipre. Would you still like Star Wars? Absolutely. Would you be obsessed with it? Depends on the person. Empire Strikes Back is a masterpiece; it is also the anchor for episodes IV and VI, and really the entire franchise. A New Hope by itself in 1977 is a huge deal because as people have said, it's the original; it's the beginning. It's a fun story, and there had never been anything like it. An entire universe of possibilities was created. But you add Empire to the mix, and it really elevates A New Hope. Empire took all of those possibilities and made the most of them. I think Episode 8 will be the determining factor in how 7 is perceived in the years to come. The Force Awakens has reset the stage. It's created some good (Rey is great) characters and it's set up a lot of possibilities just as A New Hope did. If they (Rian) can somehow create a second movement (as Kershner called it) and really flush out the characters and story's true possiblities, than I think it will be seen as on par with A New Hope. Then it will be the beginning of a new wonderful era. If they do what they did for this movie, and just rehash Empire, than I think the trilogy will be seen as simply fun. Not a bad thing, but not true greatness. We shall see. Either way, TFA is a lot of fun and beats the hell out of any of the Prequels. (except for Ewan McGregor's performance in the final scene. That was Star Wars worthy.)
  14. I believe the majority here are correct: there is no way the UCS Hoth set will include an AT-AT; the piece count doesn't even come close to allowing that. That being said, I don't see how the set can possibly impress with a mere 2,000 pieces. If Hoth sells that well, they should have just gone all out and made a quality 3,800 piece monstrosity like the now retiring Death Star. This is just going to waste what could have been an actual UCS AT-AT, which would have been enormously popular.
  15. It's possible that the upcoming revamp of the Death Star will contain a number of them, as the original did as well.
  16. That thought had crossed my mind. They would most likely have to up the piece count considerably though, which could start to push it close to the $500 mark again. I don't know if Lego is prepared to do that again, especially for a playable set. Although I hope so :)
  17. Still available on the US Shop@Home but I imagine they'll be gone very, very soon. Hard to see how a new version could improve much. Can't wait to find out though.
  18. Isn't it Business 101 to keep selling a product that there's high demand for? I don't understand why Lego retires sets that sell well. Makes no sense. USA Lego S@H just says "Sold out". Doesn't have the retiring soon flag.
  19. To be fair, there is a difference between a gap that is a result of the build design, versus one that is created by the forces of gravity. The MF structural design contained gaps. This was evident from the start and it doesn't deteriorate. In the case of the Slave 1, if a gap is indeed created by gravity and deteriorates over time, that is a design flaw. Quite a difference there; especially given the Slave 1 doesn't have much weight to it, unlike 10030. That being said, mine does not appear to sag at all and seems quite solid. Given how light that part of the ship is, the angle it assumes on the stand, and how solid it feels, I was rather surprised to see a picture with a gap like that. Also, Brickcommander, are you making these comments as a spokesman for Lego? You're rather testy my friend, and at least in America you have to be careful with things like that on forums ;)
  20. I can't decide which is more amazing; the AT-AT or the shuttle. Either way, you Sir, are a master.
  21. That looks fantastic, especially for that scale. I really like the core interior details. It's a shame the Trade Federation was portrayed so incredibly awful in the prequels.
  22. lol. Amazing.
  23. There are ways of making that point without sounding like an obnoxious hypocrite.
  24. If this is accurate they really missed an opportunity for a Hoth UCS set. That doesn't seem worthy of the UCS label, whereas an AT-AT could have been an immediate classic.
  25. I've heard there might be a little bit of demand for a UCS AT-AT ;)
