Yup......I worked on a project about a year ago where I opened the valves with actuators and it variably controlled my LPE quite nicely. More at http://mocpages.com/moc.php/393479

??? - I see the relevance of reason B but not A. Reason (a) states the obvious.... but doesn't give a reason for a change in color. It tells us that certain colors are associated with function..... but that is not the reason for the post. The second reason (b) does address the question. It states that color changes are necessary to draw the eye to certain different functions in a model like the example that a 20T gear in black as a knob but tan when used in like a gearbox. Also, as mentioned by @victor imaginator, it is to assist with instruction readability. This is especially noticeable in large UCS SW sets. The internal Technic chassis for many of these models are especially polychromatic. Check out the R2D2 instructions (UCS) for an illustration.Colors all over the place......

Agreed. Looks are also much easier with the small cylinders. Can't really compare LPEs with small cylinders with those with the large cylinders IMO, kinda two different beasts altogether. Also, gotta consider functioning..... Alex's engines @ LPE power are very powerful and functional..... this one probably not so much (again with the small cylinder thing....)

Not sure of this has been pointed out yet..... don't have time to read all responses..... but as a technic fan all I can say is FLEX AXLES BABY!!!!! -
I have written on this and other forums the lack of utility of the PP tires. They are even mor expensive than RC tires, do not perform as well, and can even be dwarfed by the right tires. Below is a pic of tires I used on my unimog compared to the 8110 tires. Clear difference. I (as you can see in the pics below and on my MOCpages) am a big fan of rC tires. The only reason I can see for the PP tires is if one is a LEGO purist....which I am not

transporting a moc via aeroplane
nerdsforprez replied to BrickCurve's topic in General LEGO Discussion
For what is is worth, I am in the military and have moved my collection several times. Although never by plane, the following tips might be helpful. I am not sure what you are moving, but large sets, IMO, need additional support if moving long distances. Even if built incredibly strong, LEGO elements just won't hold up well if they weight several kilos. How big is your MOC? I moved both the below: by pacing two-by-fours underneath the (crane) and a piece of plywood under the diorama. This allows the internal chassis or main construction of the models remain intact. Both are over 4,000 pieces and therefore very heavy but both have traveled over 1300 miles with no problems (the diorama lost a few pieces up top, but easily found in the box and an easy fix. If you can keep the main structure of the model intact, the rest of the model will stay intact as well). Smaller models I place in a box (with padding) and place that box in another box. With this approach, although there may be shifting it is the inner box that is shifted and the inner contents (the MOC) remains intact. The inner box moves as a whole, and therefore no harms comes to it. For padding I have actually found that tons of plastic bags actually works better than styrofoam or other forms of padding, and currently it is my preferred method of adding padding...... I am actually moving at the current time. I will be documenting the process and after my move hopefully provide some write-up of the process and success...... -

Second this comment. Bodywork really stands out. Love to have this supercar in my new office...... -
Wonderful review. Thanks Jim. As I have said before..... usually I really enjoy my summers. Hot weather, water sports, beaches, bikinis and ice cream. But now I just want it over......so that I can get my hands on this puppy.....

Agreed.... I was looking more for like an algebraic formula where you solve for an unknown. You could estimate with the unknowns and get hypothesized results. For example, if you estimate there are 1000 entries per state, then x would be the odds of winning. If you think that 5000 votes are more likely per state, then your answer would be y. This at least would give you a range of possibilities......

@dr_spock - Agreed. Although it is fun to hold LEGO to our adult standards, I think it is somewhat irresponsible. Ego-centrism aside, LEGO sets just aren't built for adults. Now, that being said, no one should feel embarrassed that there are some adults on sites like this one who just do amazing things with LEGO. Quite the contrary….. it makes it awesome! But, I kinda think that an adult pointing out that LEGO doesn’t create things realistic enough is like an adult pointing out the lack of color variety in Crayola Crayons. The obvious retort would be, they just aren’t made for adults! And the fact that I point this out does NOTHING to take away the awesomeness or appropriateness of adults employing their awesome skills to do something great with something that was and is built for a different purpose or population in mind. Such is life and many times something that occurs both in ART, ENGINEERING, and MEDICINE. I know there are many engineers on here, I work in medicine, and I know there are many artistically inclined folks on here as well. Each of us, I am sure, could point to several examples where something meant for some purpose was actually used for another, with great results. But, great results notwithstanding, if I use something that was built for something else or another population in mind, I would look kinda foolish for pointing out that the certain something does not meet my certain need. In my field, CAT scans are great for a certain medical need and most often for certain populations. However, many physicians can and do great things with CAT scans outside of the parameters that they were originally designed for. Nothing wrong with that…. in fact it is great. However, I think that it would be somewhat meaningless for them to point out: These CAT scans aren’t very accurate when it comes to detecting more mild brain injuries, or that their resolution is really poor, etc. etc. They weren’t designed for that purposed and despite the fact that some people can do really ingenious reads with them they really shouldn’t be held to those standards. There are other types of machines that were and are built for those needs and different clinical populations. Not trying to pile on DrJB's post. I understand the background here. I just, like others, kinda question the point of the post. We all (and admittedly, I don't have the training or expertise of many on here) understand the inaccuracies of LEGO Technic sets. And that really is not a bad thing......it opens up a whole world of MOCing and MODing.....

Last day to send in entries!! I just sent my last. Missed 6 days. Not too bad. Anyone want to take a stab at odds of winning in their respective countries? I really have no idea how many entries will be posted. But..... for crap's sake lets say, at least in the US there are 1000 entries per state (I understand this is a broad generalization not to mentioned probably way off) thats 50000 entries. Now.....750 possible winners out of 50000... thats... but wait have to take into account only 75 winners per state so it kinda depends on where the cards fall (per state).... I know there likely is a formula to account for all this but this all surpasses my mathematical capabilities not to mention my time. Anyone have an idea of odds of winning this thing? Is it listed somewhere? I never saw it on the promo..... It does mention that it all depends on entries. This goes without saying. A formula can still be created that would account for the number of unknown entries as a variable. Plug in several variables and we could perhaps just get a range of possibilities....

Advanced Models 10248 Ferrari F40: Discussion Topic
nerdsforprez replied to XAxles's topic in LEGO Licensed
It's not that I have a problem with the model. I don't. For the small scale TLG actually did really well IMO. The problem is with the choice to go small in the first place. In my mind, you really can't sell an adult-themed model (which, let's not kid ourselves, it is. Our kids are not salivating over this car that was produced in the 80's and 90's) in such small scale. Offer me something that is really adult-sized or themed, like 2000 pieces or something, with a full technic chassis, drive train etc. and you will get my attention. I hear people raving about a set less than 100 dollars USD…..and although that is a good price why go cheap/small on something that is supposed to be epic??? This is not epic in my mind and therefore has little appeal to me….. -

@Ondra -agreed. Not a fan. Looks more like a kid's set than an adults..... and may even have been built more with kids in mind than we realize. I easily would have paid $2-300 dollars for a 1:12, 2,000 piece set with more technic elements and functionality. Although rumors hinted that it would not be so, this to me is still just too underwhelming. People have to realize that small sizes are likely to look bricky or pixelated, and that is exactly what I think it is. Too small, too blocky, too pixelated. That's okay, looks like this summer was really going to take a shot at the ol' wallet..... but now not so much. -
Moc builders vs Collectors, Lego civil war!
nerdsforprez replied to PaddyBricksplitter's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Devil's advocate here.....isn't there beauty in rarity? The argument above is akin to saying that baseball cards were made to be traded, touched, etc., coins made to be spent, stamps made to ship letters and materials. However, I don't think there are many who would say that just because they were created for those certain intentions, they HAVE to be used that way. Isn't the mere fact that they AREN'T being used for what they were created for a form of creativeness in and of itself? Isn't the fact that others are clamoring "You can't or shouldn't be doing that ! " a form of restriction? If your argument is built on stating that LEGO is for creating and should not be restricted by staying in a box by stating that that is a form of restriction..... -

I cannot officially create a poll b/c I have less than 500 posts, but if an admin feel so inclined this one might be a fun one. I saw this comic the other day and thought that I would just share. lol.... I liked this. We as LEGO fans are likely all very passionate about our hobby. But, not sure that categorizes us ALL as geeks. I am not sure what I am, but as with all scales like this, there is some error. I'm gonna go ahead with nerd (my username, after all... is nerds.. for... prez (president). Although involved in academia in the past (practicing doctor now), I think that ship has sailed, so not really sure if geek applies as much as my passion for my hobbies. I have to admit, I was not aware of the distinction between a nerd, geek and dork until now, and other than IMO it being funny, don't really care about the distinction, so..... I don't think dork really applies either (my wife would disagree. She would think that I am all three). Therefore.... I surmise (see that academic term there... ) that I am a nerd. I think nerds rock....... and if one were to run for president of the world I would vote for him/her. One that is passionate for his/her hobbies has to have a passion for life... right? Which are you? Nerd? Geek? Dork? All of the above? Again.... if someone wants to make this into a poll I think it might be fun.

Lamborghini Veneno Roadster LP750-4
nerdsforprez replied to Firas Abu-Jaber's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This very likely will be moved to another area. Not really a Technic model.... more a Creator or LEGO Special Licenses theme. However, I will say that I have followed this guy's work on MOCpages..... and he is awesome. His cars are among some of the best Creator models I have seen. I am going to go ahead and vote for his creation... but like I said, perhaps this post is better elsewhere..... Btw......nearly everyone is on BL. On their forum there is a place to post information regarding MOCs. I think that would be a great way to get your models more attention. If you are into investing into sets, brickpicker.com is also another place. Although these two sites are primarily for selling and buying LEGO, there is strong support for MOCing.- 21 replies

Just out of curiosity......I think it would be interesting to see how many people have actually remembered to send an email everyday. So far we are 22 days into June, and I must admit that I have missed 4 days. Bummer.... but not too bad. What are your numbers? How many days have you missed? Anyone sent an email everyday so far??

...Or it could cost nothing. Funny, your pic is almost the exact same angle and positioning of a photo that I took with my model of the Liebherr 1500.8.1. I added the text but try to see this pic without the text. Really really similar to your shot. All I did was download GIMP, fuzzy selected the image and did a white background change. cleaned up the parts that were not selected and aside from the text...voila! Done! Cost to do all this.....0$ USD. If you convert this to euros.... it is still 0$ -
Wouldn't make a better MOC of course but would aid in the PRESENTATION of the MOC......

... speaking of charcoal color.... although technically NOT charcoal, but a somewhat similar color, I just love the large panels in flat silver. If TLG already is making some Technic elements in this color, why can't they make a whole set in this color. I would love to see a new supercar in black and flat silver......(sorry for the digression but I wanted to point this out and didn't think it deserved a whole new thread)https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=64392
