This is correct. It's also reaffirmed in the Lost Stars novel, which is official canon now.

No missile shooters? What a piece of crap.

The Venator gets tons of support. A good build is a good build, regardless of whether or not people like the subject matter, and he did an excellent job.

Bricklinking the 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon :-)

It's enormous in person. Displaying it can be quite difficult -
My Cavegod UCS build via cjd223's instructions
Schneeds replied to lanesteele240's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Good points, but that would be a massive undertaking to say the least. I thought bricklinking 10179 was a major undertaking but this is another animal all together. -
I won't lie, last year's Admiral Yularen was a motivating factor in picking up 75055. I know there are a lot of people like me who want to fill out the Death Star conference room table. That's a great kind of fig to have: not a major must have, but a nice supporting one that dedicated fans would love. Given there's a new Death Star soon to be released, they could have gone that route again.

[MOC] Star Destroyer bridge in a limited space
Schneeds replied to Raskolnikov's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I always liked your mod, Goatman. Looking forward to seeing your finished product, Raskolnikov. I've played around with the idea of trying to make a mini bridge for the 10030. -
Bricklinking a 75059 Sandcrawler without the play features
Schneeds replied to General Magma's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Well, we definitely didn't need your post, as it contributed nothing to the discussion and was simply snide. As to the original question, I think buying a used set without minifigs would probably be your best bet. -
Did you save enough that you think it was worth it in the end, or if you had to do it again would you just buy a used set?

Might not be 100% but it's pretty close to that. Amazingbricks stated it way back and all evidence points to it. It would be absolutely stupid on Lego's part to discontinue the Death Star when it's the best selling set ever and then not refresh it after 8 years.
-
Even if they simply re-released the same DS again, they'd raise the price. It's an 8 year old set and one of the best values that hasn't been adjusted for inflation or inflated licensing costs. I suspect the "bigger and more detailed" will simply be an excuse to try to justify the enormous price in the eyes of fans, but I double piece count-wise it will be that much bigger. Hope I'm wrong.

Link number 3 above has some great designs in it, and the engine mods would save you a lot of money. I know people have tossed out the idea of using ball joints, and it may well be possible, but I don't recall seeing a thread with it actually done. Also problematic are the large snot plates that are extremely rare and expensive; people tend to forget about them. You also have the one half of the shield generators piece that are quite expensive as well. All in all, even with significant mods, it's still an expensive venture.

I agree, but it would also end up being $500+

[MOC] The GHOST from Star Wars: Rebels
Schneeds replied to DarthTwoShedsJackson's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Your version is fantastic, and I think the scale is perfect. I wish I had the time in order to try and recreate it; The photographs reveal it's more of a complicated build than I originally thought. -
[MOD] [MOC] [WIP] Carbon Freezing Chamber
Schneeds replied to Richpepperell's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That is such a wonderful "mod". It's not over done at all. I don't know if the claw assembly is movie accurate or not but I don't need to check because it looks outstanding and fits in perfectly regardless. I'd buy it -
Markus never fails to deliver.

It's double VIP points now ;)

I believe Lobot bricklinked the UCS Death Star II and said it was actually quite easy and affordable. Looks like it's basic common pieces for the vast majority of it.

Finally caved and picked up a Sandcrawler. It'll be a fun mod project
-
I don't think can you assume that at all. They didn't leave anything out of the original version that plays a bigger role than the throne room, quite the contrary. They actually had more than enough space for everything.

Could we ever see a remake of these UCS sets
Schneeds replied to Distorted Vision's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Those sets also had tremendous value for the price point. The Death Star had 3,800 pieces encompassing a huge set, 20 desirable minifigs, and was just a great design and build all around. Now compare that to the value of the new Hoth set, or the price/value point on many of the new TFA sets. The question isn't so much the price, it's what Lego is willing to give you for said price. And these days, the equivalent for 10030 or 10179 would carry a staggering price tag. Unless of course, they change that. -
Could we ever see a remake of these UCS sets
Schneeds replied to Distorted Vision's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think a Y-wing would probably do well, as it would be in that $200 price point range. As for releases of the ISD and MF... the MF in today's pricing trend would be a $600 set. That's not going to sell well, and that's why it hasn't been released. If they do UCS versions of the ISD and MF again, I would not be surprised if they were smaller versions. -
I agree with Reputator, it looks great in the current design.

I'd be happy with that :) I just figured if they thought people would buy a large Darth Maul bust, why not a large scale shield generator? ;)
-
I actually think it would have been better to simply make two large scale, detailed models out of the ion cannon and shield generator using 2,500 pieces and maybe a mini fig or two. Recognizable, iconic, displayable, and different.
